House rule it, if you don't like it. But RAW is index powers for index units.

No it isn’t. As everyone in the thread has ably demonstrated.

You demonstrated nothing. You havent provided any rule citation to back up your claims. The flowchart is RAW what index units have access to. I also have provided a FAQ that index units dont get to access codex wargear. Its only logical that this applies to psychic powers as well.

Let's see, looking back in the thread, we have

p.g. 186 new SM Dex

"before the battle, generate psychic powers for <chapter> Psyker model's that know powers from the Librarius discipline using the table below. (random or choice.)"

Also, we had

Codex: Chaos Daemons has this blurb re Psychic Powers;

"Before the battle, generate the psychic powers for PSYKERS that can use powers from the Tzeentch, Nurgle or Slaanesh discipline using the table below."

It sure looks like there have been rules citations to back thingss up. Psykers are being told by the codex how to generate their powers. It's mandatory, it's not optional. This would include any psykers that came from the index, as the codex does not provide an exception for them.

And as has been pointed out multiple times, the Index Disciplines are not the same as the Codex Disciplines, even if they share the same name.

That logic results in nice and cheap Plasma Guns for my Tacticals.

And has been pointed out multiple times, your statement is irrelevant. It has the same name, so as long as you are using the codex for your army you are subject to what it states, and it states that you are using the discipline in the codex.

And this is completely different from your example for nice and cheap plasma guns, so cut out the straw man arguments.

If you keep ignoring that it matters not a single bit that the disciplines are not identical; it only matters that they are named identically..

Also if you keep ignoring that psychic powers aren't Wargear.

You will put your back out if you insist on performing such unsupported reaches, my love.

Emphasis in original.

Scabiethrax is a PSYKER who "knows the Smite psychic power and two psychic powers from the Nurgle Discipline".

Scabiethrax can use Codex powers. All Index Daemon units can. End of.

Next time you quote something, quote everything, not just the part you like.

"...knows the Smite psychic power and two psychic powers from the Nurgle Discipline (see Warhammer 40.000 - index : chaos)."

You use the powers from index chaos. The flowchart doesnt give you permission to use codex psychic powers. FAQs override codex rules.

Good thing the FAQ was prior to the codex which then supersedes the FAQ. Nice try, bye bye

... If the Codex supersedes the FAQ then the FAQ can't apply to the Codex either.

(see Warhammer 40,000 - Index Chaos) was left off because it's no longer relevant and may as well not exist.

The most recent rules for the Nurgle discipline are found in Codex: Chaos Daemons.

An obiter reference to obsolete rules changes nothing.

My final statement: Disliking what a rule says does not change what it says. You are always free to modify or ignore rules to your liking, it is simply my personal opinion that any such modification or ignoring is unacceptable, in the end self defeating and ultimately causes more issues and/or arguments than just following the rules. It is also my opinion that "just do whatever" is a bad idea when on a forum dedicated to rules questions, as it negates the entire purpose of said forum if a valid answer to every post is simply "The rules are made up and the points don't matter, do whatever you like."

I've pruned out a whole bunch of off-topic nonsense, but it seems on a read through that anything useful on this has already been said, so I'm going to leave it locked.

Regardless of your given take on the 'true' RAW, there seems to be a reasonable consensus on the actual rules as intended. If in doubt, discuss with your opponent before the game.
