Subject: Adding another Shadowsword or Valdor tank hunter to my army?
Hello, I’m looking at getting another super heavy to add to my IG army for my birthday. I’ve got a Shadowsword with extra sponsons and a baneblade. I was looking at getting another Shadowsword with extra sponsons and running a super heavy detachment or a Valdor tank hunter. But then I thought I could have both. And run the Shadowswords and Valdor in one detachment and the baneblade in a supreme command detachment.
Should I just get the Shadowsword or Valdor or both?
Thanks

I’d rather just have the Shadowsword or Valdor and not magnetise as I don’t really need another baneblade, as I can use leman russes to fulfill that roll

Why you talk about just shadowsword or baneblade when there's what 8(?) variants you can choose? For fairly small amount you have all variants and are safe for when GW nerfs variant you use and boosts other to be the king.

For each octoblade I’d need to buy both a shadowsword and baneblade, where I might as well just build both tanks rather than just have one and just swap out if needed in a small game and in an apoc game I’m not going to be fussed if my army isn’t quite the best
Automatically Appended Next Post: The job for my super heavies is to fight other super heavies. Which is why I’m going shadowsword and valdor

Because the other ones are pretty much -1 versions of the big 3 without offering any benefit. Also, I found that magnetizing wasn't worth my time; I always use them in the same loadout anyway.
I'd go Shadowsword, though, it's better than the Valdor, [and I adore the Shadowsword model, too]. Running both would be pretty neat, and if you want to run the whole group it might be worth it to go for the cheaper super-heavy.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

My thinking exactly, I do like the shadowsword in general, big ass gun that can destroy pretty much anything that gets thrown at it. If I can convince the parents to get the Valdor (as my girlfriend would be getting the shadowsword), then I’ll have both and run 2x shadowswords and a Valdor . With the baneblade in a supreme hq detachment
By Octoblade do you mean just all the variants from the one box? If so then I’ve already done it on the shadowsword I have, but never really bothered changing from that

You can technically find space in your army to field 4 Super heavies, but that's going to be pretty much your entire army. Also, you won't have friends, and would be Imperial Knights -1.
I don't personally see much value in the magnetization. It just gets used in 1 set up, so I might as well have built it that way anyway.

just dont glue thegun on fully.. you can blue tack them or magnetize them. The banehammer is also a grea tank to run... transports 25 units and the gun is prob second best . Halving your opponents move and advance 50% can be very good.
also you can either make or buy 2 more sponsons from GW. i have 4 baneblade variants and i can octosponson all 4. I did have to make 4 of them though

It gets used in one setup now. Magnetizing isn't just about current options, it's about future-proofing the model if the meta changes or if there's a points/stat adjustment.

Shadowsword: best IGLoW, one of the best units in the game and often claimed to be overpowered. Kit has the bonus option to make other variants, giving you more list flexibility for your money.
Valdor: utter trash. Costs almost as much as a Shadowsword, does significantly less damage and has significantly worse durability. But hey, at least it's not a Malcador?
Conclusion: buy a Shadowsword if you want to play the game, buy the Valdor if you want a display piece that will only see the table as a proxy for a Shadowsword
There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Got a group of 6 who I play regularly against and two of them are fairly competitive (ad mech/knights and guard/knights) so having multiple shadowswords to help combats their knights rotating ion sheld shenanigans and shadowsword will help
Might just stick to the shadowswords. Got the shadowsword on order. I do have a second set of sponsons so both would shadowswords would have 2x sponsors. Is it worth sticking a second set on the baneblade?
