I started collecting Custodes during COVID so I'm fairly new to it, biggest lesson I learned early on was you have a very CP hungry army so choose with care how you want to spend your CP.

209 pages is a lot to sift through. Is there a summary of any of the rumored changes?

Theres currently no really credible rumors yet. I do know we are supposed to be getting a Talons of the Emperor Codex, so expect Sisters of Silence completely rolled into the next book.

I also except we will loose the +1 invun as our trait, though we should be getting something pretty nice to compensate.

Again regarding the rumor of losing the invuln, it could just be that Aegis of the Emperor will be a flat 4++ in the new codex. Otherwise we truly need something very nice to compensate. Just having a 5++ won't be enough even if we get another wound.

honestly the 5++ isnt bad if we get another wound. In cover your still getting a 4+ armor against ap-3.

It really hurts us more in melee, where the extra wound does alot.

And really only marines are getting a decent amount of Ap-3 in melee, and marines in general arent that good against custodes.

Thanks! I'm curious to see what happens. I play custodes right now and I can't imagine them being effective without the +1 invul unless other things change, such as lower costs, more wounds, or I guess a base 4+ invul.

I'll be excited to see what changes come.

I think you need to look at 9th. GW really hasn't done anything to radically alter any faction. They have messed around with weapon profiles, or stats, but that's about it. If we do see a nerf, I see us losing something related to our FW stuff, like getting rid of the double shoot Strat, or the + to attacks for dead members of a unit. We have a lot of fat to trim. I don't see them gutting the "nigh unkillable" status of Custodes.

Hey guys! It has been a while since I posted here. Glad to see people I recognise still active

I'm headed to the goonhammer open which is in 2 weeks and the list deadline is tonight. I wanted to see what you guys thought of my list and whether I have better options.

The list is:
GHO CUSTODES
Adeptus Custodes Shadowkeepers Battalion Detachment (1998, -3CP)
HQ (368, -1CP)
Captain-General Trajann Valoris (190)
Shield-Captain on Jetbike: Warlord, Superior creation, Auric Aquilas, Captain-Commander: Unstoppable Destroyer (-1CP), Misericordia, Salvo Launcher (178)
Troops (530)
4x Sagittarum Custodians, 4x misericordia (212)
3x Sagittarum Custodians, 3x misericordia (159)
3x Sagittarum Custodians, 3x misericordia (159)
Fast Attack (510)
3x Vertus Praetors, Salvo Launchers (255)
3x Vertus Praetors, Salvo Launchers (255)
Heavy Support (590, -2CP)
Telemon Heavy Dreadnought: Arachnus Storm Cannon, Telemon Caestus, Eternal Penitent (-1CP) (295)
Telemon Heavy Dreadnought: Arachnus Storm Cannon, Telemon Caestus, Eternal Penitent (-1CP) (295)

This is what I've eventually settled on. I'm worried about being stretched too thin and being inflexible, due to my small number of units. The options and questions I have:
Is a culexus worth fitting in?
Are 2x3 bikes fine?
Should I be taking any hurricanes?
Is unstoppable destroyer worth it over Indomitable constitution?
Should I consider a pivot towards a vexilla?
Should I buy a squad of sisters of silence to take the place of the 10th sagittarum as chaff? ie are they worth it just as a squad of 5
If I owned Venatari I would definitely include them but unfortunately I don't.

Thanks for any help. Super excited for our codex which is evidently on the horizon

Why in Trajaan's name are you going with Salvo launchers over HBs? Are you worried your Telemon's won't be able to take down T8 Threats? There is literally no reason to take Salvo unless you are making your bikes do the heavy lifting of anti-tank.

Anyone worried about the new Tyranid released rules? The Hive Fleet Leviathan characters have Relic bone swords that straight up ignore invulns. A Hive Tyrant can get 5-6 attacks at S6 AP2 D3 damage. That's gonna put a hurt on our big toys.

What does a hive fleet leviathan usually cost in points? I don't play nids, but this seems like it could gety scary. It's a combination of our two biggest problems. Hordes and scary ignore invuln issues.

Can a hive tyrant get character protection? Cause if not then I believe it's not that bad. You just have to focus the thing down with shooting and avoid melee as much as possible.

But even if you have to fight such a hive tyrant, if he runs into a shield squad I don't think he can take them consistently when you have transhuman and/or auspice ready.

I think Hive Guard can tank hits for a Tyrant, so that will be annoying.

Tyrant Guard, not Hive Guard. Hive Guard are the shooty bugs, Tyrant Guard are the melee bodyguards.

I mean at AP-2 that relic is pretty much wasted against custodes.
You go to a 4+ armour save... and ignore the invuln of a 4+. So it does exactly nothing. It really is only useful for things where the difference between invul and armour save is more than 2.
Which is, at least for now, only our shield guard. And I'd expect that to be gone sooner than later.
So at first glance I was pretty miffed too and now I just, basically, cackle if he chooses that relic because it is essentially wasted

Shield Guard are 1+/3++, so it actually doesn’t matter on them either.

true. And its even worse if you get into heavy cover. Then it does even less.

So rejoice if a tyranid player brings that, cause he just nerfed himself and didnt take some relic that actually DOES anything

I know we'll get our codex upgrade soon, but give me permission to vent just a second about how the new helbrecht is so unbelievable more deadly and flexible in melee than current Trajann Valoris, while also being cheaper. I really hope they make Trajann a powerhouse in the new Codex like he deserves to be.

What does Helbrecht do? I've not seen his leaks.

I'm not sure if characters get the extra attack from shock assault. If helbrecht does get the attack from shock assault, he hits either with 14 attacks at S6, AP-3, Dmg1 or 7 attacks with S8, AP-3, flat 3dmg.

Oh, and he gives +1S to core units and has a combi melta, that is always in melta range.

Pretty much every codex coming out these days has units that outclass our own for less points. We'll just have to hope our codex levels the playing field.

I am still in the GW passes us over camp. We aren't exactly desperate, like Eldar, Knights, or IG. We still to this date, have top finishing lists. I am more worried about GW over buffing us.

Thats not how that works the codecies take about half a year from start to release. And knights seem to be good again take a look at last big US tournaments. on 40kstats.com kinghts have 52% win rate and custodes have 48%

Not sure if joking or not. You are seriously ranking Knights better than Custodes? Where are you getting your numbers? Custodes have been a top performer since launch, and Knights have been at the dead bottom. They literally cannot win the objective game that 9th has become.

Have you been watching the competitive scene? At all? Knights (sometimes Freeblades, or Raven) have had a serious resurgence of late.

I'm thinking that with the IG getting buffs in the new campaign book that Custodes being the Late 2021 Imperial codex are pretty good. Keeping fingers crossed.

I really think if Conscripts are getting Transhuman, we might be getting some insane buffs.

IF they do, and Custodes don't, people in the rules writing department need to be hit over the head with a tack hammer.

How many wounds should a basic custodian have? Because 3 is silly compared to space marines and whatnot, and custodes shouldn't be getting one-shotted by anything but the most powerful of weapons.
5 doesn't seem too unreasonable... Decent chance to survive most powerful weapons but can still be dropped by a lascannon or melta.

I bet it's gonna be 4 wounds for a standard Custodes. But, honestly, I could see them keeping us at 3 also...

(remember: the name of the game in 9th is MORE KILLY, not, you know, more surviving..ee.)

The leaks that have been mostly correct show us getting +1 wound to all units across the board. I might also see this as a bad thing, as it will likely lead to a price increase. Both points and dollars.

I don't even care about wounds, I just want fixed damage and melee weapon profiles.
