Aww, Max is taking Miraya for a midnight stroll in the park where they met.

Those are pretty nice. Though I admit when I first saw the armored valk picture, I thought it was some sort of destroyed objective marker...

You could try this: https://www.smooth-on.com/products/xtc-3d/

I'm not sure how well it'll work on small print but on bigger stuff it does help smooth out some of the larger print lines and I believe it's also sandable.

I have a friend with a DLP printer nearby (an Anycubic Photon, actually) and the only reason I don't is because by now I'm waiting for them to release the following model with improvements, so I will probably just end up using the fdm for what it is supposed to be instead of this ^_^

Interesting, thanks!

...although this gives me pause:

Avoid eye and skin contact. Avoid breathing fumes - use in a well ventilated area. NIOSH approved respirator is recommended. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves and rubber gloves to minimize skin contact. This material has a high exotherm (generates heat). Do not mix components in glass or foam containers.

Important - Mixed XTC-3D® Resin is exothermic, meaning it generates heat. A large, concentrated mass of mixed material in a container can generate enough heat to melt a plastic cup, burn your skin or ignite combustible materials. If material begins to exotherm, move it to an open air environment.

I've been eyeing the Photon ever since it was brought up in the other Robotech thread; I didn't know there was a follow up planned, that's pretty cool. Do you have any links to details?

I'm very impressed by what you've done with a DLP; my own attempts at printing small finely detailed pieces have been very discouraging. Can I ask what nozzle size and layer thickness you use? I find things just stop working once I go below 0.4mm nozzle or 0.06mm layer height (my printer is supposed to be able to go down to 0.02), and I haven't figured out a way to fix it.

The i3 Mega has an out-of-the-box 0.4mm nozzle, so that's what I'm using.

Right now, the layer setting for the most detailed stuff is 0.08mm layers with 100% infill (so that the stuff above prints well), and a 25mm/s speed. That's what I used on the FA VF-1 and the Q-Rau. On the Gnerl I used my "Large minis" settings, 0.12mm layers, 20% infill and 40mm/s speed.

I've found that working with multiples of the nozzle width works better (for me, at least) so that's the reason for the numbers above.

As for a new Photon, well, it's something I've been told by some people who works with Anycubic, so I have no real "source".

I've never tried 0.08mm but in theory my printer should be able to handle it, maybe I'll give it a try. Thanks for the tips.

I'm still working on my RRT stuff.

I'll probably invest in an Anycubic Photon soon.

I'm a bit surprised that anyone is taking the license right now given how close HG is to losing it. Even if they release early 2019 (which would be a very quick dev cycle) they'll only get what 2 years before HG loses the rights? 2021 is when it happens if I remember correctly.

2 years is a long life for an RPG these days anyways. Wonder if it will be a “one and done” rule set for each era or if it will have continued support with supplements and adventures.

Going to definitely keep my eye on this, curious what the actual system will look like.

<EDIT> hmm, it has the D&D 5e and Pathfinder tags, so it makes me wonder if it will be a D20 system.

I can very much attest to the fact it is not a d20 system of any sort.

From the sound of it, you must be a part of the play test. Do they have somewhere you can sign up to be a playtester (that isn’t a Facebook page)?

Playtest? not yet. But I did get in direct contact with the company to basically go over it rip it apart if i can yeah lol

Um, why would you want to "rip it apart"? I mean, it's not like those guys have done anything... or am I not understanding your turn of phrase there?

Rip it apart and break it in order to make it better.

IE find rules issues etc and clarify/fix them before it is finalized.

Something that painfully obvious as not being done with rrt. Lol

Or the Megaversal system, for that matter. Still, it’s an odd sentiment to voice as an introduction to the game.

Any details you can share from your conversation? Is it similar to any other RPG systems we’ve seen in the past - Fate, Fudge, Savage Worlds, Tri-Stat, GURPS, dice pools, anything like that?

It reminds me slightly of earlier editions of shadowrun I played.....its a success based system. Still lots of kinks to work out but I like what see so far.

I too am really surprised anyone would invest time or money to develop anything for this toxified franchise and actually expect any return.

Hah, I’m not - pretty much it can only go upwards from here.

PB did manage to prove there is a market (Or, at least, there was) that’s interested in this franchise. If someone actually puts a decent product in front of the fans, I’ll bet it will get gobbled up - maybe not in the millions of $$ range, but enough to keep a game company in business.

I don't see myself buying it. I've got nothing against the company making it but I don't plan on giving HG any more money. They tacitly stood by without so much as a peep knowing that Palladium was misleading their own customers for five years. Any, no, the one year extension of the license after four years of enabling the deception wasn't sufficient IMO. Obviously YMMV.

I never was much of a fan of the actual Robotech franchise/series, so I don't have much of an interest on this either. And the only thing HG has gained has been my ire, for this, for the Macross embargo and for all the Battletech shenanigans, so... yeah, not very eager to give them the time of the day, much less money.

I wasn't a fan of either of those but neither affected me negatively financially personally so it never rose to a conscious choice on my part. I just previously admitted the douchiness of the company overall towards other corporate entities. In any case, if HG loses the license in 2021 or whenever the date bandied about is then I'll be free to buy a Macross branded RPG.

That might actually be the plan: license and establish a Robotech RPG, then convert it over to Macross when the clock runs out.

Of course, they'd still have to go through HG, since they've managed to claim ownership of the name MACROSS in this country.

Anyone know how the other new Robotech boardgames are doing?

Albertorius might be able to comment with some industry knowledge on that but, from a purely consumer experience of almost 30 years of gaming, I've only ever seen a single game "rebranded" after losing the license and that was iirc after at least a year and a big change in the text and obviously art (B5 Wars to whatever the follow up without B5 was). IIRC, the rebranding didn't work (although it went from name brand to generic so it's not a great comparison admittedly). I don't claim to know every game out there ever so feel free to correct me if I'm missing a bunch of them. Regardless, it most certainly will not be a simple "just replace Rick with Hikaru" job to covert it over if/when the clock runs out especially with a company like HG and their history of stifling anything Macross outside of Robotech.

Hm... it could be doable if they are already in contact with the original japanese company (and that in itself is something of a swamp), otherwise it wouldn't be very wise to release this on the hopes that any future dealings pan out.

OTOH, this license has a... history, and from my own interactions with Far East Amusement Research (F.E.A.R., a japanese publisher specialized in RPGs) they can be... kind of hard to deal with, particularly if you have no one actually in Japan to cement the deal.

Honestly, I would personally not hold my breath for that possibility.

The last "rebranded" game I remember was RQ6, which is not Myhtras, but that's kind of a different kettle of tea, as RQ has something of a history in that regard (MRQ transformed into Legend, too).

Well so far from what I have seen I like it. It is simple once you wrap your head around it. While using "successes" for skill use and damage it is also abstract to a degree meaning fine details and minutiae need not be worried about when it comes to mecha and such. I can see this game being quite a bit of fun once completed.

So the damage is linearly dependent on how successful the check was (a single roll for both instead of two separate ones)? Albertorius and I might be familiar with such a system if that is the case.

Probably best not to expect too much then after the cutoff date when HG loses the rights or, at a minimum, has to renegotiate for them. I don't know how well that last part will sit with fans though if it comes to pass (pure speculation on my part). I wasn't aware of the RQ history beyond knowing it changed hands at some point (80s?).
