Subject: Warpath still active after Da Jump?
|

Battlewagon Driver with Charged Engine

I'm a little late on the party on this FAQ, but I didn't see this addressed directly, so here goes.
Because this
Q: If you use a Stratagem to remove a model from the battlefield and set it up again, does the model retain any persistent effects (for example, a bonus to one of its characteristics as a result of an ability)?
A: No.
does not apply to psychic powers, does Warpath stay active after a Da Jump?
Or does this
Q: If a unit uses a rule that removes them from the battlefield and then sets them up again, such as the Teleport Homer ability or the Gate of Infinity psychic power, does that unit count as having moved for the purposes of moving and firing Heavy weapons?
A: Yes. Treat such units as if they are arriving on the battlefield as reinforcements.
de-activate the buff?
I say no, the buff stays on. #1 above only applies to stratagems, so no effect there. #2 implies that they are coming in from reserves, and have moved, but there is no rule ( AFAIK) that states units coming in from reserves are automatically de-buffed.
Am I missing something?

The buff stays. Like you said, the FAQ only applies when Stratagems remove the unit. A psychic power is not a Stratagem.

You're correct in terms of RAW but I reckon the intent is that the effects would disappear.

If the intent was for the effects to disappear then the rule or FAQ would say so. Saying "You're correct in terms of RAW" as a slur is like saying "Re-rolls before modifiers is correct in terms of RAW but I reckon the intent is that modifiers apply before re-rolls" despite both the rules and FAQ saying otherwise.

It's not a slur, why would you think that? It's an admission that yes, the rules as written are like that, but it's probably not intended to be that limited in scope. Why would you claim that's a personal attack on anyone?

Because he uses RAI as an insult toward others, he assumes any mention of RAW is an insult to him. It makes it difficult to have an honest discussion.

Yea its as Johnny said, trying to have a sensible discussion about rules with bcb is like trying to baptise a cat.
As to my response to bcb? I think the rules writers are human and perhaps male mistakes, particularly on FAQs that are rushed to accommodate post tournament results.
Also bcb I find it bizarre that you have deemed we cannot use a FAQ response regarding one thing to inform another in this instance but you've taken exactly the opposite stance with regards da jump equivalents moving a unit outside of their deployment zone turn 1. Seems like you're inconsistent in your rulings.

What are you talking about? Facebook is not official FAQs. Please don't try and start that discussion here when it has no relevance. I would like to know what you think my opinion on that is though, because I am quite certain I have been consistent in saying that the rules don't allow Da Jump to leave the deployment zone.

It has nothing to do with Facebook and is extremely relevant to this discussion.
Unfortunately, I know your opinion on the matter well since you spend most of your day promoting it on here.
The entire premise for your (wrong) opinion that "the rules don't allow Da Jump to leave the deployment zone" are based on a FAQ response to firing heavy weapons after having an ability such as Da Jump cast on the unit. Which is a response that is entirely unrelated to deployment restrictions. Yet here you take the response regarding Stratagems to mean that they are in relation to *only* Stratagems. You see the double standards there? You see how your actions aren't consistent with the way you interpret the rules?

Where in the name of the Manperor of Mankind did you get that idea? The reason why the Beta rule doesn't allow Da Jump to move a unit outside it's deployment zone is because the beta rule says "any unit that arrives on the battlefield during a player’s first turn must be deployed wholly within the controlling player’s deployment zone". When you use Da Jump, you remove the unit from the battlefield and set it up as Reinforcements. The fact the unit is removed means it must arrive again. It's got nothing to do with FAQs about shooting heavy weapons. To quote another post on the subject: BaconCatBug wrote:Compare the wording of that stratagem to something like Teleport Strike. They are identical. If it applies to one, it applies to the other. You can't even argue "It started on the battlefield" because it literally tells you to remove the unit before setting them up, so both rules have the unit being set up from off the battlefield.
The rules for Da Jump/ GoI type effects are IDENTICAL to that of Teleport Strike and other "Deep Strike" style effects. If the Beta Rule applies to one, it applies to the other two, there is no middle ground.

I agree with you BCB about the Beta rule FAQ thing, you do have a habit of coming across rather permissive in your attempt to explain time to time, it's frustrating because I do also see if you offering genuine advise time to time too.
This might be why people misunderstand your point time to time. Whether you are trying to get them irate on purpose I don;t know. You are just someone on the internet.
IMHO the FAQ affetcs both. Stratagems and Phycic powers, when you come off the table (regardless of the how) you are removed and reset again. Okay there is no direct FAQ but there are multiple FAQ's to take from, one being the FAQ when a unit it removed it loses all effects (good and bad). The other being pg 6 Rulebook faq top right corner, treat such unit as if they have come in as reinforcements.
IMHO it;s clear what GW are telling you, however with situations like this. You have ready the opinion of random people of the internet (myself included), now go away and discuss it with your opponent. If they wish to debate further still then remember, it's a game of toy soldiers just and continue with the game.

The FAQ does no such thing. The FAQ literally says Stratagems, not powers. If they wanted it to affect powers they would have gone with the wording for the "Movement after Deep Strike" FAQ where it said they cannot move "for any reason", which covers all the possibilities. I'm not in the business of trying to make sure people don't get their fee-fees hurt, no do I particularly care if people like me or not, I say the truth as I see it and refuse to sugar coat it because of some societal expectancy of "tact". If your position on a rules issue is so fragile you cannot handle facts and citations then it's not a very good rules argument.

So this claim is even more bizarre and irrelevant. The unit (as the Facebook post reiterates for those struggling) has already arrived on the battlefield. It must have done for you to be casting a psychic power on it. So you have fulfilled this criteria and are allowed to place as per the rules noted on Da Jump. You can't arrive on the battlefield more than once. Once you have arrived, you have arrived.
I'll also need a link to the rule that states: "when you use Da Jump, you remove the unit from the battlefield and set it up as Reinforcements."

Well the RAI, the FAQ seems to point at you cannot sequence your actions in such a way that so you can buff your unit then deep strike by any means.
FAQ is not a rule but the RAI explanation/clarification of a rule without changing it (i.e. TacRes beta rule & sudden death flyer transport). So, when a FAQ is limited to a certain specific example, in this case reployment via stratagem and not specifically psychic powers inclusively, I think it's fair to take a broader implication of it and assume the core of the FAQ is you lose all buffs on a unit when it is redeployed via deep strike mechanism.

Seriously, post where I made this assertion you claim. If I did so then I did so in error and I will correct that. I am pretty sure though every time I've used a tangential FAQ like that I have been clear to point out that you can't technically use it like that. Also, Da Jump LITERALLY tells you to remove the unit from the battlefield. They are no longer on the battlefield. If you place them on the battlefield, they have arrived on the battlefield, because they have gone from not being on the battlefield to on the battlefield. [CITATION NEEDED] An Actual Englishman wrote:I'll also need a link to the rule that states: "when you use Da Jump, you remove the unit from the battlefield and set it up as Reinforcements."
It doesn't need to say that because the BRB Reinforcement rule covers all scenarios when a unit is "set up" mid turn. 1 out of 5, poor attempt at a "gotcha". However you asked for a link, so here you go https://whc-cdn.games-workshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Warhammer-40k-Battle-Primer-English.pdf Page 3, under the sidebar "Reinforcements".

I disagree. It literally says "stratagems", not "anything that causes a model to be removed from the table." That is equivalent to saying that psychic powers cost command points, claiming "anything that removes a model from the table most cost command points!" Because RAI!
You could just as easily claim that shooting removes buffs, because RAI. You could claim "my baneblade is only 10 points" because RAI. None of that is true. A claim of RAI has to be based upon SOMETHING in text, not just unicorns and rainbow thinking.
"Removing from the table" is not a magic phrase that debuffs things. RULES debuff things. And this rule says strategems, not powers.

So a fancy picture made by a random person on facebook? That's not a rules citation. Rulebook page or FAQ page please, otherwise don't waste my time. Here is one for you. This is what the rules are. BRB Page 175 wrote:WARHAMMER 40,000 CODEXES So now you know what a datasheet is and how it works – in conjunction with the core rules that follow (plus your Citadel Miniatures, battlefield, dice and tape measure, of course!), you’ve got everything you need to start playing games of Warhammer 40,000 and dive into epic battle. But where do you find datasheets? Well, when you buy a box of Citadel Miniatures they’ll be in the box with them, and they are also present in codexes. A codex is the ultimate resource for your chosen army (or armies!), containing datasheets for all the miniatures that are part of a particular Faction. But that’s not all – in codexesyou’ll also find army-specific special rules that reflect the character of the army, exciting Warlord Traits, Stratagems, wargear, and even unique relics. Each codex is also filled with a wealth of inspirational background material, organisational information, stunning art and miniatures photography, colour guides and heraldry, all of which provide context for how a Faction works in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Head over to games-workshop.com to find out more.
BRB Page 176 wrote:Warhammer 40,000 puts you in command of a force of mighty warriors and war machines. The core rules on these pages contain everything you need to know in order to use your Citadel Miniatures collection to wage glorious battle across the war-torn galaxy.
The official Errata webpage, found here: https://www.warhammer-community.com/faqs/?orderby=title&order=asc#items-warhammer-40000 Looking for the latest updates to your codex or battletome? Got a question about how something in your army works? Each of these FAQs contains all of the most up-to-date errata and answers you’ll need to make sure that your games run as smoothly as possible, incorporating feedback from you guys and gals out there in the Warhammer community, the playtesters and of course, our studio design team.
If it's not in the Rulebook or FAQs, it doesn't exist for the purposes of what the rules are. And, in my opinion, they don't exist for the purposes of rules discussions. But if I have missed something in those quotes where it says "Facebook posts made by a random GW staffer are also rules", please let me know.

It isn't official. I literally quoted the definition of the rules. The GW Facebook page is no more or less official than my own (non-existent) Facebook page when it comes to what the Rules are. Again I need to make it clear, you're free to make up rules, ignore rules, do whatever you want etc. However, the vast majority of people play by the rules found in the Rulebook and Codexes and my answers are made as such.

It's a post created by the GW team. It is infinitely more official than any interpretation of the rules that you have. Infinitely. They literally create the rules. They're also able to decide at any time that the definition of the rules has changed and now incorporates posts such as that, which is clearly what they've done here.
I'm sorry BCB, it's over. This is as official as you're going to get until the next FAQ. GW have more important things to focus on than appeasing your rules lawyering and obsession with the minutiae.

No, the GW Facebook page does not make the rules, the Rules make the Rules. The GW Facebook page LITERALLY SAYS IT IS NOT RULES. By your logic why bother having rulebooks at all?

Actually that doesn't prove that you can't arrive more than once. You have powers that remove you from the battlefield, then have you set up on the board again, either immediately or later. If you don't arrive on the board again, then you'd still be off the board and not be able to affect anything. They are only saying that any subsequent re-arrivals don't incur the same problems if you started on the board in the first place that you would if you started the game off the board.

GW make the rules. GW Facebook team are an extension of GW. I think you'll find we now have a "living" ruleset (like we've been asking for forever) so the rules will update much quicker and more efficiently than before. I feel like you don't want to let go of the dark ages where we didn't have rules clarifications for years and things would stay broken. We've moved on from that. You can choose to stay in your blissful semi-ignorance, but you are wrong to claim that people who are following the most recent iteration of the rules are "making things up" or "not following the rules properly". The truth of the matter is that your idea of what the rules are is outdated, because you refuse to accept anything as clarification apart from a literal change in the physical rulebook or a FAQ release. Which is bizarre and clearly wrong.

Which is the same thing. OK, you can 'arrive' again (if you want to call it that), but for rules purposes pertaining to reinforcements you do not follow the same rules as if you arrived, because you have already done so.

And yet the GW Facebook team literally say they aren't the rules. Funny that.

Please cite where GW’s Facebook team “literally” says their rules posts are official rules.

Actually that doesn't prove that you can't arrive more than once. You have powers that remove you from the battlefield, then have you set up on the board again, either immediately or later. Actually I do, as that can affect some stratagems and powers that come into play when someone arrives on the board when not coming in from the edge(Auspex for one)

I can't, because it doesn't say that? Did you mean "aren't"?
