Hello there. [If I posted in the wrong forum index, feel free to move it.]

As the title says, I wanna discuss the factions that appear in Full Thrust. Keep in mind that I've never played it before, but after looking at these* links, it kinda makes me wish that Full Thrust would get it's own reboot of some kind where it can stand out on it's own as sort of an alternative to Star Wars Armada, if that makes any sense. Sorry if I get anything wrong though since I'm not too familiar with it.

What really draws me into this obscure wargame is it's human factions in the form of interstellar nation-states. Though I have a few questions on which factions are or aren't canon. From what I can tell, the canon ones listed in the first link are...

00. European Confederation
01. New Anglican Confederation (British Empire)
02. Neu Swabian League (German Empire)
03. Federal Stats Europa (France/European Union)
04. Eurasian Solar Union (Russia/China/Sino-Soviet Union)
05. Indonesian Commonwealth (ASEAN?)
06. Islamic Federation (Arab League?)
07. Free Cal-Tex (One of the most unique factions of this bunch in my humble opinion.)
08. Pan-African Union
09. League of Latin American Republics
10. New Swabian Union? (Again? This a splinter faction of the NSL or just a typo on the first link's part?)
11. Japan (Referred to as the Japanese Empire here* and the Imperial Japanese States here*.)
12. New Israel
13. Oceanic Union
14. Romanov Hegemony
15. Royal Dutch Commonwealth
16. Saeed Khaliphate (Iran?)
17. Switzerland
18. Kra'Vak (Xenos)
19. Sa'Vasku (Xenos)
20. Phalon (Xenos)

But looking at the second link, I see mentions of factions not listed in the first one such as...

01. Verenigde Randwaarts Compagnie (Dutch East India Company in space?)
02. Midgard Herding (Unified Scandinavia?)
03. Rim Sector Concordium
04. Common Republic (Space America before being annexed by the NAC?)
05. FSE Separatists (Whose flag is basically the flag of Brittany as seen in link number four.)
06. The Thousand Nations (Iran/Persia?)
07. Far Stars Union (As seen in link four.)
08. New Confederate States (As seen in link four.)
09. Nea Rhomaioi Empire (Space Byzantium as seen in link four.)
10. Confederation of Celtic States
11. New Jordan
12. Union of Border Worlds
13. Ghurkas
14. Independent Antarctic States
15. Uusi Somi
16. ITTT (Known as Interstellar Trade Transport and Communications in this fifth* link.)
17. New Irish Republic
18. Bavarians
19. Mongols
20. Templars
21. Alarishi Empire (Xenos?)
22. Interstellar Democratic Republic (As seen on the sixth link below.)
23. People's Republic of Mars (Same as above.)
24. Scandinavian Federation (?)
25. Scots
26. Semitic Federation of Space Faring Worlds
27. Texaco Free Trade Zone
28. New Scotian Alliance

To any fans of Full Thrust out there that might come across this thread, if I got any lore wrong, please feel free to let me know. But yeah, with the exception of this game only having three (or four) alien factions, this is my ideal setup for a wargame that has multiple human factions. Whereas the 40k human factions are all branches of Imperium's military, each human faction in Full Thrust looks is a space colonial empire looking out only for their own political interests. At least that's what it seems like to me, that is. Anyways, feel free to share your thoughts on this matter. Thank you and have a good day, wherever you may be.

Good luck with the project. I played Full Thrust a bunch years ago but we typically made our own ships for scifi crossover battles rather than using official factions.

I thought it was still ongoing what with the new ruleset a couple of years ago?

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

The "new ruleset" was something done by a third-party fan group from Germany, wasn't it? The last "official" book was Fleet Book 2 some time in the 1990s, with a few sets of experimental rules to go along with the more recent fleets - UNSC, New Israeli, etc …

K9ofChaos, I think a lot of those additional factions you mention will be unofficial additions; the community for Full Thrust was quite well-established in the late 90s, and a lot of different fan sites would reference each other and build upon each other.

Bear in mind that the background was really only included as something for you to use if you didn't have your own setting.

I've got both styles of FSE fleet, a UNSC fleet, some NSL and OU ships, and possibly some other odds and ends lying around somewhere.

Well that kinda sucks. It would be cool if Ground Zero Games or any other company decided to expand upon the lore that was admittedly a template for those who didn't have their own homebrew settings to go with it. Even cooler if they incorporated the fan-made factions into the canon.

When you say "UNSC", are you talking about area of space labeled as "the core" and the "inner colonies" shown on this map here?: http://www.projectrho.com/ft/astropoliticalx.gif

Or are you referring to the United Nations Space Command from Halo?

I'm referring to the United Nations Space Command fleet from Full Thrust. The areas labelled "core" on that map aren't a single faction (for example, almost all the canon factions still have a presence on Earth, apart from New Israel and a few others, although they've all moved their capitals off-world. The UN has basically become the government of Earth in all but name, and its fleet is large enough to rival those of the four major powers.

The fluff is a bit sparse, as the UNSC fleet was the first one released after the publication of Fleet Book 2 in 2000, so there's only the odd snippet gleaned from mailing lists and the like.

IIRC, the UNSC ships for Full Thrust predate the release of Halo: Combat Evolved (as do the New Israeli powered armour, which look like a cross between Spartan armour and the spacesuits from 2001: A Space odyssey).

If you want more fluff for Full Thrust, you'll need to write it yourself; GZG is a one-man show, and Jon Tuffley is kept busy enough sculpting, casting and selling miniatures that he's had no time to do anything about the rules. There are some new Kra'Vak ships released in the last fortnight, though there's no official stats. I don't know where FT fans hang out nowadays to go and find out.

I have played GZG Full Thrust off and on for number of years, but to help you with those nations try here
www.warpfish.com/gzgpedia/nation-index.shtml

One of the fun thing is being able to set up your own star nation and try to figure out where they fit in.
also they product Dirtside II and Stargrunt II rules set
