Well it's been a while but I'm still at work painting away. Last month I got enough of my Beastmen finished to have them table ready. They took a little longer than expected and pretty much took up the majority of my painting time for January, February, and March, but it was worth it. I hope my Goblin Green bases don't offend anyone but I decided after painting Vampire Counts and all those zombies that anymore horde armies get simple bases. I don't want to spend more time on the bases than I do the models. Also as a plus it let's men use some stuff from my troll army these guys.

Group shot

Leading the Beastmen is Khazrak the One Eye. His whip broke while I was trying to manipulate it so I replaced it with one from an orc chariot. I also curved the horns a little to make them more ram like. The guy on the right a a trusty wargor. I love this classic model. For him I also curved the horns and carved out the weird plume on top of his head. I also extended his axe handle a bit.

Gotta have a BSB! I'm not much of a free hand painter but I was pleased that I could draw a circle as well as some primitive goat men.

Another wargor for when I need hand weapon and shield.

Beastmen need magic. My level 4 is usually this modified Morghur model. I love the model but don't plan on using him as Morghur much. I can't take credit for the conversion I got the idea from someone on YouTube. I did paint mine more like vines instead of demon tentacles. I think it really helps him stand out being up on his creepy vines.

This shame is converted from an old Chaos sorcerer. I just gave him a Beastmen head and added the back banner.

Here is another shaman. Just a simple weapon swap for him. The ax he originally had just didn't fit and I like the sacrificial dagger look. I think that dagger is from an old Chaos warrior sprue. To the right is my Herdstone. I couldn't bring myself to pay $30+ for what what is essentially a 50pt magic item. It fits the bill and gave me an opportunity to use this goblin hut that has been rolling around the bits bin for years.

Some Ungor Raiders. These guys were the test models for the army. After I painted them up I decided to go with a brighter shade for the leather.

I think painting the gor herds took the longest. Two units of 40 took some time. I have about another 30 left but it will be some time before I can bring myself to paint more of them. Even though they were a pain I am quite pleased with how they turned out.

For Chaos Warhounds I decided to use these giant rams from West Wind Miniatures. I think they are perfect for Beastmen. For some reason I really get a kick out of the face on these guys. Look for some more of these to show up in my halfling army.

For some more chaff we have two Tuskgor converted from the newer orc boars. Loads of people use these instead of the actual Tuskgor model. I have one but it looks horrible and is so front heavy that it falls over a lot. These guys fit the bill much better. I think the actual model looks like a demonic version of Pumbaa from the Lion King.

They are overpriced for what they do but man I love the Centigor models. These guys were fun to paint and I will probably add a second unit of them at some point.

Probably my favorite unit in the army is the Bestigor. 50 of them can do the heavy lifting most of the time. I put one of the giant rams in the unit to be a mascot. He also freed up two models so I could have an extra command in case I ever run them as two units of 25. These guys painted up a lot faster than I had thought. Actually having some armour to paint was a nice change from all the fur.

Extra Champion and standard, I forgot about an extra musician so I guys one unit is getting the ram for a musician.

Another of my favorites is the Cygor. Just love this guy. Unless you play the Army Project Rules these guys are way over priced on points but I would still take them even with the 7th ed rule book. I just love the idea of a couple of these guys chucking rocks around while the rest of the army advances.

This Ghorgon was fun to paint but he will probably be used more as a 2nd Cygor. I'm just more partial to the Cygor's rules. I was happy to be able to save this guy without have to repaint him. I put a clear coat on all my models to take down the shine and I guess it was too humid the day I sprayed this guy, he started to turn cloudy. Luckily I was able to use some Agrax Earthshade to get ride of it.

That was going to be it for now on the Beastmen and after 3 months of painting them I was ready to move onto something else. However on the least day of March my son convinced me to paint up some minotaurs. He wanted to see them in our games, I sure watch Kevin Sorbo as Hercules had nothing to do with it.

8 minotaurs with great weapons. I do have to admit when these models first came out I wasn't a fan and I know people are divided on them but I have to admit that after putting them together and painting them I really like them. They look cool all buff, like they are on Beastmen steroids. The Ivan Drago of the Old World.

These guys paint up super fast too. I painted the 8 above and this Gorebull in a day. To make this guys stand out a bit I changed the position of the arms a bit and gave him a double bladed ax. The handle is from an ogre standard bearer. I like how he turned out, has that "come get some" look to him.

It was a lot of work painting all that brown but I am pleased and it's worth it to finally have the bulk of this army painted and ready for the table. I hope you all enjoy, remember keep painting!

My Khorne Daemons are ready for the table top. I painted most of them for April's painting challenge for the SquareHammer Facebook group. The Bloodthirster, Demon Prince and the heralds were done this past week.

I made my Bloodthirster out of a Lord of the Rings Balrog. I gave him an ax of Khorne, he's metal so it wasn't easy to drill through his hand for the ax. This guy finally deserved some paint. He's been sitting on the shelf assembled and unpainted since my wife gave him to me for Christmas 2001 back when we were engaged.

This Demon Prince is an oldie but a goodie. He was missing his sword when I got him and it was replaced with an ax from an old Dragon Ogre. I think it works. I decided to paint him more grey so he could also fit in with my Nurgle army or be used as Belakor in a pinch.

My first Herald is an Avatars of War model. I repositioned the sword arm and twisted the waist a little bit so he can rank up. I also used some green stuff to put fur on his back to match the bloodletters. I'll probably use him as Skulltaker sometimes.

I'm not sure of the manufacturer of this model. The ebay listing I got him from said it was some kind of Adepticon exclusive. He kind of reminds me of Hellboy. I had a hell of gluing it together none of the parts fit together well. I had to clip and green stuff a lot of them. I repositioned the sword so he is testing on it. It was supposed to be upright but had no support and a wrist that was way too small to pin. I think he looks cooler with it blade down.

My BSB is a bit of a kit bash. The body is the Beastmen character Gorthor. The head is from a plastic bloodletter sprue. I used a Beastmen gor arm for the standard pole and the standard itself is from the 6th ed Khorngor. It all came together quite well.

These are my favorite Bloodletter models. Years ago I was given 20 of them and after some patient ebay watching I have enough. The were a bit more involved to paint then I thought but turned out well.

For Flesh Hounds I'm using these metal chaos Hounds. They match the fuzzy bloodletters pretty well and I have 40 some of them so need to use them for something.

Originally I wanted to make metal Bloodcrushers but I got a great deal on these guys. I swapped out their swords for some axes so they fit in better. I could have tried to put fur on their backs but got lazy and let them go as is.

I wanted a Skull Cannon but the plastic model is too steampunk for my liking. I've wanted a juggernaut chariot ever since I saw one in the old Storm of Chaos book. I came up with this. I tried a couple different things to put a cannon on it but nothing really clicked for me. So for now we are just going to say the juggernaut shoots from his mouth or the Khorne symbol on his head. I an idea for a 2nd one if that works out this one will be used more for a Skull Throne, but it works for now.

These poor Furies keep missing out on the group photos. They are actually the old 5th edition harpies but really work as Furies and are not nearly as difficult to assemble.

That's about 3500pts. I have another 30 bloodletters and some more hounds and Furies if I ever want to add to them but for now I need a break from painting red.

I'm working on some Storm of Magic and Monstrous Arcanium stuff right now. Last month I ordered some cool 3D printed Fimir models off of Etsy.

I am pleased with how these guys turned out. The seller markets them towards heroquest but I got him to printed them without the HeroQuest base and I am happy with the results. I really like these models, they have a nice old GW feel for me. A good amount of detail without going crazy. I don't know how often I'll use a unit of 8 but I have them just in case and for the price I couldn't resist.

Some preprinted shots.

I also ordered this guy for Fimir Balefiend. I think he will see plenty of action with my Troll Horde, Orcs, or maybe Daemons.

Here's a comparison shot, they match up well with GW models.

Well that's all for now, back to the painting table.

My son and I are gearing up for a 5K game and I wanted to play my orcs, so I needed to paint up some reinforcements. Luckily the weather cooperated for priming and clear coating, so I've been busy the past two weeks painting greenskins.

A mix of old and new on the Doom Diver. 5th goblins and the 6th ed catapult. They work and give it that goofy look that I would expect from crazy sky diving goblins, and I have other plans for the goblins that game with the catapult.

Every O&G army needs some chaff and wolf riders are among the cheapest. I converted one musician from and orc drum and repositioned some of the arms to make them look a little like they are shooting on the move.

Even with the wolf riders I needed more core points so I thought a horde of sword & board orcs would be great. I had about 24 of the old quest orcs and I scrounged ebay for some more and threw in some Battle Masters orcs to bulk the unit up to 50. The whole unit except the champion are made out if 2 models.

I'm pleased with the end result and glad to give these guys a new lease on life. So many of these old models end up forgotten at the bottom of bits bins.

The champion is just an old metal 5th orc. He looks close enough to fit in but different enough to look in charge. The standard is an extra Black Orc banner added to a Quest orc. The musician is a Battle Orc with the arm repositioned and a horn from the Beastmen Gor sprue added.

I already had the bolt throwers painted up for another project, just needed some sneaky gobbos to crew them.

More orcs means more Bosses to keep them in line.

I've wanted to get this model for a while so when I saw one for a decent price I snatched it up. This guys is heavy, a sold chunk of metal. The model just has a great look to it.

I did some customizing work on this guy. It's the body of Borgut Facebeater, the Black Orc Big Boss head and a right arm from an old 5th ed metal command bits.

It's been a lot of work but da ladz is a ready for some crumpin.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Very late information, but I think I should share this.

Today while looking at buying more Mantic trolls (after holding my nose first) I noticed these:

These are resin trolls made by TT Combat; and are part of the Fantasy Heroes line, a secondary fairly limited production mostly for Warhammer legacy and similar games.
They only came on the market in May of this year, and sell out easily, mostly due to slow production rather than high demand.

They are fairly basic, but frankly that is what I was always after.

Thanks. Those are cool. I'll have to take a look. I can do 5K right now with my Throgg army but doesn't hurt to have some more trolls waiting in the wings

I'm with you on the Mantic trolls, hard pass. Mantic is an interesting company. For the most part I find their models OK or just plain ugly. Their goblins show signs that they are getting better so maybe someday they'll redo their trolls.

The trolls are not bad, if they had no armour I would buy them no problem. I don't mind the little legs and gorilla pose.
The weapons are a bit off too. The zombie trolls are fine, but I have no need for those.

It you want more trolls for your Throgg army, Russian alternative has long done chaos trolls. I never bought any because I have no need for any.

I picked some up a while back. Its very likely that they won't see the painting queue for several years as I'm swamped with projects and it was one of those things that I thougth well I'm ordering a chaos dwarf army but I'm unlikely to buy these as a single purchase, so might as well grab them now.

Had a quick peak inside the box before sticking them in storage and they are really nice, no signs of anything that might make them a pain to put together. I'm usually not one for resin but glad I picked these up. Well worth it if you want some variety for a troll army, the old chaos trolls seem quite rare now. They do only appear to have one way to build them though, so no good for bulk purchases unless you like chopping resin up.

I didn't get a lot painted in July but I did manage to paint up two new heavy hitters for my Khorne Daemons. I don't like a lot of Steampunk in my Warhammer fantasy setting so the GW models for the Soul Grinder and Skull cannon are not to my taste.

This fellow will do nicely for my Soul Grinder. I can't take a lot of credit for the conversion. I got the model mostly assembled off ebay. I removed him from the offensive round base and put him on a rectangle. I also removed the Herald's weapon and gave him a proper ax of Khorne. I painted him up to match the rest of the Daemons and he is the extra muscle the army needs.

I needed a good model for a Skull Cannon but was having trouble coming up with one I liked. I had already done a chariot pulled by a juggernaut but it's more fitting for a herald. I was rummaging through the bits bin and remembered I had an extra Ironblaster and a couple more juggernauts. So I decided it would be fun to convert up and Leadbelcher who decided to give himself over to Khorne. An extra head from a daemon prince sealed the deal.

I've got some more bloodletters and flesh hounds laying about but I think the Khorne army is definitely at a point where I have all the bases covered. I've been working on baddies for a while, August might see some good guys for a while.

Some great models there. I like the drow theme

With the help of some Dark Eldar Wytches (I have a loads of those) I was able to bulk the unit up to 35 Witch Elves. When I add the Cauldron of Blood they can make a 50 model footprint.

Old 5th ed Cauldron will look good when painted up but will have to wait for better weather to prime.

Cheers, i just put up my Spider Army, led by Lolth herself, the majority of the army is also intended for LOTR games (Spot Ungoliant) and some could be used with Forest Goblins although i have not included any of the stuff with Goblins on.
I still have the COB to do myself.

It's been a while since I've posted anything but I have been painting away.

I thought my Black Knights looked kinda puny so I beefed them up a bit to 18 strong. I also gave them a proper command group. I didn't go overboard on the standard but it works. At 18 strong the loon much more menacing.

My Vampire Counts also needed some long range threats. In 8th there are a couple ways to get Screaming Skull Catapults into a VC list so seemed like an fun project. Of course I had to go with something more in line with the Von Carstein look so these classic Skull Chuckers were a perfect fit.

The High Elves also needed a boost. I got my hands on some nice 5th ed White Lions. I painted them up and added them to the rest making a healthy unit of 40. There is a big block of Phoenix Guard in the works but it might be a while until I get to them.

Currently I'm working on Bretonnians. The first test batch was just a Prophetess and a small bodyguard of Knights of the Realm. Most of the knights are old Battle Masters knights, which work perfectly for Bretonnians. I made some musicians and champions with some extra Empire knight bits. I decided to use the old Battle Masters banners, waste not.

Since the first batch turned out so well I moved on to a larger unit. These guys will eventually have a BSB nad a Lord attached.

I usually hit my models with a matte spray after I Minwax them, but I'm actually liking the shiny look on the Bretonnians, so I may keep them this way. Next on the table are some Men at Arms and Questing Knights. Well that's all for now.

Impressive collection of armies, I look forward to seeing how the bretonnians come out, I really like the 7th edition models for them with the bigger horses (and the questing knights with great swords!)

Thanks. Hopefully I'll have some more updates by the weekend.

The later plastic Bretonnian models are great but prices are through the roof for them these days. I'm not a Bretonnian diehard and didn't want to break the bank on them.

Since the end of February I have been busy working on Bretonnians and they are now ready for the table top. I've wanted a Bretonnian army for a while but I wasn't willing to take out a 2nd mortgage or sell the first born for it. So to save on money the bulk of the army is made from Battle Masters and Lionheart models. They paint up easy and match the scale of thw older models.

The army is a little shiny. I usually hit my models with a matt spray after I Minwax them. However when I was finished the test units the weather wasn't conducive to spraying. After a while the shine has grown on me so I'm going to leave them this way.

This is what I have done so far.

Lords & Heroes
[/url]

Bretonnian Lords is made from the King from Lionheart. You can barley see in the bad pics but he has a scepter in his hand that helps him stand out as the lord. I put him on a 6th ed horse and did a head swap. I like how he turned out but there is too much going on with those horses, don't look forward to painting any more of them.

The Paladin BSB is a 6th ed model on a 5th ed horse. I didn't feel like painting another one of those horses right away so he got the old style. The banner is from Battle Masters.

I used a foot knight from Lionheart to make a Paladin on foot. I did a head swap and added the falcon arm.

Damsel and Prophetess. Old 5th edition models.

Two 15 man busses for Knights of the Realm. The Champions are made from 5th ed models. The musicians are made with some Empire knight bits.

A bus of 15 Questing Knights. I am really please with how these guys turned out. The axes are from 6th ed Dwarf plastic sprue. I can't take credit for the idea, it was a buddy in my gaming group who thought of it. Once he showed me I was sold. I particularly like the champion, he was my idea!

For Grail Knights I used the Lionheart knights. The Fleur-de-lis on their shields was the clincher. While rummaging around in the garage I found I had a can of gold spray paint and thought it was perfect for them. I wasn't sure if it would work, but once I minwaxed them I loved it.

Lionheart infantry worked perfectly for Men-at-Arms. This brick of 60 painted up fast and a few left over bits helped make the command.

I used the same models as the basis for my Grail Reliquae. I'm not a fan of the rabid pilgrim look that GW used. I prefer to think if these guys as a well disciplined Chapel Guard. I took the Lionheart models and swapped out their spears with some hand weapons from the old Empire Malitia sprue (I have a lot of them). For the Reliquae itself I had an extra Tomb from HeroQuest laying around.

For some Skirmishing Bowmen we have the classic Bertrand and his brigands.

For a Trebuchet I picked up this 3D printed model. It worked perfectly and I converted up some crew.

I even made sure to put the old Battle Masters banners to good use. Waste not!

That's all that's finished for now. Hopefully over the next few weeks I'll add some more. Still on the painting table are Pegasus Knights, a brick of Bowmen, another Trebuchet, a small unit of KoR, and some more characters.

Alright some more Bretonnian goodness.

Another small unit of Knights.

A 2nd Trebuchet. It's another 3D printed model and I picked up a battered GW crew on ebay for super cheap.

No Bretonnian army would be complete without a unit of Pegasus Knights. I got lucky and snagged 3 of these in one batch for only $30.

I took the time to make sure they ranked up.

A couple extra Paladins are always useful.

I decided I needed a Green Knight, but refused to pay an outrageous price for one, so I converted one. Tried my best to make him look ghostly and have no heraldry. Very pleased with the result.

Here's the army as it stands right now. I have plenty of options for alternate builds right now so going to call them sone for now. I have a Paladin on a Pegasus I may add at some point. I have some more spearmen and archers but not seeing an urgent need for them any time soon.

BONUS: More Daemons!

I updated my Khorne chariot. I took off the two Bloodletters and replaced them with this old champion to be a Herald. I know it's supposed to have the Bloodletters also but didn't want it to look too crowded, so we'll just call them bonus attacks.

This old Sorcerer will make a great Herald of Nurgle. Maybe one day if I ever get my Chaos Warriors finished he'll be a Sorcerer again.

I picked up these Flamers dirt cheap because they were missing arms. With a few Skaven arms and Green Stuff they are ready to go.

I probably won't include many Tzeentch units in my Daemon army but I thought this guy would make a cool Herald. I'll also keep him around just incase my opponents wizard gets turned into a Herald.

I'm not a big fan of the GW Plague Drones so when I saw these models from Reaper. I repositioned the hands and wings so they rank up and to add some variety. I figured the Cathulu tentacles can represent the rider attack.

Last and probably least, some more old school Harpies to use as Chaos Furies. With these guys added I have 16 and can fly them in two units of 8. As a bonus they can also be used as Harpies for my Dark Elves and Beastmen.

I'm not sure yet what the next big project will be. I was debating between Warriors and Dogs of War but I was also thinking of some smaller project a couple different armies. So we'll see.
