I love these vintage Beasts of Nurgle. The new ones look stupid.

I don't use Beasts of Nurgle, I use Plague Toads under the Beasts of Nurgle rules. So I keep to the lore without ending up with a goofy unit I dont like.

Plague Taods are a fun alternative to the Nurgle Muppet GW is producing now. I thought about getting some but I have 9 Fenbeasts sitting around in case I need more than the ones I have painted up.

Last month I painted up my Vampire Counts army for the SquarHammer painting pledge. I've had most of this army sitting around for a few years, it was nice to finish them up and get them ready to hit the table. This isn't everything I have for VC but it's about 4K and a good start with plenty of options for playing average size games.

Here is the bulk of the army.



The shambling back bone of the army, 150 zombies some unit fillers in there that can also be used for other things. Most of lists I build have two units of 60 so that leaves 60 for raising.

Some Skeletons. These guys were easy to paint. Not a great pic, the miniature setting must have been off.



My Graveguard. Once again I put some old Battle Master models to good use. Battle Masters is suck a good source of models, many uses.



I made them with a mixture of weapons so I can use them as either Great Weapons or sword & board. I also think it looks better for undead.

I don't like the Crypt Horror models so I decided to go with Werewolves instead. Much better than giant ghouls in my opinion.



To go along with that thought, this giant Zombie Werewolf stalking through the graveyard is my Varghulf. Again I think the miniature setting was off on my camera. I like this guy and I think his half rotting look goes well for the Varghulf's Regeneration ability.






The Aristocracy of the Knight!
I prefer the classic Hammer Horror look for my Vampires over the weird half animal pseudo Nosferatu look of the modern GW stuff. A Lahmian Vampire for a hero level or possibly a stand in for Isabella. The original Vlad model usually.



A Vampire BSB with some modifications. I didn't like the hands hanging off the banner and the wings on the helmet were too much so they had to go..



I had a spare Manfred model so I converted on foot. He is much more survivable in a unit.



These guys missed class picture day with the rest of the army.

Some fell bats. I'v got some more of these and Fell Bats are not all that great so 4 will be fine for now.



Originally I wasn't planning on having a Terrorgheist in the army, mostly because I can't stand the giant bat thing model from GW. However once I saw this guy from Reaper I had to find a place for him. I tried to make it look like he flew up to a statue in a graveyard and knock it over for a perch.



"He's only mostly dead... mostly dead is also slightly alive!"



So I believe that's about it for now with the VC. I have some more Skeletons, Fell Bats, and characters for them. I have some necromancers but I like vampires better. I like that they can handle themselves in combat and cast, besides it't a Vampire Counts army, not a necromancer army.

Back in the day a friend of mine clipped these off the Claymore Saga Bases and put them on Cavalry Bases to use them in WHF.

In the US and UK, Claymore Saga was called Battle Masters. Yes that is where they are from. The game was made by Milton Bradley and GW together. Since GW made the models they fit right on GW cavalry bases not much clipping necessary.

Battle Masters was a poor game but an awesome resource. Allowed me to build a fully plastic Empire army with everything except musicians, using only this Talisman, Heroquest and Advanced Heroquest plastics. And this was in 1992.

I miss that army, it has long disappeared.

Thanks! Sadly no special meaning behind the colors. I just looked at my armies and paints looking for a color scheme that I didn't have yet.

They are fairly light so the don't say but I did use some Green Stuff just to be safe.

Last week I gave my High Elves a facelift. I bought a good portion of the army already painted from Ebay last year but I have touched them up a bit since they were beaten up a bit. I added some units, banners and gave everything the Minwax treatment.




This guy is usually my general as an Anointed of Asirian. This a model I painted this model. I've had it in my bitz bin for years. I believe he is a chariot hero from 4th or 5th ed. I think I originally bought it to convert into a Farseer, but now he is back where he belongs leading elves.



Here is my lead mage. I use him as a Lore Master of Hoeth more than an Arcmage. This is a model I got already painted. When I got it I wasn't a fan. I touched it up a bit and after the Minwax it has become one of my favorites in the army. The Minwax brings out much more detail and his book familiar adds a lot of character.



When I started building this army I had a hard time tracking down a model I liked for a BSB, so I made one. I converted him out of the upper body of a Reaver Knight and the legs of a plastic spearelf. The Banner is printed off the computer from the 5th ed High Elf book.




Another mage.




I don't use him much but I have an older Korhil model in case I need him.




The back bone of most High Elf armies, the spearelves. A 30 man block. I made this unit out of mostly plastic spearelves. I used a few of the old metal chariot spearmen as well.




10 Silverhelms. I made these out of a mix of 4th & 5th ed models. One model in the back is made out of a converted spearelf.



Two units of 18 archers. These are some I got already painted but I had to touch them up a bit and add a few guys and the musicians. I repainted all the tunics since I hated the way they looked before.






The original tunic for the archers had this horrible zigzag pattern free handed on them. I thought it looked awful, so I painted over it. I kept the orange but made it a solid color.




Reaver Knights. Again these are models that I didn't care for when I got them but after the Minwax brought out more of the detail I really like them.




I painted about half these White Lions and bought the other half already done. They only had a standard when I got them so I added the champion and the musician. Mine blend well with the already painted models.




Ever since I started playing over 20 years ago this champion was one of my favorite models. When I built this army I had to have one. Luckily he can still be found on Ebay.




I have the regular champion but he isn't as cool looking.




These blue Swordmasters were just about perfect when I got them. I only had to repair the broken standard and give them a banner.




The green Swordmasters on the other hand were pretty beat up when I got them. They has a lot of chips and scratches. In addition to adding the banner I also had to remove a ton of tack and stick the previous owner had stuck all over the bottom of the bases.




I love these old Wood Elf plastics. I picked them up to use as either Shadow Warriors or Sisters of Avelorn.




Some old Great Eagle models. Eagles have to be the best 50pts in Warhammer.




No High Elf army is complete without Bolt Throwers. I just touched these up and put the Bolt Throwers on bases, I prefer war machines on bases.




I had this Cockatrice model laying around and decided to use it as a Phoenix. I know the overwhelming majority will say to take a Frostheart but I prefer the look of the Flamespiye. I have some spacers made up so he takes up the proper 50x100.




This hero isn't glued on, so he can be used for various things, eagle, phoenix, dragon.





That's all I have painted for High Elves for now. I have another block of Spearmen and more archers. I also have a meta Teclis model laying around that I may paint up. I also have a mounted mage that could be fun for a Dragon mage or put on an eagle.

Yeah I don't exactly know what GW is going for but it sucks To me the best vampires will always be Bela Lugosi, Christopher Lee and Castlevania's Dracula and none of that Symphony of the Night BS, classic vanilla I love the classic D&D picture of Ravenloft, even if Nintendo did rip it off.

Small update on my Dark Elves. I finished up 20 more Spearelves which will let me field a horde of 50. Since shields are a rare commodity these days I'm going to conserve some and stick these guys in the back ranks.






I also painted up a dragon. I love these dragons and the look much better on the larger bases.






And of course the Dragon needs a rider or two! I made the first rider to fit in with my mostly 5th ed models but I also has an extra Malus Darkblade laying around so I figured I would just paint up both.





I also think it's fun to have corresponding foot models when ever possible.



Both the foot models and the riders need a wash over the armour but I haven't decided yet if I want to Minwax the entire army or just use standard washes. As things are there is no rush to decide since it has become too humid to spray the clear coat I use after the Minwax. So for now they will stay as they are.

Ah, Malus Darkblade conversion. Nice!

Alright time for a look at the Ogres. I painted these up in May for my painting pledge on the Square hammer Facebook group. I've had most of these guys sitting around since they dropped in 6tu ed, it's about time I got some paint on them. I had a lot of fun with these guys and was pleasantly surprised by how quickly they painted up.

Ironguts. The skin on a few of these look a little different as they were the test models I did when trying to decide if I wanted to Minwax this army. They blend in ok so I left them as is.



I use these guys as Mournfang. I started converting these guys back around 6th or 7th and added bits from the newer Mournfang kit. The mounts are all made from the old metal Rhinox from the 6th ed Scraplauncher. I used some jewelry chain to make reins. I did a little work on the horns for variety. I love how they turned out could be my favorite unit in the army.



A good look at their standard.



Ironblaster. This was one of the few models I did not enjoy painting, everything is just cramped in there. I had to build it without that metal jaw that goes on the front, that was just too cluttered for my taste. I have 2 more and I understand that that the competitive way to play ogres means having 2 or more, but it will be a while before I can bring myself to paint another one.







I did enjoy working on the Thundertusk. I was torn between painting him or my Stonehorn and the idea of spitting ice balls won me over. The Stone horn will have to wait until next time.






Anyone who grew up in the 80's will recognize my inspiration on the Sabretusks. I am truly tempted to rummage through the bits box and convert up a He-Man to go along with them.




For MY BSB I used an old Battlemasters ogre with some leftover Tyrant arms. I used the totem from the Stonehorn/Thundertusk kit. Positioning the hand took some time but I think it worked out well. The cleaver in his other hand feels a bit big at times but hey it's an ogre.



My Tyrant is the old metal variety. He is a simple conversion. I just clipped off the ends from his weapon and added an axe from an old metal Blood Thurster. I had to carve off some of the Chaos symbols and I was pleased with the results.




Slaughtermaster. I was never a fan of GW's butcher concept. I much prefer the idea of an ogre mage or shaman. The GW butcher is just hideous in my opinion. I have a few that are still in the box but I may have to do some head swaps and other work before I can use them. This guy was converted from a Maneater. I replaced the head with one from the Stonehorn kit. The staff is made from an ogre banner pole and an old one standard top. The other hand I made with a bellower hand and put an orc skull in it for more of a shaman look. The book on his gutplate is from 40K Terminator Librarian, with the eagles clipped off. This guy turned out way better than I had expected.



Well that's about all the Ogres I have painted up for now. They give me a 3K force to mess around with. With the exception of the Ironblaster I did have fun with them. They paint up so easily I will have to return to them sooner rather than later, and there is plenty more to work on.

As a proud parent I thought it would be fun to share my son's Lizardmen army. The way the world is right now these guys have become my arch nemesis and regular opponents. For his age and first army I think he did a good job. I give him major props for committing to painting before playing.




Templeguard have become the bane of my existence. I keep forgetting that they are Stubborn while the Slann is alive. He has a few different Slann to choose from but mostly goes with the old toad from 5th ed.




Lord Kroak and another Slann




A Lord Mazzamundi conversion I made for him. He isn't glued in so this also doubles as an Ancient Stegadon with Engine of the Gods.



He has a large assortment of other lords and heroes. We never found a decently priced Eternity Warden so we converted one.



Plenty of Skink Priests to back up the Slann. We couldn't find a Teto'Eko model for the longest time so we just converted one.




Monsters! We magnetized the weapons on the Stegadon and Bastiladon so they can be switched out as need be.








One of these Razordons was actually missing a foot and I had to sculpt him a new one out of green stuff.




Two blocks of 30 Saurus are the backbone of the army.



My son also has some 5th ed Saurus we updated with newer weapons.



Skink cohort.




A mixture of 5th, 6th, and 7th ed Kroxigors.



My son really likes Jungle Swarms. I didn't use to think much of them but that is a lot of poison attacks!



I think that's the highlights for now. He has some Saurus cav on the painting table and a pile of Skinks and Saurus, so a fair amount to keep him busy for a while.

I don't like the Ironblaster at all, it just looks silly, so I don't have any. I also prefer the Stonehorn to the Thundertusk on optics and rules, so I made two, though I used the Thundertusk neck to repose the second Stonehorn so they don't look the same. I also used the second seat for one for the same reason.

A bit of a preview of things to come. We are getting ready to move so it will be a bit before I can finish them but here is a look at my Super Cheap Bretonnian project! For a few years I have been thinking about using Battle Master models for Bretonnians. So being inspired by Commander Cheapskate from YouTube I decided to put my idea into practice.

I'm not a Bretonnian super fan but they look cool and were one of the few armies I didn't have. I wanted a decent size force but didn't want to spend a fortune. Let's face it WH prices in general are crazy these days but Bretonnians are out right ridiculous. As with my other armies I wanted to start with 3K. I had a few knights and infantry already but I started picking up more of the army in April and May and assembling in July. The bulk of the army are made from the old boardgames Battle Masters & Lionheart.

Here is what I managed to put together.



Mounted Damsel, Lord, and BSB. The mounted Damsel is probably the model I spent the most on. The Lord and BSB are the king model frkm Lionheart with Bretonnian heads.


This Damsel on foot was given to me years ago, now she can be used as something besides an Empire wizard. The model to the far right is a Paladin I converted from a Lionheart model with a Bretonnian head swap.



The regular Battle Masters knights make perfect Knights of the Realm. I used some Empire bits to make the musician and the champions sword. I had a few Bretonnian knights laying around and will use them as unit champions.



For Questing Knights I got inspection from a guy in my gaming group. He used old Dwarf great axes on Bretonnian knights. I did the same but with Battle Masters knights. Good thing I had several boxes woth of those Dwarfs. The champion I made with a Bretonnian plastic lance arm and the axe from the Dwarf hero out of the Skull Pass set.





Grail Knights are relatively simple. I am using the Lionheart knights for them. I think they fit that elite look with the Fleur-de-lis emblem made jnto their shields. Again I made a musician out of Empire bits. Even though all Grail Knights can act as champions, I thought someone needed to look in charge so there is a guy with a sword.



I'm undecided on on the horses for the Grail Knights. The Lionheart knights come with these cool horses that have the Fleur-de-lis made jnto the armor. I think they look cool and match the knights. Only downside is it's more Empire than Bretonnian. I'm going to think on it for a while, I may go with it.






For Men-at-Arms the Lionheart spearmen work perfectly. The tab on the bottom of the model was too thick for standard bases so I clipped them off and glued them to some laser cut MDF bases. A few extra bits and I had a command, still need a musician. Since they are grunts with low leadership and weapon skill I thought a brick of 60 was the best way to go.





Some standard Bretonnian archers. I recently picked up a command for the but they didn't make into the photo.



For rules I like Battle Pilgrims but I don't care for the crazed hobo look of the GW models. Having plenty of the Lionheart models around I did some weapon swaps with a pile of Empire bits I have laying around. I think the uniformed look lends more to them being an slightly more elite foot troop or shrine guard and to me that pairs well with their Stubborn rule.



Every Bretonnian army needs at least 1 Trebuchet, or TREE BUCKET! as the Miniwargaming guys call it. The prices online for a Trebuchet are out of this world. Even people selling recasts want $50 plus. That is a hard pass for me. I found this 3D printed beauty on ebay for $9. I made some crew from some 6th ed archers and boom ready to start raining down rocks.



I also scored Bertrand the Brigand and his friends for a decent price. We play 8th and I will probably stick with the 6th ed book for the most part but these guys did make it into the Armies Project book so maybe one day I'll try that. In the 6th book I'll just have them lead some skirmishing archers. These are just great looking models and when J found them for less than $30 I had to pounce on them.



That's about it for now, without Bertrand that's 3K. If I need to go higher or change things up I have more Grail Knights, another unit of regular knights, another 60 Men-at-Arms and a pile of archers. If I ever get around to them I could probably do 4K. The goal of this project was to keep it on the cheap side and I stayed well under my budget. No Pegasus Knights, the Fire Forge ones look good for a decent price but I have plenty to work on for now. Now I can say the only army I don't have is Tomb Kings

Hey all, it been a while since I shared anything. I was working on my Dwarfs last month so I thought it was a perfect time to share them. Dwarfs are probably my oldest Warhammer army, I started them and Empire around the same time in the early 90s. I have worked on these guys of and on for years. Last month I finished the Rangers, Gyrocopters, Miners, up dated the Hammerers and gave the whole army the Minwax treatment. I have probably collected more for this army than any other. I still have two drawers in my bits cabinet full of Dwarfs but this is what I have painted thus far.


The army



Last month I finally got around to painting a Lord on Shield Bearers. I had a couple different options. I have original Alrik model, The White Dwarf 30th anniversary model, Bugman on the Barrels and some bits to make a some customs. For now I decided to go with a custom figure. I had this Kazador model laying around and I really like it but found that I had other models I like more for a Lord on foot. Now that he is on the Shield Bearers I have a good reason to let him hit the table, he really stands out now. Plus when he was on foot the horn always smacked into things, now he fits in with enemies much easier.



Runesmiths! The old Crag the Grim model in the center is usually used as a Runelord.



I know in 8th ed the Anvil of Doom is not the most competative thing but I do find myself including it in most of my Dwarf lists these days. I love the old model! I originally painted this back in the 90s. I gave it a face lift and added some shields to the guards. These guards are awesome, if I could ever find enough of them I would make a whole unit of them.



My BSB is a conversion of one of the Dwarf characters from Mordheim. The axe is from the old Dwarf Warriors command bits. The banner itself is a collection of banner bits and the very top is the front of a Dwarf battering ram that I think was briefly released for 5th ed Siege.



For a lord on foot or a Thane I like this model converted from the limited edition BSB and an Iron Breaker standard.



I also like this to use this model for a Thane, painted many years ago. He was originally the Champion from Bugman's Rangers but he is too cool with his peg leg and eye patch to be just a champion, and there is also no reason to take a champion in a unit of rangers.



Last month I also finally painted up The White Dwarf from issuee 300. He has only been rolling around the bits bin since 2004, dude deserves some paint. I did modify the axe a bit. The original axe was a bit plain so I swapped it out for one from the old plastic command sprue.



I have two units of hand weapon and shield that I use as either warriors or Long Beards. They are a mix of 4th and 5th models. There are also a handful of figures by Kev Adams when he was sculpting for Harlequin Miniatures. I have a handful of the old Drunk models and try to get them into as many units as possible.



Great Weapons! Mostly the plastics that came out at the end of 5th and very popular in 6th.



I have 3 units of Thunderers painted up. Some are 5th ed models but most are these guys from 6th.



I have 2 units of crossbow painted up. They are a mixed bag of 5th ed metal, drunks, plastics, and converstions.



Back in October I cleaned up my old Hammereres, mostly adding details and painting all the gloves the same color. I added a few more models to the unit, with some unit fillers they are up to 40 strong.



The Hammerers even a have a Drunk of their own, converted out of the Dunk Miner.



Speaking of Miners, they were one of the units I did last month. Old metal command and Drunk along with some Skull Pass Miners. While painting them I wasn't sure how well they would turn out but I was really pleased with how the candles looked after Minwaxing.




Another unit I painted up last month was Bugman's Rangers. 24 strong being lead by Bugman himself. I really get a chuckle out of the guy reading the map in the front rank. It just cracks me up to think about a unit of lost rangers.



30 Iron Breakers all 6th ed. I love that these guys are just metal and beard no flesh to be seen.



Most of the Dwarf artillery is from 4th-6th ed. The bold throwers I am using are from 7th. I particularly like this crewman from the 4th ed organ gun. Just love the look and how he is lighting the gun with his cigar.



Here is a treat for you youngsters. The original Flame Cannon from 3rd I believe. I get a kick out of the two guys holding their ears.



Gyrocopter #1



One of my favs, the Bearded Barron and his blood read Gyrocopter!








I can't talk about Dwarfs with out mentioning SLAYERS! I started these guys back in 6th for Strom of Chaos to play as the Slayer Army of Karak Kadrin. I still use them the Slayer list works surprisingly well in 8th ed.




Some day I may paint up Ungrim Ironfist but for now the army is lead by a Daemon Slayer. It took some work to trim down the Daemon head so it would rank up, but it works.



I put all the Dragon Slayers on stones to make them stand out from the rest of the army.



This guy is probably my favorite in the army. Made from the Mordheim slayer, just a great pose and cool face.



This model is converted from the 30th Anniversary White Dwarf Gotrek, just one of 3 versions of Gotrek in the army. I gave him a torch in the arm that was holding up the white dwarf and repositioned the axe a little.



Elite slayers protected by magic wards The Brotherhood of Grimnar. Standard slayers with tattoos and a standard top from the limited edition standard bearer.



Slayer unit #1



Slayer unit #2, the banner is from a Bloodthurster head I had laying around.



Slayer unit #3, being lead by another version of Gotrek.



The Slayer army would not be complete without the Doom Seekers! Originally I wanted to use only the Mordheim Troll Slayer model, they just look like little buzz saws ready to cut through anything. Though as the army grew I had to add more and that figure became harder to find.






A friend of mine converted this guy up for me. I think he intended me to use him as Gargrim Ironfist but he works as a Doom Seeker too.



You can't play Slayers without a Goblin Hewer. It was a beast in 6th an 7th, it is even better in 8th with all these giant units running around. Even if not playing the Slayer army it makes for an awesome Organ Gun proxy.



Gotrek and Felix are always ready for a fight. I just about always include them in this army.

Well that's about all the painted Dwarfs I have for now. I have a few more things I want to add to them but will have to wait until some other projects are finished first. Sorry some of the pics are a bit off. I upgraded my phone last week and still figuring out the camera.
