Would it kill GW to embrace some aspect of the Astartes' roots as space knights and make some bad arse knights with feth-off swords to purge the heretic and smite xenos with?

The master-crafted power sword on the Gravis Captain looks pretty wide to me.

In fact, most of the Primaris power swords look pretty normal compared to old Marine swords, to the point where hand-swaps between the two are trivial.

I'd like to see a primaris unit with chainswords, we've actually seen lots of power swords

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

There's a very angry Wolf Lord leaping around with a chainsword at the moment and the upgrade sprue for that faction has a couple. As far as Power swords, the phobos librarian has a pretty nice sword

I wouldn't even use lightning claws, but I'd love them to be an option.

Lightning claws used to be terminator-only and while they slowly worked their way into power armor models, this is a good opportunity to wind them back to being equipment for heavy armor like aggressors

I totally agree, they're so iconic that I'm completely baffled as to why they haven't been given to primaris. I was thinking of starting a custom chapter that's primarily primaris, but I won't do it until there are solid melee units.

I’ve used the swords from the old ravenwing sprue, VV relic blade, and a tartrotos terminator sword for assorted primaris sarges.

to be fair with shock assault, 2 attacks base the assault doctrine and maybe a strat or 2, normal intercessors can be pretty solid melee units

plus can't reivers all have swords? all be them really long knives

Salamander successor with Whirlwind of Rage, Veteran Intecessors, Chaplain with Exhortation of Rage and Vulkan's Sigil, Strength of the Primarch, Crucible of Battle. Two CPs before the battle two on the turn. Three attacks base, +1 for the charge, +1 for the Sigil (so 26 attacks for the min unit), plus every 6 to-hit procs a second hit and another attack, at S5 with a +1 to-wound, and every natural 6 to-wound doubles damage for the weapon. And obviously that Serg can be packing a flat D4 Thunder Hammer. It's a lot of resources, but if you can deliver it...

Because GW hates close combat, and are looking to outphase it or atleast turn it into a mere afterthought. Atleast thats how it feels with fallback rule, terrain rules, and primaris being ranged only (and Reivers are a joke so im not counting them in),

Eh Aggressors are pretty melee oriented now that they have A3 base but yeah more shooting units has been pretty fething uncreative for Primaris.

At least they've seemingly exhausted the 10th company vanguard range. I mean there's not much more you can make for 100 marines. They've got more variety than the 1st company veterans now....

I don't remember hand flamers, thunder hammers, Librarians, plasma weaponry, and power fists in Call of Duty, or them being tacticool.

But, come to think of it, I don't remember massive swords on Scouts either, the equivalent unit to the Infiltrators/Incursors/Eliminators.

So, unless you're implying that the Phobos range is all that the Primaris have (which would be absurd, and horrifically incorrect), I'm not sure how important those above units having giant swords is, or how it's suddenly a giant faux-pas.

Do note, I definitely do want a Primaris CC unit. Shields, preferably. Also, I'd have loved Reivers to have something like combat axes or hatchets, just something with a bit more oomf. At least their weapon has the same profile as a chainsword, and it's not hard to do a weapon swap conversion.

By shields I assume you mean storm shields? So a 2W, 2A model with a 3++? Assuming storm shields remain 2 points that's 19ppm on an intercessor with a chain sword. Looking for some baby terminators are you?

Storm shields, combat shields, boarding shields, I don't care. I just want shields, and I don't care how expensive they are in game.

Ah, so more about models than rules. Personally I always preferred the look of boarding shields. Not sure what price and rules for them would be in 8th edition.

I converted some Vexatrix Guard for my Ultramarines army from bits I had laying around. A couple spare Primaris Lieutenants from Dark Imperium, replace their heads with those from the Venerable Dreadnought, give them a Custodes storm shield, and a Grey Knights Terminator broadsword. They look beefy as all heck. Primaris with 2+ saves, storm shields, and giant power swords.

The thread exists for a reason. Even the Scout Sergeant can take a Thunder Hammer. The best a Phobos squad can get for CC is a knife iirc. Primaris design has more emphasis on "assault rifle" variants and modern military weapon aesthetics.

Aggressor equivalents would be the perfect profile to try and represent a shield with that additional +1T/W. I would think an Alexis Pollux kinda thing, with a Shield, Fist (or Sword, as the Custodes ones are pretty darn big) and a giant gun coming out of one of them or both!

Maybe. Personally, since intercessors already take design cues from mark IV armour, I'd like to see a cc primaris shield unit that takes aspects from mark III armour, like breacher squads.

Though another primaris unit that borrows from the hh units would make me a bit jealous that csm still have nothing similar.
