I'm new to this edition of Tyranids, I've not played in over a decade, and I'd like to get back into the game. After my previous thread, I've discussed with people and gotten an idea of a list. This is not a competitive list, nor do I have any idea of what I really want to do other than collect and play with the big 'nids.

I don't know how well any of the details (anything I had a choice in selecting, like alt weapons, powers, etc) will play, and I could use some help in fine tuning. Feel free to suggest model swaps, alt weapons, powers, etc., with the following limitation: I would rather not play with any swarm units.

Thank you in advance.

This edition has become and endless battle with screens. Most if not all armies need something to counter an alpha strike. Although you say it isn't competitive, even casual lists have some form of counter to a unit of 30 bloodletters, for example, dropping down and tying up your entire army. You will need some fodder (gaunts) to surround your big monsters and protect them from that. Virtually all armies now have some form of 1st turn assault potential. Once tied up you're not shooting.

I see. What would you suggest for this list then?

Swarmlord seems out of place in the list. Its very heavy on shooting without much charging forward. Podding in by himself is probably yust gonna get him killed very fast.

Swarms would make your list alot better screening the big stuff but if you don't want these how about warriors they can fill the role while still beign somewhat scary monsters,

I think the intent was to pod the impaler cannon hive guards, not the Swarmlord?

Swarmlord is out of place. I would recommend several squads of termagants to shield you from assault, and possibly something with some volume shooting, like a dakka Carnifex (2x Twin Devourers, 24 strength 6 ap0 1 damage shots)

In truth when you're first getting started, build a list that functions at 500 or 750 points and play some games. Get a feel for what's going right - and wrong - before adapting your collection.

In a general sense, you need ~3000 points to make a good 2000 point list.

You should also have a non-targetable (less than 9 wounds) character providing synapse.

I don't mind warriors. What would you suggest I replace the Swarmlord and transport with?

A Prime, and some Warrior Broods, armed with cannons, and Deathspitters might do the trick.
