Subject: Tau becoming Necrons?

Just read an article on BoLS that has me thinking about Necrons undoing their bio-transference with the Tau providing the host bodies.
A near psychic-null race emerges in the last ~2000 years, located in southeastern/eastern Ultima Segmentum.
Silent King now has a possibly ret-conned agenda saying he's looking to 'un-mechanize' his race.
Finds numerous races, most with a spark of psychic talent, have taken over his galaxy; pariah gene is rare in most of these races but not unheard of.
He happens to return to this galaxy, in the southern reaches of the Ultima Segmentum after millions of years 'out there'.
Mad ravings? possibly...

Most fan theories about the Tau have them being made by Necrons or Eldar. Personally I've never bought the Necron thing, it seems weird you'd let your new bodies run around the galaxy getting shot and such.

My pet theory has been that the Tau evolution (or more specifically their Ethereal Caste) is due to meddling from Old Ones, maybe the last survivor(s). The Eldar represented an attempt to maximize psychic potential. The Orks/Krork were an attempt to create a cheap numerous cannon fodder race. The Tau may have reflected another line of thinking: pure focus on the material universe with dulling of psychic ability to try to prevent them from becoming prey to daemons.

I think i remember reading something somewhere suggesting the Tau were created by the pre-golden throne Emperor with help from the Eldar.

Not sure where as the warp storms that cut off the Tau happened sometime after the Imperium discovered the Stone Age equivalent Tau 6,000 years before "modern" 40K, well after the Emperor was enthroned.

Necrons are trying to become c'tan.
War in the Museum revealed Orikan the Diviner's ultimate goal is to transcend necrons into pure energy beings. And Orikan can achieve this ascension briefly when the "stars are right", which they were in the story, which is why he was a pure energy being in that story.

If anything I see the tau as necron creations. It's just how i see them.
[
They have a rigid caste society. The majority of the species has a built in total compulsion to obey the high caste.(Command protocols for organics.) They have just about no connection to the warp at all. They have high tech coming out the ass and their high caste seems to have an obsession with staff like devices.
Sounds pretty necrony to me.
I'm not sure why the necrons would want a species that dies from old age at 40 though.
At one time I thought the necrons would like eldar bodies. Damn near immortal, elegant, beautiful and strong in their own way. (And admit it, everyone here would like to bang an eldar. ) Seemed perfect. But then it was pointed out to me the eldar are ass deep into warpy stuff which the necrons don't like.

Early background around the tau clearly marked them as an uplifting by the eldar, creating the ethereal subspecies as a means of civilising and controlling the species.
There were plenty of Easter eggs, either comments by Eldar characters or descriptions of the first ethereal being accompanied by lithe acrobatic figures when they appeared.

That was Xenology which was an Imperial hypothesizing about that. As an in-character source it is fallible. It wouldn’t be the first time the Imperium has been wrong about something.

Wasn’t that specific inference spelled out in the notes by
Though there were various bits of evidence such as the harlequins abducting a queen from another race with supposedly a similar pheromone organ to the one the ethereal they dissected had.
Entirely speculation, but there was a fairly well written fan saga a while back on the BL forums which was based on the hypothesis that the Tau were engineered from Necrontyr stock, citing their short life spans and psychic bluntness. (In the story by a group of harlequins who got it from an old Old One gene bank not realising where it was from, but that’s not essential to the hypothesis)

Very interesting hypothesis about the Tau.
Weren't the Eldar and Orks created by the Old Ones to battle the C'tan/Necrons though?

Genetic manipulation of subject races and then a convenient warp storm fits the Old Ones' modus operandi, whereas Necrons didn't deal with the warp at all.
The actions of the Masque of Frozen Stars against the Tau also shows that not all Eldar are sympathetic towards them. Eldrad may be the exception rather than the rule.

They were. Unless you want to be really picky in which case the Old Ones created the Krork who later devolved into the Orks.
I'm going to ask this here to avoid cluttering the post with quotes: Does the Orikan plan of turning crons into discount C'Tan when the stars align sound like utter rubbish to anyone else?

What action ? Are you speaking about the (super good) fan fiction?
