Almost every Traitor Marine who has been around for a while has either ascended to daemonhood, or has a conspicuously "corrupted" appearance (mutations, monstrous armor or weapons, etc.). Cypher is a notable exception. Despite being seen by the loyalist Dark Angels as an arch-traitor, and having been away from the Emperor's light for millennia, he does not seem to have been touched by Chaos on a physical level, at least according to his model and artwork.

This could be a hint that he has not, in fact, fallen to Chaos.

Or perhaps the Chaos Gods refrain from bestowing him any obvious gifts, to allow him to maintain the uncertainty about where his true allegiance lies.

Well, that's kinda been his story. Who does he work for?

He can be seen aiding Guardsman one battle, and then helping out some Chaos Marines somewhere else.

He was Voice of the Emperor in the original 13th Black Crusade campaign, but also Arch Traitor Extremis to the Dark Angels.

Personal headcanon of mine is that he is not corrupted, but that's just because it's much more interesting that way.

A lack of mutation suggests a purity of spirit and that the core of his identity is still an uncorrupted spacemarine.

I liked to believe he was the astral projection of The Lion, but that can't really be shoehorned into canon anymore.

Underneath that armour he's just two ferrets and a frog jumping around though.

Take a look at what I've been painting and modelling: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/725222.page

Kharn and Ahriman don't have any mutations either.

Not physical ones, anyway. Bet you solid money, the Warp has driven them both insane in their own ways. (I mean, we KNOW Kharn is crazy.)

Well, Kharn was nuts long before he turned to Chaos, sadly, due to the nails in his head. Ahriman is generally more subtle in his ways, but he's done some incredibly sadistic things over the years.

One story I would love to see would be one that featured the Fallen Angels, Cypher, and Be'lakor. The former are quite nebulous in their allegiances, especially Cypher. Be'lakor is a daemon, but he has open scorn for the Chaos gods and his own, separate agendas.
