I haven't been active on Dakka in absolutely years, but I've just bought a house and now i have a loft conversion for my hobby room. So, naturally i unpacked all those boxes that haven't been opened since i was a kid and found loads of 6mm epic Armageddon marines. So naturally I have decided to build and paint them as Iron Warriors, i'd probably never be able to afford titans or bigger super heavy's for my 28mm Warhammer 30k legion but at 6mm I can.

So after looking for some blogs or posts for Epic 30K Iron warriors, and coming up pretty short i decided I might as well post up a blog of my epic 30k Iron Warriors project, i don't really have an end goal, but im going to try and paint/build in 1000 point increments and update at least once a week, keeping a week behind where i actually am so i have time to update.

Here is a rough idea of what was in the box:

should be a nice start at least

Here's the first 1000 point (ish) lot, its around 800. One tactical tactical detachment, with two dreds and a heavy weapon squad (i think these will end up being iron havocs)

I also discovered that a standard sized hole pounch and some .7mm plasticard is perfect for filling in holes in the bases i used for my dreds

Good start! Are you going to use those classic Land Raiders like that? I found out they make great Spartans if you glue two together, fitting the 30k theme nicely.

Yes, i have around 16 of them sitting in some methylated spirits (iso) i'm going to get them cleaned up and based eventually, i hadn't thought of modding two into a spartan, I might do that, although i might also see if i can get some proxies printed.

Say if it's bad form to post pics to your thread and I'll remove these, but basically I sawed two together, sculpted new sides for them and stuck the extra lascannons on for quads. Results are pretty convincing:

Another positive: if you saw through them, you get a TON of fine dust that gets everywhere... but is pretty boss for basing at this scale. Profit!

Not bad form at all mate always nice to see cool ideas and tips. I think i might need some Spartans now, i wasn't convinced until i saw the pictures but those are amazing, I have a bandsaw in the hobby room that might make light work of chopping up landraiders too. also i checked out your blog, all i can say is wow, beautiful conversions and painting

So i based the rhinos to tie them into the force, for some reason they just don't look right to me not based.

I also found this! 6' x 6' cardboard city tiles with card buildings, promising

Worth mentioning too that i had to repair two of the dreads as their Kheres assault cannon barrels had snapped off and been lost during their cryo sleep, should work as lascannons or C-beamers

I was amazed at how quickly i could get a "basic" paintjob done on the 4th legion: black primer, silver spray, wash recesses, black shoulders, bronze trim. The real challenge will be hazard stripes at 6mm. So, that's the first 1000 (ish) done (ish), next time i'll be finishing the bases and details and then onto the heavy artillery: basilisks and tyrant siege terminators.

Hazard stripes at 6mm, you're crazy! I hated them at 28mm!

Best of luck to you with this fun project!

Nice, and it makes sense since Epic was set during the HH anyways. Still remember getting my box of Space Marine. So awesome. I loved Epic.

Yeah i think it will be easier to accurately portray the scale of the Horus Heresy properly at 6mm,

So today's night shift has seen me have enough down time to finish off the dreds and get started on the next 1000 (ish) points: a 3d printed Basilisk artillery detachment and a 3d printed tyrant siege terminator detachment. I managed to get the Basilisks completely finished, i think i'm definitely getting better with the 1mm masking tape and i'm really happy with how the basilisks ended up looking.

The next update will be the tyrant siege terminators, i've also got my eye on a pair of the new adeptus titanicus warhound scout titans so i might end up adding some reinforcements from Legio Krytos

Ive been quite busy the last week with the army so there a fairly big update this week. First off I finished a unit of 4 tyrant siege terminators, ive also been stripping a load of old landraider proteus' and I've started another tactical detachment.

But the biggest news is that the 4th legion has been granted reinforcements in the form of not 1 but 2 warhound scout titans from legion Krytos: Ferus Venataris (Wild Hunter) and Canis Sanguine (Blood Hound) I have magnetized the pair at the waist for ease of transport and at the shoulders to allow swapping between the weapon options. I really enjoyed basing these two as there is quite allot of room to play with. as a side note i happend to have three shades of an old P3 teal and the coverage after just two coats is pretty great, still allot to do on the warhounds, but ill get there over the weekend (heads are black as i held them by the heads to spray them, that will obviously be fixed)

I have also been assembling some of the cardboard buildings with the help of Poundland clamps:

and lastly some group shots of the army so far (only including units that are mostly finished)

Nice- the release of titanicus got me back into 6mm as well. i found a few deals on ebay for old GW stuff and some 3d printed versions of newer units but most of my stuff i got from vanguard or onslought miniatures. i found necrons from the trolls under the bridge guys. we have been playing straight 8th ed but just halving all the ranges and movement and it works out fine.

Oh and vanguard does have spartans along with alot of the FW units for both 30K and 40K in 6mm

this was an early start with some of my guard armored company, space marine inceptors/thunderhawks and the reaver titan-

this was a fight against 7K worth of tau

Your work is fantastic. All of this 6mm is making me nostalgic for arguably the best rules GW EVER released.

The Epic games really gave a proper feel for massive battles. Put 40K purely into the "tactical" "small scale fights" department.

Epic just was amazing. I used to play the predecessor to Battle Fleet Gothic as well. It was amazing to play BFG, Space Marine, then fight a 2nd Edition Battle (which was the scale of one of the singular fights in a turn in epic). It just.. wow. Memories.

Looked at all the 3d printable ships for BFG and all the printable epic models and I am just dreaming of massive epic battles now. Your Iron Warriors look excellent. You should be proud of your results.

Thanks very much for the kind words everyone, and its nice to see other people are picking epic back up!

The terminators are from cults3d "4TH LEGION SIEGE BREAKERS" the file was made by a guy called "thatevilone"
i got a friend to print me some at 6mm scale.

Vejut wrote:

Thatevilone also has some catphractii looking terminators, have a look on his page.

I have also made a start on some Sherrypie pattern spartan assault tanks, luckily i have a band saw. Its an awesome bit of kit for about £70 from aldi and is actually a rebranded Scheppach, it even has the Scheppach warrenty card and thats normally £100-200. The saw naturally made what i would imagine to be the most tedious part very quick.
I also used the spare heavy bolter removed from the top of the "rear Landraider" and added it to the front of the finished spartan to create the twin linked heavy bolters, just gap filling and left then i can get them painted.

Those look great! Switching the other bolter up front is a nifty idea, too, though I kinda like the very WWI style idea of having a gun near the other hatch too to shoot at folks crawling over the tank

And yes, sawing those buggers by hand was reasonably horrible.

Its been quite a while since the last update, my fiancé and I have been working from home so the hobby room has been pulling double duty as the office. I've finally found time in the last few days to tidy up the attic, get things organised and crack on with the 4th legion. I have also recently started playing battlefleet gothic with my bud (The Dreadnote), using the 30k rules from rr30k so don't be surprised if some Battle fleet heresy sneaks its way in

So I started by busting out the milliput and finishing off the 2 test "Sherrypie pattern Spartan assault tanks" I don't normally use milliput, but for gap filling at such a small scale I think it is definitely better than green stuff and you can smooth out or remove material by adding some water on the end of a sculpting tool or paper towel. After a coat of Poundland grey primer they really do look very convincing as Spartans props to Sherrypie for a great idea!!

I have also based and primed an additional: 2 legion tactical detachments of 8 bases each taking me up to a total of 4 legion tactical detachment's (160 marines), a few rhinos, 2 Tyrant siege terminator bases (so I can run 2 squads of 20) and a legion assault marine detachment of 8 bases.

Next update should be finishing off infantry, basing and more work on the warhounds

Been having a bit of an Epic binge myself, too, and man do those Spartans do work on the battlefield. They can wreck any poor tankers face with massed lasers before a horde of power armour surges forth to mop any infantry.
