I'm getting started with a droid army and have read they are pretty hard-mode. Whats a decent standard list I can look at and review what I may want to obtain?

They're new so pretty hard to say definitively. Grevious and Dooku are both solid leaders and I've heard good things about the upcoming tank. The bulk of their lists currently seem to be standard Rogers though. I'll see if I can find something more specific to work towards.

A friend of mine has been running pretty much nothing but the Rogers, Droidekas and Dooku. He seems to have good luck with them, but at that point its all about mobbing the opponent in superior numbers of the Rogers and loads of dice (even if its mostly White Dice).

Quantity having its own quality after all.

Most everyone seems to be running 5 or 6x B1 squads, Dooku and Grievous. Destroyers are fun but pretty over costed for what they deliver and the recent B2 release has not yet had much of an impact. The tank is delayed until the 20th and commandos are coming... later, at some point.

I started not too long ago and got a core set, swapped out the clones for more B1, got Dooku and the B1 expansion box (the poison weapon is awesome) and it makes a pretty good 800pt army.

how many B1 expansions do you need?

Of these ones;

I would say zero, just pick up coreset ones as they can be found much cheaper.

I would say its very much a question of taste, I will be picking up a second for an extra poison and OOM.

I think the sweet spot is 5 units in total, if you are not using maximum unit sizes then this can be achieved with 2x coreset droids and 1x upgrade expansion.

How you equip them is very much a question of taste, if getting the AAT I wouldn't bother with the rocket launcher, the sniper aint that great but both other options are good (did I mention the poison weapon yet?!).

Everything currently out in the Seperatist army is decent with the exception of droidekas. Max 6 core units is very common in list building. You kind of have to read your meta for what to equip your droids with as radiation cannon spam deals well vs. other heavy infantry lists and the basic droid unit can also be equipped with missile launchers for anti vehicle, but you can't do both in the same unit. Grievous and Dooku are both very strong. I prefer Dooku if just running 1 commander in nomal sized games and Grievous in smaller sized games. When Cad Bane releases, he will be a game changer as he should be a cheaper commander. I haven't run it myself, but forum chatter says that running double AAT tanks is very oppressive for your opponent especially if they are not prepared for anti-tank. The commandos release will plug all the missing holes in the army.

Cad Bane is an operative, not a commander.
Not really seeing double AAT being too much of a threat to be honest, with those and a commander thats a minimum of 515pts and they cannot score objectives and are fairly easy to avoid.

Having played a fair bit since my last post I would say that one of the key things as CIS is taking a bid to make sure that you are Blue player, there are a few of the objectives and deployments that we really struggle with (how much that will change with Cad and Commandos is to be determined). With chaining of activations through coordinate and the not great threat range of the most hard hitting units (both commanders and B2s) deployment options which compress the play space are by far and away the best option. If you are solely playing CIS then burning "Disarray" is a fantastic option. Objective wise then anything that involves mobility is also a poor choice and War Weary as a condition is pretty horrible (though Lok Durd AAT does love it).

My current list which is having moderate success is;
Dooku, Force Choke, Force Reflexes.
B1 + E-5C X4 (1 with HQ uplink).
B1 + Radiation.
B2 + extra troop +ACM.
AAT + Lok Durd + AT shells.

Giving a 17 point bid to almost always guarantee Blue.
Deployment - Long March, Major Offensive, Roll Out, Hemmed in.
Objective - Key positions, Hostage Exchange, Payload, Recover the Supplies.
Conditions - Clear, Limited Vis, Hostile environment, Supply drop.

The one change I would be looking at making is to drop the B2s for either commandos (Sword, Offensive Push, Hq Uplink) or Cad.
