I've been discouraged from painting my IG recently because my winter scheme is not coming together like I hoped/planned.

What are people using to create snow covered models? Glue for thick snow? "Snow" particles from GW? Some other white substance? Painting rocks white?

Also, going for a predominately white scheme seems to be turning into a nightmare, so some advice for winter schemes would be nice as well.

My IG are mostly painted in a white/light blue scheme {I can get the exact colors later when the pots are in front of me} but the frustration has me considering a full repaint using darker urban tones.

Thanks in advance for any/all advice and suggestions!

Cheers

I mix Woodland Scenics soft flake snow with about a 1:1 water/PVA mix to make a thick-ish paste. Roughly the consistency of oatmeal/grits. Smear on the base. Then swish the still wet base though more of the snow.

As for winter camo, the only guys I have actually sporting that are my Eldar rangers.

(I need better pics of those guys)
Mostly white/grey/pale blue with some color to keep them interesting and tie them in with the rest of my force.

Hey Nevelon, thanks for the advice! Follow-up Q's: When mixing- how large do you make each batch? If you've tried to make larger batches, is there a point where you find the mixture loses its consistency? Just want an understanding of scale. (Also, ignorant Q: what's PVA?)

PVA is basic white elmers glue.
I start with putting a small blob on my pallet. Then add roughly the same amount of water and mix. Then I add the flock until I get the right consistency. If it gets too thick, I add more glue/water. Volumes are rough, and can vary based on how many guys I'm baseing.

I paint the bases white and glue the tufts and rocks on first.

I use the same system for everything from infantry to flyer bases

I do mostly the same thing. Woodland Scenics+Water+Tacky Glue. I mike it up until it's a thick, almost putty like consistency, and then spread it onto the base. There is no real need to paint white under it or re-dip it into the snow.

Woodland Scenics Flex Paste

Put that down, a thin layer of watered down PVA glue, then flock with your snow flock of choice, job's done.
