I've been home bound as you all may know on disability for going on 8 months, what with the shelter in place orders (and the fact that my job closed its doors just 5 days before I was officially scheduled to return to work). I was both relieved and instantly bored. Now that I knew for solid I was going to be out of work and at home for a few months, I had to figure out what to do with my largely-stress-free, but utterly unstructured time. The good news is that horrible leg wound that was disabling me and not healing properly (or at all for that matter) has finally healed. The scar is enormous and ugly as sin, but after being hospitalized twice, suffering through 11 out of 10 pain 24/7 for 6 months straight, the scar could be an exact replica of a certain politician's face whose name I won't mention and I'd still be happy. So I turned to the heaps of minis I have been collecting for the past 30 odd years with the idea that SOMEDAY I'll find the time to put these all together.

Turns out, that someday was now. And all it took was a modern, extinction level global plague. Who would have thought? So, considering this is neither specifically Orks or Terrain-related stuff, I figured I'd start a new blog to showcase the growing horde of minis I've been working on for the past 50 days.

This isn't even all of them:

And this is what my work bench currently looks like:

I'll try to keep this updated daily. It's not like I've got much else to do anyway.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
On my workbench for today: build yet another servitor, finish these 4 burna boyz, this one new chaos marine and 3 much older ones, turn the three pylons into objective markers, and combine the rogue trader and technoarchivist from blackstone fortress into one unique mini.

End of day shots when I've completed anything.

Here's a host of previously completed characters I made for my Spacehulk campaign. The servitors are kind of like terrain as they'll be wandering about the derelict as sort of "mobile objective markers". Not entirely sure what I'll use the crusaders for yet, but the Lizardmen bloodbowl team are meant to be Chaos Mercenaries (from one of the Gaunt's Ghosts novels).

The tech, the admech guy, and the psyker will all be special characters/encounters during the Campaign.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And by "combine two models" clearly what I meant was "butcher the building of just one of them". WHY is the Rogue Trader with the knife leg so difficult to assemble? Those servo skulls swirling around her make pushing the last jenga piece of her body into place virtually impossible. So I chopped them off and the proceeded to mangle the other details on the model by using a flat headed pair of pliers to try to push her body parts together. Only so much luck with that.

Honestly, I think she looks better without the skulls.

A small selection of random "cast members":

Some close ups on the previous incarnation of chaos marine, plus after market head from Spellcrow, I think. Models used to be much easier to convert.

As compared to a modern chaos marine model

Look, I made a whole pile of gaunts!

These are all just for my Space Hulk/40k campaign hybrid, so don't expect rhyme or reason for what I got. It's unlikely they'll ever be a proper Tyranid army:

Some of these models are so old, their bases are made of the same plastic as the rest of the model. Also, I really despise the Hormagaunt models. There's no way to dynamically pose them without having them tip forward onto their faces. If I can find some buckshot, I might epoxy some under their bases. I dunno, we'll see.

If the hormagaunts didn't have a slot I would tell you to use a nickel it's the perfect size for a 25mm base. Buckshot may be too big. You may want to try some bb's they will probably fit better. I am interested in the color scheme you will use on the gaunts.

Yeah, me too. I have no idea what color I want to paint them yet. I'll take suggestions from the community if anyone has any suggestions.

It's too bad you don't have anything to do- you must be bored out of your mind!

More seriously, that's a nice line up of work. Some variety, but sections that can be done in chunks, so you can get zen with the hobby and zone out everything else for a little bit.

Looking forward to seeing what you start knocking out- big or little progress at a time.

(Dakka's a social club, after all).

Rock on!

Good show!

Of course, I forgot you might have been active elsewhere (and some of that terrain I even follow )

But I just want to see Orks .

Mission accomplished .

Everything does eventually. At the moment at least, the Shattered City has transitioned to the Shattered Spaceship.

Nice, simple servitor arm swap. The plastic is from a breacher(?). I had to chop off the shoulder and reverse it because it was a left arm bit that needed to go on a right shoulder socket. The servitor normally carries a multimelta or similar weapon on that socket. The 40k campaign I'm writing features quite a number of servitors, mostly as scenery but occasionally as adversaries so I have motivation to make as many servitors as possible.

Oddly, I've been working on tyranids lately.

Nothing much to see here. Just an update to show I've been working on something.

It feels weird to even have an everything else thread, but I do and here it is. I'm working on models for my Into the Jaws of Hell Deathwatch Campaign.

I bought these nurgle flies from a Blackstone Fortress box to specifically use as Psychuenin (warp wasps that lay metaphysical eggs in psyker's brains that hatch real giant wasps). I have no idea what color they are supposed to be, but I'll probably paint mine yellow and blue.

And these ghouls I got to represent Hullghasts. I wanted to give them a jaundiced look to their pale skin, but wasn't sure how much effort I wanted to devote on a model that is unlikely to last more than one turn against bolter fire. So I put a yellow undercoat on one and highlighted the other with Vallejo Buff.

And here's the crowd of stuff I've put paint on so far.

Thanks for looking as always. C&C welcome. Have an awesome day!

"Yellow Peril" indeed! Nice batch of work lined up in that pic. Cliche, but maybe pick out the Hullghast eyes in red? Provide a brighter contrasting color to make the whole model pop? Good as is, especially given their aversion to bolter fire, as you point out.

Nice to see a workspace that is even more diverse than mine!

First up, did some work on my Paycheunin swarms.

And ink washed the first two hulghasts.

More soon.

And then I highlighted, inked, and painted another 2 hullghasts. After the inking if the first two. I highlighted them and added details (like the rusty bits and the hair). I inked one in that brown-green camo ink that GW makes that I forgot the name of, and other I did an ink in orange/yellow? He came out looking like a deadly carrot, but the highlight brought him back I think.

Here's a million shots of the first one:

Then my friend the carrot:

The camo green dude:

And the poop brown one:

And then I highlighted 3 more with buff and white, painted the metal bits on em in rust, and selectively highlighted their hair before inking them blue:

That camo green again, but somehow watered down this time:

And pink:

And now those three just need highlighting before they are welcomed to the fold. C&C always welcome.

Loving the Psycheunin, you’ve got them looking nice and disgusting! Same goes for the hullghasts, they should probably see someone about their complexions or change their diet perhaps. Is the wash you use Athonian Camo shade?

I make up that "carrot guy" has been living under a chemical collection bin for generations.

I also went a little nuts and created a whole back story about their society and why some of them have rusty rings as jewelry. I imagine that they've survived an encounter with one of the hulk's nastier predators. Not even that they killed it. Just that it didn't kill them. And their elders/shamans/whatevers then marked them out for greatness by adorning them with this metal ring. I might give those a 6+ invulnerable save versus the very first hit they sustain. Just to make things 1% spicier.

Is the wash you use Athonian Camo shade?

Yeah, I think that's the one.

Or just a little wash of Earthshade wash will tone down that yellow, while still making him distinct.

My two cents,

Nah, I'm okay with the yellow guy. Here's what's on my desk at the moment. That's right, 50 cultists.

I used the packaging box from a 4 pack of redbull for the panels on their bases. Just something quick to break up the flat.

That should keep you busy for a while! Will you use paint or conversions to individualise the duplicates?

You know I hadn't really thought about that, but looking at how ...SAMEY... all those cultists look makes me think I'll probably do a little bit of both. It might be something simple like adding grenades to some models or swapping out that ridiculous flail thing on the models armed for close assault, but the Big Mek in me has got to change SOMETHING.

I'll probably start small, in batches of 3-5, until I can't take it anymore and just leave the rest of it up to my color palette.
