Hi all, I am putting together Deathwatch for Kill Teamand would like some help magnetizing my crew. What sort of magnets should I use, and what size hand drill bits would you all recommend? I’m completely in the dark about my shopping list! I also saw a tutorial that recommended grabbing a magnet tube. Any suggestions on brands for the aforementioned tools?

For magnetising weapons etc, I buy Disc magnets (neodium) and get 4 or 5mm because I have a drill bit of those sizes so they slide right in. I stick with 1.5 MM or 2 MM thick because I drill them in. if you want magnets to stick on the outside, go 1mm. Just buy the same size disc magnet as a drill bit you can get (say 5mm if metric works for you). As a note, I have no problem using my drill bits by hand OR in my dremel type tool. Plastic is very easy to work with and control your depth. (just for clarity, for vehicles etc i go larger)
My typical method is to sink the magnet on the model in and use a flat one on the weapon.

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

I would suggest using smaller magnets, as 5mm or larger I usually use for dreads/knights/vehicles; DO NOT use dremmel on your models.

I suggest 2mm round x 1mm thick, 3mm x 1mm, 5mm x 1mm, and 3mm round with 1 mm hole Ring type magnets. Get yourself a hand held pin vise or 2 with many drill bitz, you may break a few drill bit tips at the beginning so wear eye protection.

the magnets you can get on ebay fairly easily and cheap; they usually have a N35 or N50 number attach to it, the higher the N#, the stronger the magnetization. Always get the 1mm thickness, as anything that need thicker you can always glue them back to back.

Use a marker to mark one one side of your magnet and keep your magnetization universal through out your models. Sometime you may find yourself drilling a hole too shallow for the mag and applied it too soon, no problem, drill a small hole next to it and use a metal jewelry file and pry the magnet out.

The Ring type magnets are use for area that require extra strength, like a IK waist or arms, you simply drill a hole deeper where the ring hole is to glue in a pin.

If you are worried about drilling off centered, use a smaller drill bit to attempt centering, once centered, use a bigger bit over the hole as a guideline.
