The hourglass guy does have black armor... but people are thinking he's a loyalist version of the Master of Executioners (or whatever that chaos HQ with the axe is called)

I mean, she's literally praying in a cathedral. The only way they could have made it more obvious is if they had the Emperor himself materializing, throw a die, roll a 6 and say "Yeah, you're fine" and heal that wound.

The brightside is that this new edition looks like it's more of an 8.5 than a full new edition. It looks to mostly be cleaning up of 8th, rather than trying to really shake a lot up.
changes to explosive shooting against horde armies, tanks in lockdown, cover somehow, strategic reserves, and command points, apparently.
...seems like a fair bit that could get weird here. especially since the army i was going into is tied at the hip to or benefited from the current iterations of several of these things, specifically reserves and command point generation.
the stuff about E-codex copies might be the actual positive. but then with it comes more apps and stuff when im intentionally more into paper information... so eh.

I assume the Executioner guy is an elites choice otherwise there's too many HQ's in the set.

Could be generic, Non-Ultra Chapter Ancient, Chapter Champion, Honour Guard.
Which never made sense to be subfaction locked in the Ultra’s supplement. But PA gave to everyone with CP spending.

Apparently a play tester said on a discord this about the sword chaplain: " "he is like a Primaris champion and not a chaplain He is called the Judicar And he is a beast It’s an elite choice not an HQ And makes an enemy unit fight last""
Makes sense, now you could make a 1st Company command squad with the set if you add an Apothecary.

The two month delay really necessitated this drip feed. They want to continue a marketing push, but they need to stall a bit as well. They still have multiple PA books to get through in order to “unlock” 9th, plus the kits that go with those books, plus the non-40K releases. But they also have to hit their 9th date for the most part, because business.
In short, they don’t want to get out in front of their skis (as the saying goes) marketing-wise, while still keeping everyone excited about the future of their flagship universe. The only real mistake is the overhyping of each of the reveals when they need to trickle. For a while, once the stores open, they can sell us on new releases and not promises.

Aaaargh. I'm having a very frustrating time. Through a mixture of being work blocked plus bobbing along on the beautiful briny sea, I have seen nothing. Even photos on these Dakka pages.
The new website doesn't open on the work computers either.
Any sign of new starter boxes? Anything along the lines of Dark Imperium, Know No Fear and First Strike (was that one?).
As someone who rarely plays and therefore has no need for optimum builds, I managed perfectly fine with easy build Primaris and Death Guard to satisfy my GW urges.
Either that or pray for Warhammer Conquest v2.
Cheers.

Seems so. Though maybe the one with the giant sword is a new type of Chaplain, sort of mix between a Chaplain and the Emperor's Champion.

That would match the sword, it doesn't have a thrusting tip, so it would literally be an executioners sword.

This is a pretty hot take. Necrons have been of the most popular, if not the most popular Xeno armies since their 5th edition codex.
You're confusing them with the Eldar.
No, not at all. Tyranids have always been more popular than Eldar. They were easily the most popular Xenos race until they had a string of bad codexes.
Necrons have also been extremely popular since their 5th edition codex and were very popular throughout 5th and 6th. They only started to decline toward 7th and the recent issues in 8 with their poor codex.
On the other hand, GW has tried to do everything but update the craftworld range in an attempt to make the army popular. If Eldar were really that popular, they would have gotten a refresh of most of their model line a long time ago. As it is, most of it has been left to languish.
I'm gonna need to ask for some sort of source for that, because Eldar has more or less been synonymous with "Xenos" for as long as I've played.

That one immortal off to the side is odd for a number of reasons. For one, if it is a starter set it wouldn’t have a single floating immortal, for another why would immortals be getting an update when they’re passably new and a multibuild?

While the reveal stream may not have rung my bell, these army reveals are spectacular. The Marine models fill a lot of holes, and I very much appreciate the return of their gothic trappings. So my Saturday is now a rousing success.

Most of it looks massively overdone, imo. And why do the marines tabards have a loincloth part and a bit over the belly plate armour? Looks quite stupid.

The extremely raised midriff on primaris always looked weird, that’s just inevitably making it more obviously awkward.

That tall weird Necron tripod is the best Necron model ever. It looks alien and menacing in a way derpy robo-skeletons never can. This is the direction they should take the model line to.
