Oh, I'm also using it to test Lychee's auto supports, as I'd like to know if they're any good... we'll see >_>

Has he updated it recently that it popped up to catch your notice? I think Ashley posted about it in the HG thread. I haven't followed up on it.

I don't really know ^^. I just checked the redit to see if there was any news, and lo and behold, there was!

Ok, so first test went ok-ish.

As you can see, the design itself is quite pretty indeed:

...but (as I was expecting, really) Lychee's autosupports mar the print a tad too much, by default:

The rest prints beautifully, though:

Now, size-wise I decided to test first with scaling it at 48% instead of the creator's recommended 54%, because it felt a bit more accurate:

And a scale shot with the official minis through the ages:

I just might XD. RPG at least.

So, putting things in the right perspective...

That's a Legion AT-ST

Anyways, so Lychee's autosupports were kind of a failure (not an abject one, mind, it printed, just marred) I decided to test the old "doing it your damn self" way, and as long as I was doing it I might as well print the thing at the suggested scale (reduced at 53% instead of 48%):

(Tallarn for scale )

After priming it, you can notice the difference in support placement (I just yanked the supports off):

Big, but not ginormous:

Anyways, I've started to put some paint on it (basecoating, it's a pain >_&gt:

Looks great! And very crisp. Original Elegoo Mars at 20? I like the bigger scale as well. I don't know if it's technically correct but it looks better visually.

I didn't realize you upgraded! What's your opinion on the new machine? When did you buy it? Other than the obvious time savings, have you noticed a difference in the quality of the prints?

Some months ago (it was on sale for 200, so... ^^). In general I am quite happy with it, as it is mostly a bunch of quality of life improvements over the original Mars: the cracks between the body and the screen are covered with tape so that resin can't go down to the machinery in case of spilling, it has an inbuilt carbon filter, screen is mono and slightly bigger, which means faster prints and more space on the plate, the usb connects on the front of the machine instead of the back... you know, logical stuff in general.

The only thing I had problems with was the building plate... because eveything sticks yto it SO. VERY. MUCH. Seriously, it's not even funny. I've ended up sanding it a bit.

Quality wise it supposedly has a slightly lower resolution (due to the screen being 2k but a tad bigger) but I've yet to notice anything in that regard.

And it is faster, but not as much faster as you'd think at first (it's about twice as fast), because at the end of the day, the time the lights are on is a thing, but the time it spends moving the plate up and down is much more. So there's that.

Presumably the real benefit there is if the screen is only on 1/3 the time it means you can print 3x as much before it burns out... on top of the 4x expected lifespan for a total of 12x expected output in a screen's life. I more than half expect some other part of the printer will become the bottleneck and regularly burn out before the screen does.

Thank you

Well, this seems to be Gear month, so this week I've printed one of (well, two, actually, but eh ^^) Anvil Digital Forge's Light Mechs, with a combination of low and high tech parts:

And a size comparison with the trusty Hunter:

As you can see, size-wise is very much in line with a Gear, although with varying proportions. Interestingly enough, the Hunter ens up looking much more heavily armored, but the Light Mech looks nimbler.

I could see that at maybe an alternative pre-hunter prototype Northern gear from the past of TN! Or even an early Paxton prototype as well.

Mainly I can see what a professional designer could make out of Heavy Gears. It would be glorious.

Dude, you're a real monster of a print!
So many very small models. You just need to buy yourself a 4k resolution printer!

Haha, thanks guys ^^

I thought about getting a 4k printer, but... to be completely honest, the amount of detail these things print is already astounding, so I'm not in too much of a hurry to upgrade. Plus, you need other, more expensive resins, to get the full experience.

So... yesterday I did some experimentation.

I got hold of files to print a VF-1 Valkyrie on FDM at 1:45, with added parts for the Super version... so I am experimenting trying to see if they'd work for the (crappy) RRT miniatures:

First test wasn't too bad, a bit too big. I still needed to sand off mos of the dies of the legs, though. And I also needed to assemble a RRT mini, which is a chore in and of itself >_>

Still, not bad at all:

It was a quick test print for scale, so I printed it at 50 microns per layer, so it could be better... but still, much more detailed already than the crappy plastics. What a surprise, whoop de doo.

Priming it actually allows to see something, though:

All in all, not bad for a first try, but I'd like to find a way to make the details deeper.

...also, it would be better to actually print the whole model, because the RRT ones are fething gak -_-

Nice! In all seriousness, is there something that makes him Dark Mech or is that just because your a filthy traitor IW player? Even regular Admech is way down the body horror roborabbit hole imo.

Well, it's mainly a Dark Mech because the creators say it is ^^. I'm sure there's no way my loyal warriors in iron would stoop to affiliate themselves with that
