Subject: Primaris marines in drop pods?

Is there a way to put primaris marines into drop pods? I've been thinking about making a list with scouts and drop pods. Deploying scouts on the battlefield and then deep striking the marines. I was thinking this was a great opportunity to expand my collection with some primaris models, but from what I gather they actually can't travel in a drop pod. Is there any way to have primaris models deep strike via drop pod or, failing that, teleporting in or something?

You can not use drop pods with primaris. Raven guard can use a strat to scout deploy them, but other than that it's footslogging or riding repulsor/impulsor tanks for primaris.

give it time and I'm sure GW'll put out a primaris drop pod...
I once joked about a primaris drop pod that was a bit more expensive but would also act like a fortification upon deployment, but thinking about it.. that'd be kind of a neat idea.

Wouldn't a primaris drop pod be limited to five models? If it could take ten it should be the size of a karybdis, with the appropriate cost.

A Primaris drop pod would be sweet. Carry 5 or so models and some kind of double auto bolt rifle or the frag launcher the primaris vehicles all seem to have. Maybe a couple stubbers. GW loves their stubbers now.

This could be something. I'm a sucker for Inquisition so adding a primaris deathwatch team might work out. It's not drop pods but hey, I'll take what I can get.

It's a little surprising. The ability to drop-pod was one of the things that made marines special in the lore.

No.
Primaris cannot use any of the old transports like Drop Pods (Land Raiders, Rhinos, Stormwolfs, Stormraven Gunships, Razorbacks, whathaveyou).
Non-Primaris Marines cannot use any of the Primaris Transports (all Repulsor variants / Impulsors).

Come on guys. Sure, a drop pod can carry Dreadnoughts and 10 man squads of normal marines (Centurions too, at least in 7th anyway).
How do you expect 5 Primaris to fit? They are much bulkier than Dreadnoughts. /s

You could always make a few deployed/destroyed pods as terrain features and just decorate the table with them as part of the normal terrain set up. Figure your boys got out of one of them once the game starts and they hit the table.

Primaris seem to be replacing the need for drop pods with Grav-Chutes. Visually less impressive, but mechanically basically does the job :/

Visually exactly the same: you put the models on the table.
Far more practical too (with assumption that 'grav-chutes' or 'drop pods' actually work), picking up just men from a planet is easier than picking up men and a crushed, super-heated lump of metal. (or constantly manufacturing new lumps of metal)

Theater of the mind!
The visual image of a drop pod barreling out of the sky and slamming into the ground is a lot cooler in terms of imagery than a guy softly floating down.
Though drop pod models are a pain in the ass to transport.

40k models arent true scale. Vehicles in general should be much larger than they really are.

Well, yes but my point was that a drop pod that can carry ten two wound primaris should cost more than one that carries ten one wound standard marines.

False Options =/= Real Options, as much as people want to believe it
Except nobody mixes weapons in anything besides Tactical Squads (who are in fact forced to anyway). Specialization has always been long in a game that makes you purchase weapons at the list phase. Also Primaris have a Rhino equivalent if you checked the latest models.
Also under your logic Deathwatch Primaris and basic Marine Scouts are more real Marines than anything like the Tactical you adore. Mixing galore there if you've noticed.

Strange, I don't remember Centurions, Bikes, and Terminators being able to get in Rhinos. Are we saying that if a Marine isn't wearing Terminator armour, they aren't real marines? Can't mix weapons? Oops, I guess that Honour Guard, Scout Bikers and Tyrannic War Veterans aren't "real marines". In fact, that makes Intercessors more "real" than them! Insectum7 wrote:Real Marines can ride Bikes and Land Raiders. Real Marines don't need flying tanks.
So, if Primaris get bikes, they'll be "real"? If I don't take Land Raiders, is my army not "real"? But having a flying bike or speeder IS something Marines need? Land Speeders (the many variants) and that Dark Angels jetbike - no sir, those aren't marine things! We haven't had "Good Old Fashioned Real Marines TM" since... oh, never, they've always had that. Silly me. Insectum7 wrote:Real Marines can give Jump Packs to their characters, and their Jump Pack squads get Chainswords. Real Marines don't use Stub weapons.
Oooh, can I add to this wishlist? Real Marines only wear Mark VI armour! Real Marine only carry boltguns and nothing else! Real Marines follow the Codex Astartes! Real Marines are the Ultramarines! Real Marines are actually genetically modified criminals! Real Marines are only what I want them to be, and I will only suit my own sensibility. There we are, I think the gate has well and truly been kept!

No matter how many times the whiners whine, Primaris Space Marines are still Space Marines. Simply of the Primaris variant. Funnily enough, my blood angels captain could not have had a jump pack. But he's also not a Primaris Marine. Figure that one out.

TBF I can definitely see a fluff argument of Primaris simply not fitting into drop pods, they were already a tight fit for regular marines! Rhinos as well. It is the likes of Land Raiders, which could carry terminators, where things do not make sense.

I would make some comment about how that's exclusive to such low-born Nostramans, but actually, my XIII Legion started off as the children of rebellious pre-Unification clans and empires, so I don't really have a leg to stand on!
Suffice to say, I don't *really* believe that "real marines" are only genetically enhanced criminals, but if people are going to use ridiculous claims to "define" things, I expect a degree of consistency. As with any claim of "Real" or "True", it can certainly feel a tad gatekeeping.
