So I'm working on a Primaris-only marine army and I'd like to go with Deathwatch for fluffy reasons. I was about to order up the Deathwatch codex, but I just wanna make sure all of the Primaris stats and stuff will be in there? Does anyone know?

I haven't played since like 5th edition, so I'm a little behind and I don't really wanna buy 2 books, especially since they're probably gonna be redoing the marine book soon. My army currently has everything from the 8th edition starter set, a few extra intercessor squads, a redemptor dread, repulsor tank and then i'll be adding everything from Indomitus to it too, just wanna make sure i'll be able to use all my models if I go with the Deathwatch rules.

Also is it worth buying the deck of Deathwatch data cards, or are they gonna be obsolete when 9th happens?

At present, Deathwatch cannot use anything Phobos (excepting Rievers), nor can they utilize the Impulsor.. As to the Indomitus box, there have been claims that Deathwatch will have access to them, but I would hold off until those rules are actually shown.

Ditto with the datacards, as who the hell knows what 9th is about to do to the army.

From 'Focus Faction: Deathwatch' on Warhammer Community:

Before we go any further, it’s worth pointing out that the Deathwatch are set to gain access to ALL of the new units in the awesome Indomitus set. So, if you’re looking to reinforce your consummate all-rounders with a core of deadly Primaris melee specialists, such as Bladeguard Veterans and Assault Intercessors, you’ll soon be good to go!

The same article that glaring misrepresented the Corvus, and was flat out wrong about what the Watch Master does? Yeah that's an entirely reliable source of information when it comes to knowing specifics on the integration of new models.

Simply put, GW spent the entirety of 8th edition crapping on the Deathwatch. Do not take anything on faith. Until we have the rules in hand that explicitly say how those new models interact with Deathwatch rules, being careful and not spending coin is the safe (and smart) route to take.

The articles have been a mess because the authors have only been permitted to give us so much information. There is no reason to doubt the article when it specifically says they have access to ALL of the Space Marine units in Indomitus.

There is every reason to doubt blanket statements given that GW have made them, and broken them, before when it comes to Deathwatch rules support. And the authors arent using limited information, the WarCom team is flat out getting rules wrong.

Do I want to get what's in Indomitus for my Deathwatch? Yes, of course I would love to. Am I going to take GW's word that they've suddenly made a 180 and are going to start supporting an army they've explicitly, deliberately and blatantly neglected for an entire edition? Not for a fething second.

Again, trying to keep rules vague in an article has no bearing when they come out and VERY CLEARLY say that all of the Space Marines in the Indomitus box can be used by Deathwatch.

Again, what part of "GW HAS MADE AND BROKEN PROMISES ABOUT MODEL AVAILABILITY FOR THIS ARMY IN THE PAST" is too complicated for you to understand?

Clarity of the statement is not the issue. Its a track record of making similar statements that end up being lies that is.

Actually the article says the Deathwatch are “set to” get acces to the “new” units in the box. That’s a different statement from “Deathwatch WILL get access to ALL the models in the box”.

What promises were those? Did I miss something?

What's the point of you even replying if all you're going to do is claim you can't believe anything GW says? I provided an actual statement from GW, whereas you just stated that there were some 'claims' from somewhere that you didn't know if you believed or not. Maybe you should have answered the question and let the OP make the decision for themself?

Well In this case I will take GW's word for it and assume that I can use the Indomitus models in a Deathwatch army. They are gonna want to make sure that all armies can use those models because of $$$. I went through the little army builder app on the community site, and it looks like all of the units I have will work too since they are mostly just generic Intercessors and stuff. I have a few HQs that I'm sure I could do a counts as with, but I'm gonna hold off on buying the codex for now though and wait till the FAQs come out. Worst case I can just make a generic marine army and paint em black, I guess. Got a lot of painting to do anyway and between that and covid I don't think I'll be playing for quite a while anyway.

There was a rumour that a new marine codex will be released early in the ninth edition and the Deathwatch will be in it.

Id hold off on any print purchases for a month or two

I suspect the new hotness will do the usual 'if the unit contains x then gain rule y' the sheild guys will be handy as up till now i think the primaris teams have lacked a ++ save option, the melta adds a bit of anti-tank, not sure about assault ones maybe fall back and charge as i think one of the bouncy versions provide fall back and shoot, the bikes are a bit stuck as vanilla bikes just helped conga lines due to bigger base
but thats no longer a thing

also as mentioned elsewhere the new ones having one part arms make the shoulders a modelling challenge
