Excommunicatus wrote:It's a great base, but does it not seem a bit overly 'busy' to you? Perhaps this is nothing more than a reflection on my own plans (and personality) but it would drive me mad to have several bases with (what looks like) Earthshaker Cannon bits and heavy industrial debris, unless the rest of my board looked like that too. Hello again Excommunicatus and thank you for your comments! Actually the thought that terrain was very detailed, almost too detailed for a No Man's Land, did occur to me, but then again more resin = more weight, and ultimately i was looking for a Flying Stand with the most stability. I had been converting a standard GW plain black plastic 120mm Oval Flying Base to a WW1 Trench theme using polystyrene foam, but it is still a work in progress. Also my flying base just did not have the mass to keep a Flyer from toppling over unexpectedly ... I did come across a couple of acrylic plastic " Hero Holder" 120mm Oval Flying Bases made by Mechanical Warhorse; not only was it a stable base having "tabs" that slot into the Base, but also they have cutouts for two 12mm dice! I use the same case for one of my Valkyries. One challenge has been the base, you really have to have a simple base to fit properly. Have you figured out a way to fit your custom base?
Cheers,

You can easily store the flyer base and stem if they are not glued together; I would suggest pinning the base and stem and tack glue/glue dots the parts when in use, then when putting away, you can store the base on the backside of the Valkyrie under the tail, the stem to where it normally stores in that KR tray.

Howdy Big Mac, thank you for coming in to check out this Blog and also thanks for the suggestions!
I was planning to pack two Flying Base facing back-to-back in one of the Vehicle storage locations.
Ultimately i plan to have a total of five ( 5 ) Flyers; two Valkyrie assault carriers, two Vulture gunships, and a Vendetta gunship.
The two Valkyrie assault carriers will use the Mechanical Warhorse "Hero Holder" bases.
The two Vulture gunships will use Kromlech resin bases as I have ordered their "Concrete Slabs" 120 mm Flyer Base.
The Vendetta gunship will use the Models & Minis 120 mm "Trench Base".

Happy February 2nd of 2019, with the Lunar New Year just three days away on the 5th!
After a long holiday hiatus (Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons) I got back to work on the addition of another cast resin 120mm Flyer Base from Kromlech
Photo from Kromlech website: https://bitsofwar.com/home/766-concrete-slabs-bases-oval-120mm-flyer.html#idTab1

This set contains 1 oval 120mm scenic base for flyers.
Concrete Slabs theme.
Our products are intended for experienced modellers and may require trimming, bending and fitting.
All parts are cast from highest quality resin. Supplied unpainted. May require assembly.
We recommend washing all parts before assembly (tap water with mild detergent)

Private Benjamin,
Are you attaching the clear plastic stand to your aircraft or keeping them removable as well?
I see the appeal of the flying stand plastic not having to be secured to the base for storage and transport...but I can see accidents of the table top as the plastic stand comes out of the base when lifted.
Cheers,
CB

Hello again Captain Brown! Thank you for checking in and the comments; I do have a pin vice and also a Dremel for installing pins in the future, as I agree with your consideration about gaming.
I took some photos of the two Vulture gunships with the Kromlech resin flyer bases, and while they are definitely sturdy enough for display, i would be hesitant to deploy them as such for game play.

Today we are documenting the application of brown colours to the Concrete Slabs resin 120mm Flyer Base.
First, the Army Painter Regimental Brush was used to apply a Basecoat GW Rhinox Hide to dirt / soil areas of the base :
After allowing to dry, this was followed by a Layer of GW Vermin Brown :

Before I started working on the Concrete Slabs that this cast resin 120mm oval flyer base is named after, I thinned down GW Chaos Black to give a sense of shadow and grimdark again :
After allowing to dry completely, this was followed by a Drybrush of two colours; first GW Administratum Grey then secondly with GW Space Wolves Grey .
Metal areas were Drybrushed with GW Chainmail.

Hello again Meer_Cat! Thank you for checking out this Blog yet again, and also for the words of encouragement!
I have to admit that the colours may be too mud churned "earth tone" for the ash wastes of Armageddon, however shading and details are coming up...
Metal and concrete gets a Wash of Wash of GW Nuln Oil. Cables are Basecoat painted with GW Skull White :
Cables are painted with GW Regal Blue, Green Ink & Snot Green, Mephiston Red, Bad Moon Yellow and Chaos Black.

Hello again kestral! Thank you for checking in again, and also for the kind comments!
I'm trying to document the process as I was not as careful with the first Kromlech 120 mm flyer base.
A custom mixed Wash of GW Agrax Earthshade, Vallejo Brown & Black Shade is applied :
Highlights applied and a second custom mix Wash is applied on specific areas to enhance shadow. Edge of the base painted GW Chaos Black :
