I always play units that are really bad or not really worth taking, just because I love them so much, what's your gak list?

Khorne Bezerkers - always played them even throughout the years when they were terrible.

Howling Banshees - always played them

Celestians - still bad and I play them

Warbikers, still playing them even though 8th has bent them over.

Raveners - always played them.

Well, I've had/played WE for something like 13 years. I skipped most of 5th until 8th.

Although I do really enjoy my land raider.

I suppose it would depend entirely on your definition of "bad". This is Dakka, so if a unit is 0.78% less effective at killing something, it's often "complete and unmitigated crap and the rules designers should be shot!".

If you mean the handful of untis which are genuinely bad (i.e. the rules developers just got it terribly wrong)...hmmm..I'm not sure if I have anything I simply wouldn't ever field. I guess for Eldar I would say Warlocks. They're absurdly priced (they were originally given a price drop to make them appropriate...then bumped straight back up again...). While they are useful in the army, their statline, cost, and general performance is pretty laughable.

The Wraithknight is a complete and utter turd -but I don't own it. Chaos Terminators are really quite bad (as are most terminators) but I run them. Our group realized terminators were so bad we've house ruled a few changes to them so they actually see the table top.

I said really bad or just not worth taking. So even units that are just meh that you continue to field.

Even The GMNDK are really underwhelming when you compare them to other similar costed options . Toughness 6 is such garbage

Plague Marines. I love them so much, but they are such garbage on the tabletop.

It is true that nothing desirable is given to us for free. The only thing we can be certain about is a mundane, repetitive, and thoughtless existence. Improving our lives takes dedication and hard work, as our dreams won't simply become reality. Those who give up trying to better themselves get stuck in a state of hopelessness with no aspirations or goals. They live only in the depressing present. They blend into the crowd of people stuck in the same place and their lives slowly drain their hopes and desires. Seeing people in this situation is disheartening, but no situation is absolutely hopeless. Any situation can be changed if there is a will to change it.

Scouts aren’t as bad, but I still wish I had some cheap chaff unit like “chapter serfs” or something so I wouldn’t feel like the edition is purposefully attempting to get me to buy a guard battalion.

I bet you wish you had some sort of cultist type unit like us, come to the spiky side of the warp.

Plague marines, what are you talking about, their shooting is meh but they are tough as nails, so hard to kill, I love my plague marines. Sit them on an objective and they ain't going nowhere.

Careful about how you do that, or they won't fix GMNDKs. They'll just hike the cost of the golden jet captains instead.

For me, it's probably Deathwing, although I haven't even run them in casual play in a while. I love Termies thematically, even though they are crap in game. For my Chaos stuff, I'd say Possessed, although they aren't terrible. For Tau, it's Crisis suits and Breachers, although Breachers aren't terrible. Crisis suits, on the other hand, are hot crap at their current points cost and statline.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

Terminators are great, they are only the few standard units that get 2 wounds, so important in this edition. I use my Wolf Guard a lot.

Mega Nobz make me sad. Any Ork character that can wear Mega Armor, in Mega Armor, also make me sad. Killa Kans, Deff Dreads, and Gorkanauts. I run a Dread Mob list with all of those, and a Big Mek in Mega Armor.

There are some good things in the Ork index besides boyz and KMK, but not too many.

Plague marines are not half bad as min squads with 2 plague launchers marching alongside a chaos lord/dp with a re-roll to-wound aura for plague weapons. Not like it's sweeping tourneys but it's decent. Definitely not garbage.

When you say 'have to' I think troop choices. Well I have to field ork boyz, and they suck because they die in droves, flee without great support, can't shoot, require a terrible transport to reliably get in CC, are the only thing in our codex, earn me command points for which I only have mediocre strategems, and I need about 180 of them to only be good enough to be accused of being a slowplayer.

Am I the whinner?

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

Ork boys are great, cheap and tonnes of them, try playing an elite army and you'll come to appreciate them.

In my Angels of Silence (loyalist SM) army:
Centurion Devastators (yes, I actually like the models!)
10-man Tactical Squads

Despite my burning hatred for CAAC-types, I'm actually a pretty casual/fluffy player myself. As long as a list is functional, I'll happily include a few 'non-competitive' units. I do wish GW would discover some game design competence and make the units that should form the core of their faction in the fluff actually worth a damn on the tabletop.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

I suspect when he says "have to" what the OP more meant was "Units you force yourself to take anyway because you like them" or something

That isn't an elite army, I mean elite like in grey knights, custodes harlequins etc. armies with little choice to pick from and low model count.

They do look awesome, I've really got to start a DE army some day. I think I'll actually buy the Lelith Hesperax model before GW ruin the update, I would also do that with the Archon but they already ruined it with by losing the helmet and giving him the count chocula folded arms pose.
