When I recently tried to enter an Age of Sigmar tournament, I learned that most, if not all, of my models no longer exist in the Legions of Death.

This is because I was a vehement Tomb Kings player, and most of those have been replaced either partially or entirely with Vampires, Crypt Creatures, and others.

So, while I was looking for a new army to play, I was struck with a wonderful, awful idea.

If they can be given a blood-red wash, why wouldn't Khorne use skeleton warriors to attack his enemies?
After all, they're 100% GW models. The greater diversity of models in my Tomb Kings collection would also allow for greater accuracy when identifying a character, which is an issue with Heralds and Instrument Bearers.

I have other ideas than just the skeletons, but I wanted to sound this idea to an audience before starting any repainting.

If you play a Red Skelton army, you need to be ready with the jokes.

(sorry, couldn’t resist)

With an army wide counts-as it is going to be VERY hard for your opponent to figure out what’s what. Nothing is going to be what it seems. At least with one of the Death factions, some of your army is going to be what it appears to be.

Personally, I'd be looking at Kings of War or another similar game instead, keep the very characterful and thematic models as is, but play whats available and all that.

If you did turn them khorne, I'd say the two big things would be consistency (i.e. all the models of a certain type all are the same khorney thing, nothing else but those models are that thing) and similarity (bloodletter equivalents are infantry sized models with a big sword, chariots with guns are chariots with guns, etc)

You're going to have to go the "counts as" route. Now, not everything will fit but it is surprising what you can do with a bit of imagination. here are a couple of blog posts someone did on counts as for Cities of Sigmar forces, I'm sure you can do a similar thing for TKs.

I don't think the "Red Skull" jokes will ever hurt as much as the "Smurf" jokes at the expense of the many Space Marine players.

The line item replacement is very simple, made simpler by the limited number of models in Daemons:
Infantry: If it has two bony legs and something sharp, it's a Bloodletter. Spears? Swords? Paint it glowy!
Cavalry: I don't know if I'll be running any chariots of Khorne, but the Black Knights are impressive enough that I'd still like to use them.
Sticking Points: The Terrorgheist and the character Apophis are now "less useful" and "nonexistent", respectively. I was thinking about making the Terrorgheist a daemon prince, since that would add some variety.

Rolemaster had stats for him as a parody entry in with the undead lists. Sorry, obscure joke is obscure, and probably most people alive haven’t heard of him. Vaudeville era comedian.

What’s the point of collecting all those skulls for the throne if you can’t put them to work from time to time? Takes skulls to make skulls!
