Is it that time again?

YES!

Yes it is!

Time for a new thread of Reapery goodness!

If you're just tuning in, Reaper is just my favorite mini company out there. There are companies out there making better models, there are companies making more models, but Reaper alone hits that sweet spot of diversity, quantity, quality and madness that makes each month's releases just a lot of fun.

Plus they put out tons of stuff in God's Own Casting Medium, METAL

What will we get this week, Were Sharks? Dancing Girls? Super villains? Who knows!

So let's dig in...

http://www.reapermini.com/

First off we have Kelainen Darkmantle, Evil Wizard. Honestly when your last name is Darkmantle your family doesn't have all that many career options do they. Pretty much Evil Wizard, Necromancer, maybe Vampire. That's about covers it. What I like about him is as the heroes move in they probably have put up an Anti-Magic Sphere or Protection From Evil 10' Radius, but there's not way they'd be ready for Kelainen Darkmantle, Evil Wizard to hit them with a molatov cocktail! Another sign of just how clever Kelainen Darkmantle, Evil Wizard is!

2 city guards, nice and beefy, a decent set. My first thought was how they'd work as Custodes with a head swap.

A goblin boss and some henchgoblins. Another nice set, but I might get them in bones given the ever-rising price of METAL

Finally a very useful model that can serve as female vampire, a manananggal or even a penanggalan (during daylight hours of course).

DM - You see an attractive pale woman in skimpy clothes hanging out in the graveyard.
Player - Nothing suspicious about that, I ignore her.

Over on the Bones side of house there's some pretty cool stuff too.

Gremlins and Kobolds, not super detailed but nice and cheap for hoards.

Greater and lesser Stitch Golems for your Nightmare Before Christmas campaign.

A...

A...

(oh my gawd)

A WERE ARMADILLO!

Just the thing for... um... darn, I'm out. I got nothing.

Death Star Lilies, which are just the thing to dress up a small moon or space station table but seem to be just begging for a trademark suit.

Not entirely sure what this. Either a dragon plant or some finecast left out in the sun too long.

Did you ever do a game where the heroes were trying to infiltrate the Fire Giant castle but got caught and thrown in the dungeon but then you had to stop the game when you realized you didn't have a Fire Giant Jailer model for the next scene? Well that won't happen again!

I got this dude from the Kickstarter and he's just awesome.

Got two of these guys, because damn. Awesome.

Plus you never know when the players will cast two Monster Summoning VIIs in the same battle. Gotta be ready.

And finally, a brain. IN A JAR!

Such a great model. It can be a mad scientist who put his own brain in a jar. Or an experimental subject who had his brain put in a jar. Or even um... some sort of brain monster that evolved its own jars?

Anyway pick up a half dozen of them to dress up your Adeptus Mech tables, they're cheap enough!

So it looks like 2018 is off to a strong start! Tune in next time when we might have Were Giraffes and Cyber Pigeons. Because at this point, why not?

Love them all!

Could you use the Brain in a Jar as an AM Princeps, maybe? One who just didn't know when to give up and call it a day?

Love it all, but in a scale of 1 to 10, that brain in a jar is absolutely AWESOME. On the practical side of things, those 2 City Guards look fantastic. I guess my Biggs and Wedge duo could finally have their own miniaturas.

Happy 2018!

Reaper's doing a year-long promotion again! Spend $40 and get a miniature-of-the-month from their Dungeon "every old license are new sculpts again" Dwellers miniature line.

Info about the old one here: http://ddwzrd.com/

Anyone remember these? And are willing to admit it?

Love the brain in the jar, it's amazing that hasn't been done before. It really does have that many uses!

Could see that Weremadillo being quite cool for Blood Bowl Necromantic teams, in place of the werewolf.

Love it - thanks for doing this. But is the brain in a jar to scale? Or is it some kind of GIANT BRAIN? I'm getting those guards in the kickstarter, so I'm psyched I can use them as Custodes 'cause I hear they're da bomb. I like the stitch golumns and the Gremlins as "Generally Useful things that you might need some time" or GUTTYMINSTs". I have alot of GUTTYMINSTs but would be open to more.

A shout out to Robert Crum, I suppose.

Some nice stuff. Brain in a Jar. So much potential. A bit small to be an Elder Brain. A Junior Brain possibly.

Yeah, I like Reaper Bones a lot. I doubt any other company would make stuff like that Werearmadillo or the Space Mouslings.

Brain in a Jar has a lot of potential for support figures. Maybe a Space Marine Cherub for a devastator squad?

And tomorrow, there will be a new Dungeon Dweller being sent with the packages....

Hmmm, I like him, a lot, but he looks more like a Grenadier mini than the old Heritage Dungeon Dwellers.... (Still old school.)

The only Reaper game I have ever played was Warlord. I got the starter set way back in the day with a couple of extra characters. I have to admit it was a little cheesy, but I liked it. Has anyone else played it?

Its the only time I have see a game using Reaper specific minis.

Almost never see Warlord being played - but I see Reaper miniatures being used all the time for RPGs, Mordheim, Frostgrave, and Kings of War.

For the kids games and painting sessions I run, I mostly see Reaper Bones on the table.

Pretty sure they are aiming at the RPG market, and pretty sure they are hitting their target.

No METAL this time around I've afraid but lots of Bones to keep us happy while we wait for more METAL

I must have read Father Dagon's name a hundred times before I realize he wasn't Father Dragon. Well whatever he is he's huge and scary. No idea what I'd use him for but if you ever need a... whatever that is, Reaper has you covered.

For the life of me I cannot remember what a Merrow is, but there's one if you need one.

Whether you're crawling the sewers of Waterdeep or stalking the depths of the Underhive you can never have too many cultists.

Next up is the Dark Young, that doesn't sound too bad, probably some sort of imp or...

Oh sweet Mary and Joseph! What that @#$% is that?

And who brought his little brother?

And the horrors keep rolling along with a certain Public Domain dark god's spawn.

Speaking of whom...

Well here's a handy fellow, but I hear he's always looking to stuff his face...

Oh thank goodness, it's just an animated creature of graveyard earth and tombs. Something nice and normal.

Really says something when that's not even on the top ten scariest things I've seen tonight.

Ah just an animated skeleton, nothing to worry about here.

(pro-tip, unbend the sword before taking pictures for your store)

And that... that's just disturbing.

But y'know, in a sexual kind of way, not a sanity shattering eldrich horror sort of way.

And these dudes are kind of cute.

Not as cute, but decent giants at a good price.

Two graves, that can also serve as ghosts, or golems or just statues. These I can see myself getting.

And a fine objective or bit of terrain.

And there we are, another round of quality Reaper releases. There's a bit more stuff, some wolves, some mouslings and so on, but those are the highlights I think.

Finally they're releasing the Dark Young and the Mi-go. The other monsters and the Giants all look great, except for the Gug. They should have resculpted that before spending thousands on a mold for plastic.

The sexy liche is kind of a head scratcher for me.

There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

That's okay, you can use them in Pathfinder....

My good lady wife had all of my Dark Young, both by Reaper and RAFM, lined up, with wisps of cotton in front of them while she was working on an Eberron adventure for me to play in a few months.... Should I be worried?

The Auld Grump - yeah, I should be worried.

Just pick up the Quickstart and any Cthulhu RPG adventures. The RPG system is dated as simulationist, based on the old RuneQuest RPG, when it should be narrative, like the Gumshoe system. In other words, when I ran CoC, the investigators would have easily died off had I followed the game system, so I made my own version centered around advancing the plot, not recreating combat scenes. https://rpggeek.com/thread/655959/cthulhu-dice-rpg-review

I think (OK I'm sure) the little Ms and Bs are to indicate metal and bones insce you can't always tell with a painted figure.

They used to have little markers in the photos at 10mm intervals but I don't see them in the latest.

It looks like the letters are 5mm tall but that's just a guess.

The Quickstart is a great idea, but I'm uncertain about the other: I have been listening to Seth Skorkowsky' channel and it isn't supposed to have your character constantly dying. Sure, there's a highter than usual attrition, but it shouldn't be so easy. There's also "Pulp Cthulhu" rules to make it more combat heavy too! (more D&D like, less real, so the investigators can actually survive several fights)

There is a Cthulhu sourcebook coming out for the Pathfinder RPG. They have shown pics of the completed book in KS updates, so I would expect its going to ship soon and will be available though regular retail channels shortly after.
