You can use them for any game. We play 40k and we use them because they are great LOS blockers but we add bits and pieces on to make them more "gothic"

They were designed for superhero games and other games set in the current time but hey... it is your game

However, we will be releasing a set of gothic ruins specifically for 40k in the next few weeks... they look like this:

More fun with shipping containers... I chopped one up a little to make a Trading Post:

More pics and assembly article here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/763650.page#10147957

Just in case I didn't do so already, I would thoroughly recommend this container kit. It's all sorts of fun!

"Victoria Mansions" paint test.

This is the first of the 8mm art deco buildings.

It's not coming any time soon as we want to have an entire range before we go live, but the paint test worked out well (and was super simple to do)

If you are super bored, you can see the (very simple) step by step guide here: http://lasercutcard.co.za/painting-guides

This is a work in progress of a 28mm art deco building.

The model is not yet perfect but I am very pleased with how this test turned out.

There are some small improvements to be made and some extra detailing to be added but the final product will be very close to this

I will have a crack at painting the next version

The building has four main floors plus a caretaker house on the top. Each floor is 3" high.

The caretaker cottage gives access to the roof from the main lift shaft

There is access to each floor via the stairwells at the back. The stairwells can easily fit 2 models side by side on 25mm bases

Here are some other shots

Can anyone come up with an even half way sensible suggestion as to any advantage those containers could have over the normal square edged types? There's less room inside than in conventional containers of the same external dimensions and the cut off corners would make them much more difficult to pack with just about anything.

Doesn't even look like the rule of cool would be applicable.

I could not agree more but I will advance one reason: £10 vs £30

Stunning. And exactly what I need for my 40k games.

The only thing I don't like about it is that I can't go the store yet and buy it today.

Aldo the shipping to Norway likely would cost me my first born son.

Thanks for that! Yes, shipping will be expensive and I don't have a final cost, but the model plus shipping and tracking will cost less than a Leman Russ tank from GW.

In playing around with where the windows on the back need to be, I had to come up with an interior layout that would make sense.

So here is a first draft of the floorplan. Once I have finalised the building, these will be available for download so that if you want, you can have them available as sidebar tables. I'm also going to have one cut to see what it looks like.. It might be fun to be able to have a kill team game that is set entirely inside the building.

The floor plan would be very useful. Please also mark in the floorplan where the windows are (so troops can fire outside).

Transporting masses of temperature sensitive items. The octagon shape means there will be space between the stacks even when tightly stacked which will allow airflow and venting. One could guess that’s what the decoration on the angled edges is (vents). Also corners on the top rail can cause damage to strapping in shipping.

Failing that it’s spiffy , so rule of cool.

Presumably, there are two "units", and the Passage is a common area? If so, I'm not sure it makes sense for the bathroom on the right to have a door into the passage. I could also see the "southern" part of the passage removed entirely, and one or both of those bedrooms expanded into that space.

You win SOME sort of prize for spotting that (clearly deliberate) error

Correction attached.

Yes they are two separate units so the passage is common area

Dare I ask how one gets into the passage without using the lift?
Is there supposed to be a flight of stairs on the ‘front’ of the building opposite the elevator shaft?

Stairway access (and fire escape) is by the stairs at the rear, and residents can get into the passage via the kitchen

There is only one door on the rear stairs at the moment but this was because the test model was done before the interior was mapped out

The 28mm Art Deco Project continues! This is the prototype of the second building: Surrey Mansions.

Of the three buildings intended for the initial run, this is the tallest at just over 50cm to the top of the detailing.

Questions need to be asked at this point. Should the model be one piece or should it be modular to allow for easier storage?

This is a size comparison with Cheviot Court. It is substantially bigger

The basic shape *could* be broken down into a) the base b) the front tower c) the rear tower

Breaking it into 3 sections will certainly make storage easier but will leave join lines when they are assembled. It is a tough call but I think it will need at least one test with the building in modules

Here is a paint test of Cheviot Court. I won't lie... there were a lot of bugs in this cut and it can be greatly improved.

Bugs included missing parts (that I had to hand cut), parts that were reversed and so bent the wrong way and then problems I created myself in building it in a certain order of parts that created problems.

Still - this is why we do test builds.

Click on the images for bigger versions

This photo shows off most of the bugs but also some cool gaming ideas. I will definitely make the roof removable for this top building but I think the interior walls have to go as the space inside is too small

Thanks! There is still a bit of work to do - currently the build skill required is "expert" and I want to dial that back to "Intermediate"

The difference between Intermediate and Expert is mostly about the number of swear words you need, so I have a list of small changes to make that should require a reduced vocabulary when building

We're working on a warehouse district as a set of terrain.

The idea is to have

  • a warehouse

  • shipping containers

  • a truck

  • a cargo loading robot

The truck and robot are designed as scenery, not playable models, and so are simplified and easy-to-build designs

Here are the paint tests for the robot and truck

This is the first draft of the warehouse with a test paint scheme.

It is a simple box shape with some Edwardian detailing.

The truck is scaled to take our standard and sci-fi containers

The robot is designed to look like it could load the containers ont the truck

The robot and truck need some minor changes (the robot needs beefier arms and the truck can be made easier to build but we are getting close to release
