Now this I am very, VERY interested in! I've got to ask - scale wise do these miniatures scale with, oh, I don't know, a certain future war game set in a bleak time around 38,000 years from now?

As these would be PERFECT for an idea I want to do...

Their historical kits are roughly the same height as Cadians and other heroic scaled infantry, but are overall thinner and not heroic scaled.
Given historicals typically don't have much armour it should be fine to use them in 40k, as their thinner proportions can be explained by less armour/gear.
I have some afghans that I am building as a regiment and they look nice along with the rest of the troops.
I ordered some germans but that order is stuck waiting for the spiders and dwarves, because those are still stuck in customs in the UK, with the intent of making another historical based regiment (planning to do some grenade fanatics and other interesting stuff), while some of the dwarves will likely become "rough riders" on top of the spiders, if I can get it to work well.

Their Grognards and Raumsjagers fit in better with 40k. Their historical minis are proportioned like historical minis, and will not blend seamlessly into a WH40k army.

I'd have to handle the figures myself before I made the call, but when they're painted, geared, armed and on the table I can't see the issue. I mean there's massive differences between cadian/catachans and kreigers, but they look alright next to each-other.

Cadian marshmallows are great because they look like they have very baggy(or is that airy? hmmm very comfy) fatigues, find a smaller gun and helmet and they'll look good next to most 28mm figures. I hate their helmets though, they are much too large. Catachans? Well everyone calls them baby ogryns so they have an excuse to be huge.

Alternatively make them a distinct contingent if the differences are so great. People come in all different shapes and sizes and if they are a distinct variation of the Homo sapiens sapiens, well it'd make sense after like millenina years living appart in very different enviroments. I mean they're not hobbits, ogres, dwarves or goat men so they're variation is pretty tame by 40k standards.

Usually I park in the back of the store when I buy a French Tease.

Looks like this kit could be useful for some Sci fi conversions. Some clump foliage on the goggle mask could make for a Gritty guardsman.

These guys just don’t have the WOW that the other models have given me.

His pointer finger looks odd, almost like he played one too many games of “pull my finger”.

I’m sure it’s a great kit, just not a style or time period I am really into.

I think what's odd to me, is the combination of a restrictive full-face gas mask, with throwing a grenade, and pointing. Pick any two, if you have to, although TBH the pointing finger looks odd with both. If you're throwing, you're not pointing. If you can't see that well because of having to fight in a mask, you're probably not pointing either? It's going to take all your attention just to figure out what's going on yourself. Telling other people what's going on doesn't seem to make any sense.

I guess the easy fix is that I won't make any minis who are doing those particular three things at once.

Oh I hope they come with a mix of lorica hamata, segmentata and squamata armour as they'd have in real life, instead of the reeanctorism of having matching uniforms of lorica segmentata (laminated plates) as you usually see in model kits. In the Roman army you had to buy your own armour, you were not issued it, a 2nd hand scale or mail cuirass (squamata/hamata) is more in reach of the poorer legionary.

Three Seperate Sets with Mail, Scale or Unarmorued, they say.

Buying your own Equiment was from 378 AD common, or before 104 BC.

Those Sets will be for the 260 - 378 AD Timeline

I thought you were issued your equipment after theroman army became a professional standing army, rather than raised from land owners.

Of course there would still be variations.

Nope, before the Marian reforms you had the privilege (to get any kind of political power you needed military service under your belt so that was a great incentive) if you were a citizen and you had to buy your own equipment, your role was based on wealth and age. After the Marian reforms you joined as a soldier and were given 3000 denari and a plot of land somewhere in the empire which was really good incentive especially to ghetto born Roman plebians, but you had to pay for your equipment. You also had to pay for your own boots regardless of how many they might march you through in a year.

Its also worth noting that some generals would pay to outfit armies that they have raised for their own campaign, especially so in Republican Rome.

What are the unarmoured ones doing? Sleeping? The Roman legionary even built roads in their armour. I can't see them being caught with their mail down so to speak.
But I guess kit versatility is versatility and I can't argue with the handyness of this addition when depicting other parts of the Roman empire and war machine(such as the 2 slaves to each 8 legionaries would have meaning a century is 80 fighting men and 20 support... yeah that blew my mind) so I'm going to shut up on the matter now.

not a bad light machine gun in the original French 8mm, but poor when modified to fire more powerful US ammunition

What Unarmoured are doing? Skimishers, Limitanei?

In the early to the early mid Republic, Military Service was first structured by your Position in Society, from the mid 3rd Century BC it was structured by Age.

With the Marian Reforms Equipment procurement was Monopolized by the State. Every Legionary got his Equipment from the State, which was on the Monitary Basic allready counted in your Payment. Only the higher Parts of Society in MIlitary Service procured their expensive Equiment by themself from Greece.

This Changed after the Battle of Adrianople in 378 AD, the State in the East First startet to reduce the Equipment for their Soldiers. From then, you must again buy your own Armour from State Stocks/Fabricae. There were official Documents which fixed that the Fabricae should produce enought Equpment to equip the half of a Field Army's (Comitatensis) Soldiers with Mail Armour. The Historican Vegetius laments that the Quality of Military Equipment was after the Battle in decline and that many Soldiers hadn't the Money for Armour, and many inherited Equipment like Helmets from their Families, which were some Generations old.

I will get a box once one of my usual OLGS stocks them. However, I must say Cherchez la femme. Where are the women? Their part in the resistance should not be marginalized.

Speaking of which, my parents once had Polish emigre friends. The wife was in the Polish resistance during WW2. Once in the US, she refused to learn to drive. My mother was surprised by this, and said something along the lines of, "but you carried a gun and fought the Nazis". The Polish emigre's answer was along the lines of, "My country was occupied, and there was a war on. The only choice was to fight. I choose not to drive a car."

A lot of people were unaware of the part brave women played in WWII.

Over the last ten years there have been many funerals in the UK where neighbours were surprised that the 'lovely old lady from across the road' was being buried with military honours and a Croix de Guerre following SOE service.

I saw a rumor there will be a second box of women of the resistance.

As I understand it companies are unwilling to mix men and women on the same sprue since the hands and arms won't look right.

Mixed boxes are never a good idea. You can pull this off with power armour, where the bodys might look identical, but not with civilian clothing.
And while there were some women fighting in the resistance, the vast majority were men. Don't get fooled by the woke hype the last years. Reality is not Battlefield V.
This does not diminish the achievements of the women who fought - there just isn't a need for some quota to fill. If there will be a seperate box - nice. Else, there are metall alternatives to get some female firepower into the unit.
