Hi
Due to the aniversary of the end of the great war I have been looking for a good WW1 skirmish game but as I have not much experience with historical wargaming I am a bit at a loss.

My intention is to host an event in november (on armistice) for my club and have a great day with a fun game.

I am looking for a skirmish game (max 30 models/side) , because I want to give everybody the chance to pick it up (financialy) and get it painted by november. Also I am looking for a rules set that has not to big of a learning curve as knowing my club they will probably play the game for max a few months and then move on.

Any advice or experiences you guys can share with me?

I am interested in this as well. I think it could be very neat. I will see if I can find anything that could work for it.

I will post rules sets that I come by:
GOODBYEEEEEE
Looks simple enough and pretty straight forward but not sure on what scale it is intended. Does anyone know?

I saw to the last man, but cannot find the rules anywhere, and to buy a 65$ book seems a bit much for a game I am not sure I am gonna be wanting to play. Anyone got experience with it?

Maybe Osprey's "A World Aflame". It's set during the interwar period, but the equipment would be valid for WWI. Small companies (30-40 models in the sample lists), and 64 pages, of which about 30 are the actual rules. No set scale, but from the ranges listed, seems to favor 28mm or similar scale.

I would go for toofatlardies rules, either Through the Mud and Blood or If the Lord Spares Us depending on which area you are fighting.

I suggest through the mud and the blood ruleset, i've just run a scenario concerning the battle of Cambrai and it works well and it's pretty straightforward. Be aware that it's card riven: you casually draw cards that portrait the leaders (from squad leader onward) and single support weapons (machineguns exc), the drawing give the prder of activation of the single units/pieces.

Chain of Command from TooFatLardies is great for skirmish games. I've used it for Russian Civil War encounters.

We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

I had a go at a few sets of rules for WWI and RCW but none of them really offered what I wanted so I ended up writing my own.

The plan is to use it for any WWI and inter war battles. It should be usable for Russo Japanese war, through WWI and RCW up to SCW and maybe light skirmish at Khalkhin Gol (at a push).

I don’t know if it’s what you’re looking for per se, but there is one ww1 set that uses the command and colors system called The Great War. I’ve never played it myself, but the underlying system is solid from playing similar games. It has a very decent review score on BoardGameGeek.

It’s also entirely possible to scale it to other minis. A great example of the system is battlelore from FFG and we use Warhammer minis just fine with it, and 3d buildings, etc...

Might be worth checking out.

Well, if you want aircombat, you have Wings of Glory.
no limits to how many players that can play, and you learn the arcade rules within 1 hour.

models are a bit on the expensive side but that is cuz they come prepainted.
