So i was looking at the new apoc stuff at my flgs totay as well as online and 2 things popped out to me. 1. The knight box is selling out online like Castellens are not 700 pts still and 2. Online people seem to be buying the chaos box like mad as well and it doesnt make sense to me. 30 basic marines, 6 bikers, and a lord? That doesn't seem too good to me tabletop wise as a deal (and i am somone who runs 2 x 10 chaos marines max plasma and 1 20 man chaos marines bolters only). Why do you guys think these are getting bought up?

Pass - it’s good for an army builder but for use in Apocalypse, infantry is the exact opposite direction to go.

A couple daemon engines - two maulerfiends, a heldrake and a soulgrinder/defile & the guy who buffs them would have been a much better set, I think.

I am, but only because I need a bunch more bodies for my 30k Alpha Legion army.

Because people like basic marines. Not everyone cares about how good things are rules wise. Rules change, models don't.

I bought a buncha CSMs already so I passed, ended up snagging the Primaris Box instead.

Most of the CSM in my force are going to be using older marks of armour, but I really like the look of the new kits, so will be knocking out a squad or two of Havocs with them, mix in some parts with the mkIII and mkIVs I have, and thinking of using some of the others as the base for Noise Marine or Chosen conversions.

Because Dark Imperium came with Deathguard, and Shadowspear came with Black Legion. Get a couple of those boxes, an Apoc Battalion, and then you just need a couple toy kits - whatever really draws you to the army (Hellbrutes, Sonic Weapon sprues to make a Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse soup army, Archlord Discordant, Warpsmiths, and Chaos tanks for Iron Warriors, what have you) plus Chaos Bikers as some pretty literal Hell's Angels makes me smile.

I've recently sold my World Eaters to start a newer, more flexible army overall.

The Battalion was just too good an offer from my local FLGS - £80 for over £160 worth of stuff? Win. A nice solid core to start with letting me spend other funds on fancy things like Terminators, Havocs and Sorcerers.

I think it's a really poor box, the lord and bikers are old models. Compared to some of the others it is not a great box.

maybe but the CSMs are brand new, so people with CSM armies, might be taking advantage of the deal to upgrade.

Thats true. Its no where near as bad a deal as the marine box seems to be to me (30 intercessors? Holy cow.... thats a lot of primaris), at least chaos has a lot of flexability when it comes to kitbashing into choosen or havocs, and i do love my doomrider group (run the old pewter doomrider and 2 x 3 man biker squads in most of my lists). Its just that for apoc it seems so poor, very little beyond basic bolters to use in the box. Even the primaris one has a dreadnought in it.

the primars box isn't a bad one if you're looking to build up a primaris army, maybe expand to a full battle company. I'm snagging the box as I'm working that way

30 intercessors after what, three or four starter sets with Intercessors?

I did.

For one, it is just a spectacularly good deal - I evn got another 15% off on top of it. So I just could not resist.

The other part is the model collection. Would I prefer a box of Havocs or Terminators instead of 10 CSM? Definitely! I am happy with what I got too though: 30 of the new CSM have me covered (most likely) forever, I actually need a well sized unit of bikes (and I can convert them using parts from the new CSM kit), and the Terminator Lord kit is always handy to have, despite its age. So 100% of the box is useful for me, and I got it at a great price. Win-win in my opinion.

Reaper Chaincannon, that's why. You can put 6 in 3 10-man squads. Make them BL and throw Abby in the mix and you have a very fluffy, good looking and even decently effective force. The bikers are just gravy.

Edit: talking 40k here, Apoc doesn't interest me because there's no chance in hell I'm ever going to be able to play it in my FLGS due to lack of space.

I went and got myself a box too. Starting a new CSM army, this box covers the basic troops tax and with extras to spare for convertions and stuff. CSM may not be the most competitive troops choice but they are great looking models and I love them.
