Hey folks,

I don’t understand how dark elf bolt throwers take damage.

Does the war machine damage until it’s at one, or zero, then I start applying wounds to my crew? Does my opponent pick who he’s targeting?

Can anyone walk me through a phase attacking a bolt thrower?

Much appreciated.

From the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Main Rules FAQ:

Q: With war machines and crew, how should you allocate wounds?

A: A war machine and its crew are two separate units, and so must be targeted separately.

Thanks.

Why do they bother giving the bolt thrower wounds, when all you need to do is target the crew?

It would be fairly weird having a unit with no wounds at all. Plus when AoS came out Wounds were one of the frequently suggested ways of balancing so GW may have been trying to think of that.

because sometimes its easier to target a bolt thrower and effects that target all units within x"

Crew gets +1 Save when in 1" of the war machine. When buffed with Mystical Shield, they have +2 Save. Depending on the war machine and crew, it varies what is the softer target.
