Considering all the other new edition codex have come out well and their armies have done well not only against each other, but also internally with actually giving multiple viable choices I'd say that chances are good that Necrons won't be left in the lurch. Considering that they feature in a boxed set as well, it means that their rules are likely to be very solid.

Key changes to this earlier codex and also the inevitable "oh wait we've tried it and read it and it actually works" element of a new codex release (seriously the pre-release and launch week are often either pure doom and gloom or pure praise) will likely be the better long term goals.

This might well be one reason why GW doesn't like early leaks of information going out

As for the whole redesign - honestly - since none of the other armies were total "re-writes" from the index did anyone seriously expect that GW were going to revamp every single part of the Necrons? Things were changed, things will change; but they weren't going to throw everything out and start fresh (and if they did there'd be people claiming that they weren't the necrons they were originally advertised and bought into and they'd be annoyed with it).

when they can do it to a whole game system(fantasy to aos) they can do it to one 40k army.
if your not doing a complete 180 redesign, dont tell conected people in a turney to say that they will be redesigned!

Maybe they redesigned it, and "new Necrons" sucked so much in playtesting they went back to the previous version...

im really confused as to why they dont think necrons aren't redesigned. We went from having 2 options to getting MW into an army, to having a way to do mortal wounds on nearly every second unit. The level of MW the army can put out now is prodigious. They are not the tough, grindy army they were before in 7th, now they are fast, hit super hard and *some* units can take a hit back.

So, are the rumors on the redesign meaning an entire redesign of the models of Necrons or a redesign of how they are played?

I took it to mean a redesign of how it plays, with the very very slight possibility of new models, but that was pie in the sky.

The reason I ask is that I'm getting pretty close to finishing painting my current Necron army (enough to play at my local game store at least). I'd really rather not have to buy and repaint an entire army again.

Perhaps I'm a minority in this regard, but I tend to think that leaking a codex isn't necessarily a bad thing. FTR, I tend to be a fan of open-source content, information sharing in general, and consistently fall into the camp of "Why should I buy Microsoft Office when OpenOffice does what I need for free?".

Furthermore, the act of putting a premium price on a vital piece of information which also has an intrinsically limited shelf life frustrates me.

However, I also understand that rule designers, artists, and other codex creators need to get paid. There's a complex dichotomy at play for me between my desire to have access to crucial information while also supporting the hobby and those who create it. GW loves to get paid after all.

I HAVE purchased every Data Cards Box for the factions I play and view the cards as valuable since they enhance gameplay, increase efficiency, and are tools that I would have a hard time recreating on my own (being able to track Orders for IG has been fantastic).

An ignorant postulation: maybe there is also an age component as well? I can find all kinds of 40k artwork, fluff, and fiction online to fulfill my background needs. In the past this wouldn't have been possible.

As a millennial in my 20's and I've been accessing digital information via the web since I was in grade school and that drastically influences how I think about this.

In the end, the rules are what matter, so if I can get those easily (or even at a reduced price) I'm interested.

Could someone point me to the source of where they said they would do a redesign?

It was verbally mentioned during an LVO panel. Strangely, I'm 90% certain the context was the fluff, not the rules.

Have we had a codex leaked so fully before? Part of me suspects this was intentional by GW. Like usually their legal team would be all over this.

Well, that seems like something that could be easily misinterpreted...good thing everyone is already set on it being the latter and will burn down the house otherwise.

Adding new fluff is not a redesign, oldcron to newcron is a redesign, so either way if they don't change enough they are damned.

Which would make me wonder how that happened and want to read it, so I'd be happy with that.

on the forum. Obviously

Easy, the necrons realized that being terminator expies is rad as feth, and decided to abandon going back to being weak and inefficient meat sacks.
