These were not pre existing characters. In fact, we didnt know anything about their characters. All we knew was a new ghostbusters. This time they are women.

We knew that they deliberately had nothing to do with the original, and were being positioned as a complete replacement, as if the beloved original had never existed. And then the studio, like you, got behind the narrative that anyone who didn't like that change was a Nazi.

That's patently offensive to the fans and anyone who might have wanted to otherwise have made up their minds. Given the false dichotomy, it's better to be a Nazi.

Turns out, I didn't say anyone not behind that change was a nazi. I said people who didn't like it purely because they were women were misogynists. The hate didn't start when we found out it was a reboot. The hate started the very moment it was an all female team. We didn't know if it was a reboot. We didn't know if they were taking over from the old team in the same continuity. We didn't know anything. It didn't stop the videos, the posts, and the tweets that women couldn't be ghost busters.

Again, conspiracy much? Don't put words in my mouth. Stop saying people are calling you things they didn't say. If you didn't want it to be a reboot fine. Fair. Good on you. Them being women isn't a factor then.

Oh, please. You're saying that the hate is tied to misogyny, when that is clearly false. The hate predates the misogyny, and is fully warranted due to the film being outright misandrist in the way it treats men. The studio (and Jones) escalated things to the fan v Nazi dichotomy, and you're parroting that narrative.

The Nazis were right. It's better to be a Nazi than a fan.

Thank you for getting me on the side of Milo and the Nazis.

Good job. Dealing with apologists like you makes me hate Ghostbusters, hate Sony, hate everyone associated with the GB16 reboot so fething much. I can't believe it, but you've done it. But I now understand why the Nazis won here, and it's entirely because of people like you.

And with that, I'm out of the thread.

I said THAT hate is tied to misogyny. Not ALL hate. I love that apparently we all knew it would be misandrist before we even knew the casting or production had started.

Real good.

Man, stop arguing with them. If you prove a point they either ignore it or move the goal posts. You can tell them Trump was tweeting sexist things about the movie and they would tell you that it wouldn't matter. They are intentionally being offended by this. They want to be victims.

Endless. Hostility.

If an internet discussion about a crappy movie reboot was enough to tip you over into the pro nazi camp, I think that you might want to examine where your starting point was in terms of who you are.

Maybe we should have pizza, watch a game, chill out and move on from GB16.

So, with that in mind, how would the upcoming movie follow on from the first two films? I'll bet it involves another Godzilla sized character in the final act, hopefully with a dude-in-a-suit again!

They should just do the real ghost busters cartoon in live action.

New kids take over from one of the old crew after the others have retired or moved on. In the cartoon it was egon. Since hes dead it would probably need to be ray since hes the only other actual scientist that understands wtf is going on.

I'm pretty sure that's really the best thing to take out of this entire sad discussion. That really kinda surprised me, and I'm really disappointed in some of the people here.

I'm surprised that you are surprised. You've participated in some of Dakka's more eye-opening threads. Compared to the Last Jedi threads, any thread about female miniatures, or the one that caused Ouze to quit his DCM status, this is pretty tame.

Probably means Ghostbusters is a dying brand.

I guess I've been lurking and staying out of most threads too long. I do try to think better of people when I can, though.

As for Ghostbusters being a dying brand, I think that's pretty accurate a read. It was dead for a long time though, let's be fair, and even though the relaunch was a bit of a flop, I respect the fact that they tried to bring it back without doing some kind of bland, unimaginative remake that just aped the original as much as it possibly could.

That was Extreme Ghostbusters, not The Real Ghostbusters!

And since I'm not on Twitter: how much grief did the studio behind The Upside get for putting Cranston in a wheelchair? We'd probably need to multiply the outrage by a factor of ten for a higher profile movie like this.

I never saw it, but I hear the execution left something to be desired. Still, I find it's better when film makers swing for the fences and hit a memorable foul than when they just bunt to get on base.

More like SO's orders. And when the person you're making plans to live with asks something like that, you do make an effort even if it's difficult.

Anyway, that's also why I criticize Andromeda's buggy release, but not its narrative feel. I felt it was different enough from the ME series as a whole to justify its existence, if they had just spent like a few more months polishing animations and fixing bugs. Swing for the home run, give your game/movie/other creative work some soul. Better that than bland but profitable.

Ah yeah. Extreme ghostbusters. That one.

That show had a good mix for the new team and was enjoyable from memory. I wont go back. Its probably terrible. But the premise was sound. If i remember correctly they were all students who were the only ones that took egons paranormal science class at the local college. Then when gak got whacky they took up the job as both work experience and credits for school.

Dudes, there was also a video game where the whole cast returned as voice actors. It was amazing.

It was also what would have been the plot of Ghostbusters 3 had it been successful in 2002 or 2008. Pretty much the script that Aykroyb and Ramis wrote.

I don't think I could get into a Ghostbusters video game. I'm still traumatized from the last one that I played for the commodore 64. It was a while ago, granted, but time has not healed that wound.

The last ghost busters game i played was on either the sega master system or the genesis. It was hot garbage.

If it was the action-platformer then it was the Megadrive, otherwise the Master system.

The terrible C64 game where you were mostly pushing your car to the gas station was terrible. Played a ton of the NES version back in the day.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game from 2009 was incredible. Definitely something anyone that likes the franchise should play.

The only other game that's really any good that I'm aware of (not including Luigi's Mansion) is New Ghostbusters 2 for the NES that never got a US release. Satoru Iwata actually worked on that one (or at least the GB port). It's a fun little game worth giving a shot if you're into that sort of thing.
