I'm getting ready to go back to the gaming table in person (hopefully next month the... <waves vaguely> whole Omicron situation will be remitting here, give how fast it has spiked) and I plan to GM a Lancer RPG campaign.

Lancer is a mecha RPG with deeply tactical mecha combat, and I've started printing stuff for that.

Right now, I'm planning to use 'mechs for Size 1 frames because I'll be using hexmaps and... well, because I have a lot and they look the part with the rest of the stuff in 15mm.

For starters I've printed for plates of 15mm stuff from TripleSpireWorkshop's "Space Conscripts" Kickstarter:

I... have printed a lot of guys xD

Now, Size 1 frames are more or less Heavy Gear-sized, so as I said, battlemechs look ok side by side:

For the record, Lancer units go from Size 1/2 to Size 4, usually, with Size 4+ being comparatively rare. These are the equivalencies they give:

Size 1/2: Humans, some small mechs, extravehicular activity (EVA) suits.
Size 1: Standard mechs (on the whereabouts with Heavy Gear's gears)
Size 2: Tanks, vehicles ( e.g. APCs or construction vehicles), heavy mechs (these would be equivalent to most battlemechs)
Size 3: Siege mechs, large or heavy vehicles (probably the heaviest battlemechs would fit here)
Size 4+ Titanic mechs, flyers (getting close to the size of scout titans, here)

Also, these would be the "base sizes" on a hexmap:

So, as I said, 'mechs I think fit for Size 1.

Also, I primed some of the infantry to get better detailed pics:

They are small, yes... but it's a matter of perspective ^^

LANCER! One of those rad games that I'll likely never get to but would love to play. Very cool to see you tackle it, 3D printing and all. Color me pumped to track your progress representing and playing it

Yes indeed, Lancer is an absolutely fantastic game, and it's mainly the answer to the question "how would a moder designer create a Battletech RPG?": incredibly deep tactical combat couple with an equally deep licensing and mech design system which allows the players to play exactly how they want to and that, as usually with more tactical systems, the difference when the PCs actually work together is incredible. I'm also translating the free part of the game into spanish, because it's so cool.

Ok, so test paint of one of the infantry models. Pretty sure these will work ok as hercynian rangers:

I assume those cars are drones? No way a person fits in them.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Hehe xD. Well, they're stylized models, so all bets are off, but there's an open topped version:

They clearly have the heads cut off when closed xD

The version that's supposed to be a troop transport is even funnier, as it would be BMP-like inside ^^

Ok, I finished the tank and the extra turrets:

I am overcompensating for the cold, so the layers are more noticeable than usual, but they also are more noticeable because I'm brush priming very thin and then mostly drybrushing and washing, so all layers are very evidently there ^^. The moment I use actual regular paint (like on the camo bloats) they vanish easily xD. It's actually fun to see

They look great. The tank models remind me of Advance "Wars, in a good way

Regarding the layer lines, if you hold one in your hand, can you see them that clearly? the first image you have to look pretty closely at to see anything untoward.

Nah, on hand all that's invisible. It's just in photos, but it's there still ^^

Great little tank, impressive array of turrets! Really nice dark metal too.

Tiny infantry are sweet as well, dig the design as well as paint work. Interesting inverted? bases on them, I guess to slot into vehicles and maybe into movement trays?

That's the idea'yes, to slot them easier onto stuff. The Ks includes a "ring" for lack of better word to convert them into more regular bases, but I have yet to print any.

Some NPCs done, again for the Lancer RPG:

Finished the set of NPCs... now I seem to have an army. I might use them as tau auxiliaries for 40k in 15mm ^^

...so now I've printed a fuckton of mechas from Papsikels to make PCs and NPCs ^^

(that and two plates more, not depicted >_&gt

I'll start with this guy, which will be one of my players' first ride, a close combat-specced Everest (The Everest if the default frame starting characters get, as starting characters at License Level 0 only get the GMS license, and they can mod it with GMS equipment and guns)

The infantry is honestly a bit on the big side, but that way it will be easier to handle, so I'm not complaining.

I also printed more bases and a first set of Size 1 to Size 4 bases, again for Lancer, so I made a couple of comparison pics for my players so they have a rough idea of what a Size means:

Size 1/2 (the infantry trooper, but also battlesuits), and then Size 1, 2, 3 and 4

And a different one, swapping the Size 2 mecha for a tank and the Size 4 bigass mecha for an infantry squad, which as a unit occupies a Size 4.

Ok, I've assembled a bunch of the frog mechs (FMP Savages, Watanabe trooper droids) and an assortment of fukimasa combat droids, all from Papsikels:

I think I like the look of the middle skinny robots the most. They're clearly differentiated from manned mechs in that regard.

The Watanabe droids are based off Full Metal Panic's Rk-92 Savage arms slave, so it stands to reason it feels "off" somewhat as an unmanned, human sized drone:

https://fullmetalpanic.fandom.com/wiki/Rk-92_Savage

The beefier fukimasa drones are the regular ones with extra armor plates bolted on, which is nice.

Cool. I wasn't aware of that. I watched Full Metal Panic when it first came out on dvd here but not since and definitely didn't remember that.

I am a big fan of the regular series and also (even moreso) of FMP! Fumoffu, which is the more comedic of the series by far.

But yeah, the Savages are very distinctive and I loved them in FMP, so... ^^

Anyways, I did a fast and dirty test paint of one of the Fukimasa "lankies" to see how they'd look in olive drab:

(How it started)

So far I'm digging it. Also, as I'm planning on using these guys as hercynian rangers mechas, I wanted to try and add some shrubbery and stuff to help them break the mech's silhouette:

Nice! Those are the skinnies i was referring to above. Can yiu compare them to various gears and other HG stuff? I'm guessing they're midway between a scout gear and FLAIL.
