Hello all,

So after being out of the game since beginning of 6th, I have jumped back into the hobby. Having owned and played essentially every faction (aside from Eldar and Sisters) back in 5th, I came back to the army I enjoyed the most; Chaos.

This time I decided I'd start a P&M blog here so others can share ideas while I post progress. I'll be doing a lot of converting with these armies in the future once I get some green stuff and more bitz as currently all I have is leftovers from a box of Plaguemarines... lol.

First up, a full starter set, a box of plague marines, and the small "half" starter set; this totals 2 drones, a plaguecaster, blightbringer, one lord of contagion (second will be a termi sorcerer eventually), 30 poxwalkers, and 20 plaguemarines. I converted one blightlauncher, so I have 3 plasma, 1 melta, and 2 blightlaunchers. I also made two powerfist champions and one flail user.

Thanks! I forgot how much fun the building and modeling portion was I do like the easy build models from the starter, except that they gave them crappy options on their loadouts (no double knives or axes). I also was sad to see the PM kit only has 1 of each special weapon in the kit, and only a single bubonic axe. However, smashing the kit with the easy build models enabled me to make a good range of builds to set up my PM squads. Pretty happy so far! We'll see what X-mas brings to the fold of nurgle

Update #1, Part 1:

Worked on this gem for 3 days now, love how he turned out. Nurgle terminator sorcerer w/ Force Staff and Comb-Bolter. Name undecided. I did a lot of modifying, cutting, and a bit of GS work (I'm still new to it).

Update #1, Post 2:

I'm still waiting on bases to finish them, but I finished building my Blightlord Terminators; I LOVE these models. Didn't really do much GS work on them, however, I did magnetize 3 to give me arm options. I messed up and one term was magnetized the wrong way, so one term has two options, while the other two share the other four arm options. Oh well. Also included a pic of how I "converted" my own combi-plasmas using the plasma pistols from the Khorne Berzerkers kit. They look ok to me, nothing spectacular.

Update #1, post 3:

Last post, started work on converting a Typhus from my second LoC. I'm extremely excited with my GS work so far, the mushrooms were a beast to form! You can tell I worked on him after the Sorcerer from earlier pictures.

I did make a unit of Berzerkers with a Lord, which I'll share next update. However, I need to convert these cultists I bought in bulk to have autoguns (or something I can say is "counts as").... unless CCW/Pistol wouldn't be a bad option?

Update #2 Post 1: Converted cultists! Because I traded for 40, and 19 came without autoguns, I utilized bolters to convert 8, IG guns to convert another 8, did some GS modeling for the Death Guard champ (I call him megaman), and modified a few with double pistols to be "counts as" autoguns.

Update #3, Post 2: Typhus is complete! I think he turned out really well, sorry for the poor photos. This is also my Chaos Lord of Khorne, he uses a converted Blight Axe as his power axe (I think it looks like a huge butchers cleaver). Typhus is converted from a LoC w/ bits from a second LoC and PM kit, Chaos Lord is a Khorne Berzerker with PM bits.

Update #3, Post 3: Plagueburst Crawlers!!!

Both of these I converted heavily, the large smooth (and small smooth) orbs on the conversions will be eyeballs eventually once painted. They are both grotesque, super nurgly, and I love it! Both have magnetized sponsons for weapon changes, I did not magnetize the middle gun because I don't think that option will ever be changed... lol

Please note, this is the first time I've utilized GS so much on models, so some of the work is rudimentary and not that impressive But I like it!

I really like how Typhus and the Khorne Lord have turned out, some nice attention to detail on both.

Also, I'm always envious of people who have a natural aptitude for GS work. I try, but can never get the detail in it I want. Smooth cables is about all I can muster! I think your 'mouth barrel' crawler is looking especially good.

Are you going for classic Nurgle green or something else for the paint scheme?

Hey there just noticed I had a comment! Sorry for the long response time I'm actually thinking of going with some sort of grey-color scheme; the theme of the army is moving more toward flies, maggots, and creepy bugs. Things dealing with death. I was thinking Bone White originally, but now I'm unsure!

Hello all,

Sorry for the long break in updates! Lots of new models, lots of work! Still haven't started any painting yet though, however I did pick up some paints finally. Still trying to finalize a paint scheme for the actual armor and things, though.

That said, heres my Lord of Flies, a Demon Prince w/ Wings and talons
As a complementary model to the Mother of Maggots, the Lord of Flies is its body guard; armed with long, razor sharp talons, and a long probiscus it uses to inject new poxes into its victims (or sucking their innards).... pics below!

Models used: flying hive tyrant legs, drone bitzm nurglings from nurgling bases, some rocks from GF9, lots of GS.

Second model up is my Mother of Maggots, another DP w/ wings and Talons. Together, these form the spearhead of my Nurgle and DG forces!

Inspired by some Drone models I acquired, I figured I'd make my own themed Demon Princes... I thought of s disgusting slug monster that gave birth to giant maggots attended by nurglings. The results are below!

Parts used: parts from 2 different drones, nurglings from nurgling bases, lots and lots of green stuff.

I also created two Foul Blightspawn from some Plague Marines, did some chop shopping and used a lot of my random PB bitz... I think they look awesome!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Another update following quickly behind my last.

The last two days I spent building some Nurgling bases, a Gnarlmaw my wife bought me, and some objective markers.

First up, objective markers:

This is a Death Guard weapons cache; just a few weapons in a holding cell, plus a backpack and 'nades. Nothing too crazy

This objective made me realize just how small a 40mm base really is, LOL! This is a still alive Plague Marine, hes got corrosive ooze and tendrils crawling from his corpse. Being at the front lines he has valuable intel that the Death Guard could use... or maybe just a corrupted gene seed.

These are my other four objective markers; Nurglings guarding an ancient Nurgle tome, a Death Guard banner with some severed heads scattered about, a barrel of toxins that the Death Guards plague surgeons and Blightspawns could use, and lastly (my favorite) a small warp portal with a plaguebearer crawling out.

Heres my Gnarlmaw. You will notice I placed less bells off the branches (I love them, wanted to keep the bits). As well, I kept the top tendrils for my portal objective idea. I placed some extra nurglings all around, but also felt that something had to FEED the Gnarlmaw; maybe the nurglings bring back dead marines for it to feed on? So I added two "absorbed" marines to the side, slowly being integrated into the Gnarlmaw.

And last, but not least, some nurgling bases! I'm going for 6 total, but I was short one 40mm base lol. Nothing special about these, just added a few missing arms from stretching them onto multiple bases.

C&C is always welcome!

Trying to come up with a paint scheme is becoming pretty hard...

Being The Host of Flies, I feel like dark grey armor would be extremely suiting; kinda wish there was a grey-green. What are others thoughts?

You have really gone mad with green stuff. I like it. Maybe invest in some silicon sculpting tools?

That said you can do medical scrubs green.

PANDA!

What up buddy! Silicon tools... I think I saw people using those in videos. Thats an excellent idea, I've been using hair combs, butter kives, tooth picks, pen caps and plastic paint mixers for my trextures and flattening. I like the results, but maybe silicon tools are a better solution?

They wont stick too the green stuff as an advantage. I often use olive oil as a coat on green stuff to prevent sticking for the tools you described. When cured i was the model with dish soap.

I said it eariler in an edit. But maybe medical green would be good color choice?

I'm definitely gonna get some tools, I've been using just water with great results with non-stickage, I know oils better though. Actually someone messaged me a picture of the "Dusk Raiders" (https://terraluna5.deviantart.com/art/Dusk-Raider-505349982) and that scheme is very much like what I was thinking. Might swap the red for green, though. Guess this was the paint scheme "before death guard"?

Looking sick there nurgle man. Bulking pox walkers can be soul crushing at times.

Seems like you are using washes over white technique?

Yessir! I've landed on three skin shades: Agrax Earthshade (dark brown guys), Seraphim Sepia, and Camoshade. I primed everyone with Krylon Paint + Primer matte white, then did two coats of their skin color. The minor tidbits are all painted red (cloth) and grey (belts and "leather"). metal was all done in leadbelcher, horns in rotting flesh then washed with earthshade. Lastly, I highlight the teeth and hit them with nuln oil, wash any clothing with earthshade, and hit the weapons with some Nuln Oil. This helps me to differentiate squads by skincolor if I want to, but also ties the Poxwalkers together with my Dark Grey paint scheme I'll be doing. I did minimal highlighting because I feel like a Nurgle army would be very grimey, and not very clean.

I also just got in some Tamiyra Red and Green Gloss, I tested it on one walker and it makes his bloody guts look much more convincing! I'll try and get some better pics, but I appreciate the support I'm gonna hit up the game store here this week and pick up a lot more paints, plus one of the base texture paints (doing nurgley swamp bases from the Citadel Paint app) to get these guys finished!

The texture paints are a good choice. They work well!

I did all the admech in them... sure i have photos in my gallery. That said I like your method. Would love to see the blood effect. I find GW's blood effect good - pretty sure its a red and gloss mixture.

Keep the momentum going for me.

Thanks bud! I'll get some better pics here in a few weeks, parents are in town next week from Albuquerque, not much painting gonna happen for a while. I did batch paint the skin colors and bone bits on my remaining walkers, and started on the red cloth (got 23 done, 13 to go!)

These are some amazing Nurgles! I just started collecting them a few months ago but have yet to even assemble them. You are so incredibly skilled with GS and those Poxwalkers are looking awesome. Loving the skintone!

I want to dig into my Nugles so bad but I already have so many things built and primed it would be such a naughty thing to do to start more projects before finishing what's already started...

I appreciate it! I returned to the game and instantly chose Death Guard; I've always been a huge chaos fan back in 5th, and having a reason to collect my favorite faction (Demons) and some cool Marines was enough for me! But yes, back in my 5th ed days I had 4 armies that were completely unpainted, and eventually (over time) I finished painting 3 of 4 of the armies. However, it wasn't to a very good standard I feel, so I'm trying to take a bit more time with these models.

I feel you though... After these 50 poxwalkers, I have 40 cultists to paint... then I need to work on my tanks/HQ's for my primary list, plus 30 Plaguebearers and their HQ's, and some nurglings. Its daunting, so I definitely feel for people with (even more) than me! However, as many have said, it feels good to finish painting.

I just need to not go ADD and start painting other models though.... it gets kind of boring painting the same models over and over, but once you have your method down, it seems to go much faster. I actually enjoy batch painting because its a bit mindless after a bit, lol!

Thanks for visiting!
