You can't always do it yourself either, depending on where you live.
In Ontario, there's more than a few things that must be signed off on by a lawyer, including buying and selling/transferring land.

As others have pointed out, it is painstakingly difficult to avoid using their "services", because you do not actively do so. Any time you try to use or build credit, or someone performs a credit check on you, Equifax is one of three companies involved. You would basically have to live off the grid to avoid them, because when an employer runs a background check on you, a credit check is usually part of that. Once someone tries to run one, even if you have never used credit services of any kind before, these companies build a file on you.
So no, "I would say don't use their service" is not an option.

I think if the fine bankrupts the company, that sends a pretty strong message that they should NOT feth it up and plan/budget accordingly.
Instead, no message is being sent.

We just go to groundbook keeper, probably with some notariats help in contract, handle that and are done.

We just go to groundbook keeper, probably with some notariats help in contract, handle that and are done.
Some US states require it too as far as I know (but the business of Realtors often means that home sellers/buyers never actually meet the lawyer involved). Even in states where they're not strictly needed, the new and upcoming field of Real Estate Lawyers has been getting popular cause they tend to cost less than a traditional realtor and can still get a seller/buyer through all the overly complicated laws built up around American real estate.

It is what it is. You have to have conveyancing done in the UK which requires solicitors whenever you buy a property. Stops (low level) money laundering via property but is a pain if you are buying with a lot of cash, especially if it comes from overseas because you need to demonstrate where if was all generated - and if it comes from property sales in a territory that doesn't have a conveyance equivalent that can get very irritating. Really slowed down our buying a home this year.
In most cases, though, when someone has saved a deposit and gets a mortgage, you're paying a solicitor to literally look at a few bank statements and the mortgage agreement with your bank and giving them a several thousand pounds. Hence folks hating solicitors.

I've hired several, all from solicitors firms. Whilst the individual might not be, that's kinda besides the point in terms of public perception of lawyers.
