I absolutely refuse attempts to justify Palpatine or assign any benevolence to his actions.

Star Wars was apparently never that big in India, how are folks back in the real world feeling about the Mandalorian movie?

I feel like my social media feed should be full of stuff but it's not. If I hadn't looked up the release date I'd have no idea it's coming.

I’m excited for it.

Big fan of the show, and there are some teasers up on D+ which have me enthused.

I wonder how it will work for those who haven't watched the whole show.

Because I saw season 1 and that's all.

My wife is really excited to see it. I’m about half as hyped to see Grogu as I am to see that A24 movie where rocks become buildings or some gak. I probably would have forgotten about Grogu if they didn’t play the trailer before Project Hail Mary.

I'm planning to see it but expecting it to be so so and dreading the deluge of hate its sure to accrue online. It's such a hard fanbase to get excited about these days.

Seeing it opening day. I’ll happily point out where I think folks saying it’s not good haven’t actually seen it.

Which won’t be all of them. But it will be some of them. Sadly.

Reminds me of a Viz strip called Ivan Jellical, which I absolutely cannot share on Dakka, where he and his church buddies are protesting Harry Potter, making all sorts of accusations about its content whilst clearly knowing nothing about it.

I lost interest in Star Wars long ago, in a geography far, far away......

One of my favorite recent Star Wars things was a super cut of people pushing buttons and flicking switches in Star Wars shows.

A friend & I are planning to see it opening weekend. Exact day/time to be determined.

I expect to be over-charged & at least moderately entertained.

I'm looking forward to it, not enough to actually go to the cinema, but I'll see it eventually.

I do need to actually get around to watching season 3 of The Mandolorian though. I've been putting it off because I need to watch the Boba Fett series first, and that I've been putting off because I was waiting for it's Blu-ray release, unfortunately Disney seems to have given up on physical releases for it's streaming shows again.

You really don't. You can easily just watch the 2 episodes of Boba Fett that have nothing to do with the plot of Boba Fett and you'll get everything you need to know for Mando 3. Technically Din is in the last episode of Boba as well but he really adds nothing to it and nothing happens that matters for his own show. The two episodes prior are pretty vital as part of the big reset they've been pushing.

I wrapped up watching the Acolyte, Andor, and got 3 episodes into Ahsoka this weekend.

The Acolyte. It wasn't bad and I didn't hate it. Until the last episode.

So many plot points never resolved, and I mean ones that weren't needed as season 2 plot points. Plus some liberties they took with standing canon that I disliked.

Spoiler:
Never addressing the ramifications of what Mae/Osha being the "same person" was, and what a vergence in the Force meant.
The creepy "Darth Plagius" in the cave, and the saber crystal thing were canon breaks I didn't care for, regardless of the cool visual of the saber turning (after the crystal had already changed, but whatever.
Plus the Mae/Osha personality flip was baffling along with wiping the memory and leaving Mae behind.

As a person who thoroughly enjoyed Obi-Wan despite seeing the hate piled onto it, I was open to Acolyte doing its own thing.
But the way things were written is my main gripe with it.

Andor. Hands Down the best series they've done. Wish the second season was able to run longer, but they did well with the compressed story.
Spoiler:
I felt they pulled off the same thing Game of Thrones did, by introducing characters just to rip your heart out after half a season. I can only imagine how it would have felt to live with them for more episodes.

Ahsoka, I am still coming to terms with the characters from Rebels having different voices and mannerisms, despite the casting & costumes looking excellent. The droids are phenomenal.
Baylon Skoll is fantastic. RIP Ray Stevenson...
My biggest complaint 3 eps in is that the story feels too obvious so far. Too episodic and predictable.

I think the Acoylte deserves a second season. The first was imperfect, but honestly not as bad as its reputation. A second season would’ve had time to reflect and tweak things.

Ahsoka? I can’t wait for the second season. It’s going to dovetail into the other shows, such as Mando and hopefully give us something of a resurgent Empire.

I really enjoyed Ahsoka, but it does suffer a bit from the tendency of Star Wars to ask big questions about the nature of the Force and never paying off in a satisfying way. I liked it a lot, but would have preferred something a little tighter paced or more episodic.

Sure, but its the same song and dance as so many Star Wars properties before it. It's the same central problem we've seen in just about any Jedi centric media going back at least as far as the chosen one nonsense from the prequels.

Just imagine if we'd had Mando and Ashoka and whatever else BEFORE the sequel trilogy.

Right now I feel like they're doing the job of the Clone Wars CGI, fleshing things out so well they redeem a not-very-good movie series.

Some of that is the result of the galaxy becoming a lot more codified after the original trilogy, which absolutely just throws events and technology with very little coherent thought beyond what works for the story at you as well. It's just a little free of existing expectations and telling a dramatically less complicated story. The deep worldbuilding just can't happen in the pace of the films, but both prequels and sequels could do a better job guiding viewers.

Episode 7 just really, really needed to better explain the Resistance if not rename it entirely. Like the concept is pretty cool and even coherent in the movie itself, but in no way explained in a coherent or satisfying way. Mando/Ahsoka adds little here for me, as all that's really missing is some basic political definitions and I'm less jarred by the Palpatine cloning as others seem to be. I felt like 9 explained "somehow" just fine. It's just a terrible film.

Early reviews are coming in for Mandalorian and Grogu, and it’s not looking great. RT score near 65%, Metacritic was 54 when I checked. Even some of the “fresh” reviews have been brutal. “You can’t swing and miss if you never take the bat off your shoulder.”

Apparently one critic tweeted “I owe an apology to The Acolyte.”

The overall gist is that M&G feels like a few mediocre episodes glued together for runtime.

Mostly I've heard its just a standalone action adventure. People looking for that seem happy with it and people wanting some kind of lore development are disappointed.

The trailers for The Mandolorian and Grogu make the Masters of the Universe trailer look epic.

MOTU is also getting better reviews.

I'm actually wanting to see MOTU.

The Mando movie just doesn't seem to that good. Maybe it's the roid rage Hutt... or something else. It just doesn't look appealing.

I mean, it doesn't help that Mando and Grogu's character arc basically wrapped up by S2 and then it was hastily undone in S3 and Book of Boba for the sake of keeping "marketable SW character" in the main story to help Disney sell the only SW merch that has been really been moving since after their disastrous Disney sequel trilogy.

Anything else with Mando and Grogu at this point is just spinning their wheels for the sake of it rather than any cohesive narrative direction. Which you can kind of tell from this movie.

Hutts were never designed to move on their own. They've never gotten it to look right.

Mando looks... fine. Fun enough. I'm not feeling much need to compare it to a movie I can't see for another couple of weeks.

I saw Mando & Grogu last night.

It could use an edit or an intermission.
It felt long, in every way possible.
Can't put my finger on why.

Spoiler:
Everything there was interesting.
It just felt like watching someone play fetch quests in an MMO.

One thing I liked, they didn't pause for an intro scene for Zeb. He was just there, and Mando knew him. All you needed to know.

My biggest gripe was the Friks, and maybe this is carryover to everything...
They came on the scene at M&G's house on Nevarro.
Then followed to Nal Hutta.
After the big Escape finale, they were on the New Republic base on Adelphi.
It was just weird that they simply knew where to go.
Locations I had to google because I don't remember seeing it on screen.
Additionally, Rotta has way too much dialogue that is long & felt like it was therapy sessions for him.

I heavily suggest waiting to stream it.
I would probably have it on in the background while hobbying.

Loved it!

A good action romp, never lets up, do they take shortcuts in the name of keeping things rolling?

We need you to find our nephew. He's on 1930s New York Planet.
I have no further questions, no need to narrow things down to a city or even a continent.
(flies to 1930s New York Planet, goes to the nearest food truck)
You seen this dude?
Yeah he's on the poster behind you.

A bit, yes.

But I never minded it.

May go back with the Wonder Twins to see it again.
