Hi guys, i've started my first 40k army, and these are the first guys i paint. I'm not so sure about their highlights, should i try to use some white for the edges? I'm trying to make them look like raven guard or some succesor chapter. Any tips or advice on any kind (not just highlights, the model in general) would be highly appreciated!
Cheers

The models look great, white highlights on the edge might be a little too much.
You’d probably want to look at a grey such as Stormvermin fur, our IV-02 or Steel Grey.

Very nice, though I do think a couple of those marines need a few extra pieces before they're sent into combat.

Utilizing Careful Highlighting

Yeah I would agree with Stormvermin Fur, would make a nice edge highlight.
If you want to get really fancy you could mix it with your base, 50/50, HL with that, then go back over it with just Stormvermin Fur.
Looking good though!

Thanks! i'll look into it. i'm currently using vallejo paint, but i'll try with some paint from GW.
yeah, never bring just your bare fists to a gunfight!
i also was wondering if should give them a coat of nuln oil, to make the highlights transition smoothly, and then paint a very thin highlight with stormvermin Fur. what do you gusy think?
Thanks for the answers!

If GW paint is what you're using then go with Eshin Grey for a subtle but noticeable dark-grey highlight. Works well with Raven Guard themed-armies. You can then take a lighter grey like Dawnstone for any extreme edge highlights if you so desire.
The key with the RG is, in my opinion, that they are very black and muted. I don't believe they suit drastic highlighting, and think they work far better with subtler darker greys. But that's just me!

You want a rusty red basing motif to contrast that dark green

Colors on the opposite side of the color wheel are their direct compliments. When these 2 colors are used they tend to enhance the other color and help them stand out and pop. It's why Dark Angles have red eyes. But Blood Angles have green.
If your marines are wearing a really dark muddy green armor then a brighter rusty red/orange base will help the whole model pop by contrast.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.
