Though it would be been nice if the wee fuds next to me hadn’t chipped in repeating sound effects and dialogue.
I’m gonna assume excitement and/or a bit of neurodiversity. And at least they weren’t loud with it. But man, just shush
I recall seeing the The Avengers in the theatre, and the kids in front of me were having such a good time and were so excited. It made the experience magical to me, even if they were loud. Their enthusiasm was contagious and let me see the movie with more child-like eyes and feelings.

I did think about how to tell them to shush, without being a phallus. But the words weren’t there. And as with my career? If the words don’t persuade you, you’re almost certainly on the wrong track.
I’m a big fella, and so can all too easily come across as intimidating. But assuming excitement and maybe some neurodiversity (I stress they weren’t being obnoxious) I felt it best to leave it be.
Even now, a few hours after the fact? I think the best approach would be a “shhh”. Maybe preceded by a “hey lads”.

I remember seeing the last Hobbit film in theaters at the 10 o'clock showing, thinking there wouldn't be any children there. We were wrong.
This family comes in and plops down between us and this other couple.
The two youngest immediately start playing on their phones and one girl keeps asking her father, "who is that?"
After about 6 minutes of that, the guy from the couple in the other row stands up and in a very commanding voice says, "Unless you tell your children to turn off those goddamned noise makers, I'm going to take those phones from them and throw them through the screen. And then I'm going to throw your children through the screen."
The family left (I assumed to go get help) but never came back.
My buddy and I did not make one comment throughout the entire movie.

So, I guess it’s spoiler time?
Serious spoilers coming up.
Spoiler:
So, the movie isn’t really about anything in particular. But it is showing us more of the galaxy, and doing what I presume is scene setting for future tales, either in movies or shows.
The Imperial Remnant aren’t just moustache twirling villains. Some have essentially turned Robber Barons with Protection Rackets. Yet we see they don’t seem to have the resources necessary to protect their domains, as we’re told Pirates are an increasing threat.
And the New Republic Forces can’t be everywhere. Yes their craft and pilot skills remain superior to most foes, certainly every foe we see, but they’re still limited.
By the end of it, I’m left with questions about how stable the Hutts are. The twins are dead, and Rotta wants nothing to do with the criminal empire. That’s…that’s a power vacuum.
Now we know from Episode VII that Kanjiklub and the Guavian Death Gang will eventually ascend in some fashion. But I don’t think we’ve a clear picture of just how powerful those gangs were.
So for future stuff? We’ve the continued pursuit of Imperial Remnants, the aforementioned power vacuum among the criminal syndicates and remaining Hutts, and honestly? Questions about the New Republics capacity and priorities. Are they too focussed on The Imperial Remnant? It’s all fine and well having a fleet that can knacker pretty much any opponent (The First Order prioritises its destruction, so presumably it was impressive) but there’s still a lot of space out there.
Also Grogu is maturing, which is nice to see. Gone from kid to teenager, maybe young adult in his behaviour and responsibility.
So, whilst this may not contain a great deal of lore expansion? I think it may turn out to be an Age of Ultron, and be the mid-point foreshadowing and plot seeding.

A buddy & I saw Madolorian/Grogu today.
It was an entertaining way to spend a rainy afternoon.
Movie wise? Entertaining enough, just nothing overly special imo. Definitely nothing here that'd make anyone hate & rage against SW.
Honestly it felt like if they'd cut it into about 4 episodes, fleshed each out just a bit & put it on D+? They'd have had half a seasons worth of content.
The showing we attended had a fair amount of kids (10 or younger). THEY loved it.
When the New Republic blew up the Twins & their palace my buddy pointed out "Well, I guess Fett won't be needing permission to kill them..."
(Season 1 of Boba Fett - the twins are annoying him & Fennic makes a comment about if he's thinking of killing them he'll need permission {presumably from other Hutt/crime lords?})
Can't believe I'm saying this about a Star Wars film, but this is the one film I'm least excited for this year. Doesn't mean I'm not excited, but Star Wars hasn't been going in a direction I've hoped for of late and my expectations are much lower this time around.
The comments that this should have been just a season of the show amuse me given how many people said some of the shows they did should have been a movie.

Yup.
I think it’s quite nicely balanced. You really don’t need to have seen much Star Wars to enjoy this movie, because first and foremost it’s a really entertaining adventure flick. But for folks like me that’ve seen everything except the Holiday Special (I have tried), there are lots of wee Easter eggs to enjoy.
Which I think is applying the right MCU Recipe. First and foremost focus on telling an interesting story, one which’ll carry the movie on its own. Then you start flavouring it with the wider universe.
Might actually go see it again.

I really enjoyed it, far more than I expected to. It really excels in music and atmosphere and giving new locals that sense of lived in verisimilitude that makes Star Wars special. It's oddly at its best when nothing is happening, but keeps itself moving with a nice balance of solid action (that doesn't rely too much on beskar) and cute humor.
I'm not sure the movie demands much in the way of a rewatch. The story isn't bad but its definitely lacking an emotional core that ties it together. That's probably where it most resembles TV writing along with a few notable chapter breaks.
Overall though, I absolutely enjoyed this. I definitely have nits to pick but they're absolutely missing the point of what this movie tries and largely succeeds at being.

Off to see it again this evening.
It’s not uncommon for me to see such a film twice. But added incentive? Cinema am has aircon. House am not has aircon.

Automatically Appended Next Post: Second viewing done. Enjoyed it maybe a little more? Certainly it didn’t feel as long this time, and more like a movie.

Disney's Lone Wolf and Cub was fine. I think most will enjoy it to one degree or another. Only significant criticism is that it feels like two 90 minute movies edited together down to 130 minutes which gives it a weird pacing that occasionally meanders while also skipping over things. Still, overall very enjoyable.
Possible titles for the two movies:
M&G: The Ambush Arena
M&G: The Revenge of the Hutts
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

There are some really nice little touches. For instance?
Spoiler:
Grogu using the Force in a Jedi way. Kinda passive. He sends Big Doggo to sleep, rather than Force Hurling it. He uses the bomb thing to effect Mando’s escape, when he could have used it on the Dragonwyrm.
He does of course have a good go at the massive Battle Droid, by climbing inside it and ripping out cables. That was cool. But his limited success reflects that just like his efforts in the ship? He doesn’t really know what he’s doing,
There’s a nice playing with scale here. Rotta is too big to pilot the Razorcrest. Mando has no chance of fitting in the Anzati ship. Each loose group’s relative sizes are played with to show up and down sides. That for me really worked, and made the galaxy feel more varied.
Whilst I think the positive word of mouth will see this movie make a box office profit, albeit a small to modest one? I don’t think it’s going to have any problems whatsoever shifting Merch. Whip of course, has always been the big thing for Star Wars profits. And something always forgotten when professional complainers say Disney must’ve lost lots of money after buying Lucasfilm.

100% agree on the second one. They didn’t have to do it. Some might argue they shouldn’t have done it. But those people are morons, because it works so, so well.
Spoiler:
Maybe it’s just our relative vintages? But that style of animation just seems to work for selling the scale of big things. Also reminded me of Robocop 2.

There isn't really a lot to spoil in this film, but random spoiler comments:
Spoiler:
I am looking forward to Rotta reuniting with Ahsoka at whatever point in the future.
I think in general what continually impressed me was how restrained a lot of the Star Wars street kind of stuff is. The movie doesn't call attention to things like the board game or even character references as much as they are just there with little care of whether or not you recognize them or you know who they are.

On the stop motion?
Spoiler:
Aware I’m possibly reading too much into it? But it put me in mind of a Droid Brain that’s upgraded itself to a much bigger body. And so the movement isn’t quite as smooth, as its programming is more strained trying to organise its chunkier body. Which makes for interesting visual only storytelling.
We see from the rest of the Gotra, which are a mish-mash of various battle droids and battle droid parts. So it’s either “this’ll do” self repair, or more deliberate, elective body modification. A mode of self expression few Droids are allowed. Which is also the case with the ill-fated L3-37, which started off as an Astromech and modified its body over the years, performing lots of upgrades.
So, I guess add that to the funky lore deep dives which are there for us to enjoy without boring the more general audience?
Oh. And top marks, absolute top marks, for the Jetson sound effect for the Anzellan speeder! Some might call it the Scooty Puff Junior sound effect. But they’re just not appreciative of history.

I loved the random repaired droids! They were all super interesting visually, giving the bounty hunter vibes that is very Star Wars to me!

I think he was meaning the Droid Gotra aesthetic in general, not Embo.
Kinda bummed to see it struggling at the box office. But as I sit here listening to Figrin Da’an and the Modal Nodes for the umpteenth time in my life? I could perhaps describe this as a Cantina Flick.
It’s not particularly about anything pivotal in the Galaxy. At least not yet, because there is a future yet to come and I feel seeds have been sown during its run time.
But it’s like a feature length Mando S1 tale. It helps the world to breathe and feel ever more real.

Just got back from seeing TM&G, was a solid, fun adventure. Not revelatory, but just a fun little movie.
Random thought though, the shot in the opening credits with the X-wings coming out of the setting sun was just awesome. If the Starfighter film isn’t Top Gun: Star Wars I will be rather disappointed!

I'm probably going to be run out of town for this, but it was just okay.
I've already forgotten 60% of it, as it just felt like they made me pay for something I could watch for free on Disney+. There were some interesting parts and some bits that felt like they were tacked on to increase run time (yay! Grogu is wandering through a forest by himself! This furthers the plot!)
But, I've felt the same way about 99% of the spoiled tripe that Disney has served us in the theater with the Star Wars logo slapped haphazardly on the side.
Maybe Top Gun in Spaaaaaaaaace will be better. But I'm not holding my breath.

I think you’ve missed the subtext.
This was our first time seeing Grogu doin’ it for himself.
He’s growing up. He’s doing an honestly pretty reasonable job of it all things considered.
And what we see him do? He’s gonna be a beast when matured.
I can also make an argument he’s damn near Pure Jedi. When he uses the force outside of “make good closer to me”? It’s kinda passive.
He could have force thrown Embo’s pooch, or indeed either Hutt Twin. But no. He’s takes the pass of least resistance at all points. Why harm, when you can subdue?
I genuinely think this an Age of Ultron thing. Where the film is fairly described as not progressing things much. But it’s in-universe events will bear rich fruit in series and years to come.

Yeah, didn't miss any Subtext. Still saw (and continue to see) the scene as unnecessarily long padding in a film that didn't need it.
They could've chopped that scene in half and it would've played better.
