I'm working on a couple of Chimeras and have noticed an issue - there doesn't seem to be a decent place to mount smoke launchers.

I can mount them under the lower front glacis and it looks only a bit janky, but erywhere else seems to either point them in a poor direction, or prevent the turret from rotating.

Older edition ones mounted pretty clearly above the hull weapon, but the current ones want to mount at an angle - which points them directly at said weapon. I suppose I could justify that by saying to myself that they lift forwards before firing - so that the smoke projects away from the vehicle - but it still visually looks a bit weird.

How have you all mounted your smoke launchers to Chimeras?

So somehow I stared at that model last night and didn't even notice the smoke launcher. Dang.

That said, that'll give you terrible coverage :p

Why not trim down the launchers or add plasticard wedges till it mounts at your preferred angle?

You could also try taking the Chimera back to its roots; slice the tubes off and attach them directly to the turret

I had thought about that, but discarded the idea for some reason. Now that you mention it, I could probably make it work.

(Funny you link a BMP-2 - I am actively going for a quasi-soviet style for a lot of what I'm doing in this army!)

If you want it to look a little more like a BMP, look up the swingback, bungaroo, mid-mount concept, where you chop a little off the rear section of the top plate and slid the turret mount further back onto the hull so it sits more in the middle.

I have! It's a pretty sweet conversion that I may undertake at some point in the future. I'd also thought about using it was a DIY homebrew unit that bridges the gap between Chimera and the Russ in some fashion.

(If only regular Chimeras could have Autocannon, we could get some BMP-1 / BMP-3 action going!)

Blood and Skull Industries on eBay does a full kit to convert your Chimera to a more - rear turret configuration. Strap a hunter killer missile to the barrel of your gun while you're at it.

Thank you for cluing me into those guys - they have a few very interesting kits besides! It's a cool take on the Chimera, to say the least.

They're top notch stuff. I use them in a lot of my tank conversions.

I'll vouch for Blood and Skulls as well, both as a buyer and as a sub-designer for him.

The FW Index has the rules for a Chimera that can get an Autocannon - they forgot it in the original writing, but the FAQ includes the autocannon option.

Make a BMP-3 look with the Autocannon and then a Coax mounted heavy stubber.

EDIT - damnit, now I want to do that.

The one in FW's IA isn't <Regiment> though :( It's a DKOK thing. Where's the FAQ that adds it for the regular Chimera, though?

Well, hell. I wish I'd known that before I placed my last order with FW :p

I had planned to use a Gryphonne (kitbash the twin heavy bolter turret myself because FW no longer has it) for some kind of assault infantry force (vets probably). Now it's even more appealing!
