Most of us have multiple armies. It's just how the hobby develops. Crusade, of course, is a great new design for campaigns that looks like it's going to take you from a "start collecting" box to a full-on massive army. Playing crusade games has a serious opportunity cost, though - you can't practice for tournament games!

I will probably create two Crusade Forces. A Space Marine one, because I've worked on a custom chapter since coming back into the hobby in 2005, and a squat army, because Kharadron Overlords look amazing and I still resent that GW took the squats away all those years ago.

How about you? Will you play Crusade? If so, will you use an existing army that you have? Or will you use this as an excuse to start a new army, and learn it from scratch like playing an RTS tutorial?

I've just recently got to 1k of sisters painted so was going to use those, but felt it was a little out of the spirit of it all to use pre-painted forces. 1 purchase of Indomitus later and having 1 cron player in the group already, I guess I'm playing marines.

Nope, no plans to touch it, only one friend wants to give it a try. I generally like campaigns, but just have no interest in this.

Oh yeah. Crusade might end up being the only way I play from here on in.

Sisters are my primary army, and my story incorporates multiple Orders, so I'll have at least 3 Crusade armies just for Sisters- Martyred Lady, Bloody Rose and Sacred Rose. One mission defends the church, another oversees the Penitent Legion and the last Mission defends the progenium facility. While these Crusades are small, I can play larger battles by combining them, though it will cost me CP.

My next biggest collection is Chaos; lots of Slaaneshi Daemons, a start collecting CSM, and a squad of classic metal noize marines, plus all the BSF baddies. This will probably be a single Crusade, though I might split out the Daemons.

Dark Eldar- Haven't decided yet whether to run them as a single Crusade or split my Kabal/Cult/Coven into their own Crusade; having competing agendas is just Sooo DE.

And finally, my Genestealer Cult. Really excited about this: my Patriarch is going to Max out his Psychic battle honours. So when the crusade starts, he has no psychic power, and he's represented by a regular Space Hulk stealer. When he levels, I replace him with an actual Patriarch. When he levels again, I replace him with the classic metal running patriarch. When he levels again, I replace him with the classic Throned Patriarch. It's going to be Epic!

Once the GSC gets big enough, it might attract a hive fleet, which would be another Crusade.

Hmmm, I’m feeling Imperial Guard, plenty of scope for modelling battle honours and promotions there.

I expect we'll give it a shot. Not sure what force I'll use though. Might be a good excuse to get some of my Indom box onto the table ASAP....

Crusade looks great.

I'm doing a Primaris army with a custom chapter (Iron Paladins) for it.

Definitely giving this a go with my nids. Actually being able to adapt them on the go sounds fun. While my nids are painted kraken, i think for a crusade i will say that this particular splinter has been isolated for so long it has begun to formulate its own unique style of waging war, therefore i shall be using a build your own bugfleet from Blood of Baal ( just need a name now).

Oh, and from what i understand, you dont start with a warlord trait, nids hopefully can spend RP on the adaptions which may mean i can get as many as i can afford (Im thinking this sort of thing will be expanded when our 9th ed codex arrives)

I also have a small collection of as yet unpainted genestealer cultists that will almost certainly get vtheir own crusade.

Finally, my deathwing will be a small band of fallen hunters probably as my first go at crusade. It looks like a fair bit of bookkeeping so such a small force will help learning the rules (also, leveling up dreadnoughts sounds cool).

Leveling up dreads and characters does sound like the best part of the campaign as they've designed it.

I wish I had build your own options for sisters, but we didn't get any in PA.

Thought about using some of the wych cult ones, but Red Grief is just so good.

I'll be using build my own when I put together my CWE crusade- basically a bunch of Dire Avenger and Banshee Exarchs take the finest members of their shrines and seek out Asurmen and Jain Zarr as a rite of passage. Pure Aspect for as long as possible.

Hopefully there's an update to CWE in the future; we could use more plastic Aspects.

You do and you don't. Kinda.

Your Warlord doesn't have one by default, but you start with 5 Resource Points, and can immediately spend one to get a Warlord Trait. And given you can never have more than 5 RP at any time, and you get 1 by default at the end of each game, it is within your interest to spend some/all of them right away.

Hell yes.

I don't plan on starting a new army for it (too much Chaos already in my pile of shame), but I do intend to create a new set of characters and unit champions to lead my World Eaters.

I love that you can take a Warlord Trait on a character without them being your Warlord, making them more like personality traits. I plan on doing this for every character I add to my Crusade OOB.

For example, the Chaos Lord I've kitbashed for Crusade was once a lieutenant of a rival Khorne warband. He murdered his former master and pledged his force to my warband, and was rewarded with an inactive daemon sword and command over a small band of World Eaters. His character arc will be that he is generally viewed by his new followers with derision for having been "bought off" so he is determined to prove himself, and also needs to slaughter enough enemies to "anoint" his daemon sword and activate it.

He'll start with the Violent Urgency warlord trait (aura of +1" to advance and charge rolls) and a power sword, but eventually be given the Relic requisition that will upgrade the sword to Zaal, the Khorne daemon sword from Faith & Fury. Eventually, I intend to give him a Crusade Relic that ignores invul saves in combat, representing him finally unlocking the full potential of his daemon sword...

But of course, things might change as the Crusade goes on.

I'm really looking forward to this.

Hell yeah.

Perfect way to expand upon my indomitus marines, and will hopefully provide massive character to my models as I work with them to get them painted up.
Being able to include in paint jobs the deeds they have done excites me, as does expanding my collection based on what I feel is missing.

That's basically what I'm doing with it.

Until now the only Primaris Marines I've owned are the Phobos Libby, the Ancient and one of the Lts from the last starter box, and 3 Eliminators.

Now I've picked up 10 Infiltrators, 10 Incursors, 10 Intercessors and 5 Hellblasters. Seems like a good start for Crusade.

I would like it but the local wildlife wants to play it with matched play points which seems 100% pointless. I dont care for power level personally, but I dont see any point in using points for it.

I sold all of my 40k except for necrons (which I could not give away because their rules were horrible in 8th). So it will depend on if necrons continue to be fetid poop in a bucket for this edition as well.

I thought I had wanted to play with points, but once I got a look at it, and the way you can use requisition points to change your load out, or beef up your squad, everything clicked. Maybe once they've got the book in their hand, they might rethink it.

Yeah I hadn't thought about the reinforcing/rearming side of things.

Yeah, ok, so maybe points won't work.

I hope so. I'll be moving home in the next few months, and Nurgle willing, this pandemic will have eased off enough to make gaming a realistic prospect once again. I'll likely only be able to convince one other friend to play, with the slim possibility of a third. They both have assembled but unpainted Start Collecting! boxes of Chaos Space Marines and Dark Eldar respectively to pit against my Dark Angels, but seem to lack the motivation to paint them. My first objective is to motivate them to get painting. I hope to achieve this with a slow grow Kill Team campaign, starting with as few as three models per player. My hope is that this is a humble enough goal to actually be achievable, while also being enough of an inspiration to motivate them to continue painting one model each week. If at the end of the Kill Team campaign, everyone has managed to paint an entire unit, and one character, I think we'll have enough to kick start a 40k Crusade.

I'll start out with just 2 armies but 3 diff crusades;
Salamanders - 1 all Primaris & 1 Mixed like I've run since getting back into game in 8th
Bloody Rose - Started them w boxed set so see where it leads them.

My other armies are on the back burner for a while so my focus will only be on the two for crusade.

Depending on how things go, Metallica & Ynarri might crusade after all.

Yeah, with SoB the Hospitallers and Dialogi are separate orders from the battle sisters, and they've always been an entire Order represented by a single model. Now, the WL traits and Battle Honours create granularity within the Order. For example, at Green and Blooded, you've got a dialogus- build her without the hover podium and back pack book. Once she's Battle Hardened, she earns her back pack book and the title Dialogus Superior; once she's legendary, she earns the podium and the title Cannoness Dialogus. Every time you scale up, you can add to the existing model, or if you want more than one Dialogus, you can build another kit up to superior level and keep the old one to represent the next green recruit.

I love the way experience creates a hierarchy; I was always upset that platoon commanders weren't HQ because there wasn't enough granularity in the HQ. With Crusade, you've got Company Commanders who are merely blooded, and there might be many. But you've also got Company Commanders who are Legendary; they're likely quite rare. With that hierarchy and stratification, you don't need Platoon Commanders to be HQ choices.

I'll definitely be playing crusade, and it's by far the biggest aspect of 9th edition that has my playgroup foaming at the mouth to get going. I'll be holding a twice a month gaming group at my house and I typically buy pizza or something, so we will get like 6 to 8 players there hanging out, having fun, and playing a few games while we all goof off an act like the oldest damn 12-year-olds you have ever seen. (this done while my wife rolls her eyes at me and reminds me that I'm actually 42).

Were all really excited to see how the XP system builds on units, and while we are a bit concerned about bookkeeping, we are all pretty comfortable and are a reasonably tight-knit group, so we are keeping this fun and light-hearted.

I am going to enter my Landraider Excelsior as my HQ (yeah, my opponents are ok with it) for my blood angels since the narrative is where it lives now. I'll also be running space wolves, Tyranids, and chaos demons/marines. We are all pretty excited to see how it works out, and we are even going to tie it into some aspects from the RPG that was out a few years ago so we can things to do in our group chat in between games (and potentially earn something cool, like a bonus that I have yet to figure out).

Needless to say, were pretty pumped for it!

Yep, Crusade is one of the only things pulling me into the new edition (After seeing the points changes) So as long as power doesn't get a massive rescale, I've l already got my force planned out for the first 50 power level and a few increases beyond that.

Crusade campaign is starting here so...yes.

Since I like to use any campaign/league/tournament as painting motivator and sisters of battle are fairly well served painting wise I will instead use necrons since they get plenty of new stuff to paint now.
