Hi all new here. Looks like a great place to be. I'm trying to replicate the box art as close as I can for this captain. Can you tell me how I'm doing? Thanks, obviously I'm not close to
eavy metal standard and I wanted to challenge myself to paint the face instead of the helmet. And actually managed it i think with a decent eye pupil. Obviously this is a wip and still needs cleaning up in places. And some highlights more and basing.

Welcome to Dakka!

That is a really good start. Can’t really find much to nitpick. Maybe a little more blending on the cloak? But honestly, that’s much better then most people do, and if you can get an army of that quality, it would be a sight to behold on the table.

Thanks for such a fast reply. The cloak is more 'red popping' irl and how on earth do i shade cream? I honestly have no clue.

Honestly, you paint better then me, so your guess is probably better then mine.

I just went with more of a khaki, rather than cream. Little wash in the recesses, little highlight on the peaks.

The answer is probably something like start with a darker shade (something like a bleached bone) in the recesses, and then slowly add white to the mix as you blend to the high points, the more steps the smoother you get.

Welcome.

And other things Nev said. Looks great from here, man. The edge highlights are killer. Keep it up!

Here's some new photos with more work done. Also figured out how to make a sweep and mini light studio. And found software for processing levels after.

Looks more like real life than before in these
