I was intrigued by this and tempted in a nostalgic way, but find the models a bit meh. Shame. Be interesting to see how the community paint them up and stuff.

Hiding behind terrain

Mine has arrived and Ive opened it up and gave it a once over looking for any defects.

The Game System has 1 terribly miscast white dice with 6 sides with half the details missing. Detail on about 5 open doorways is sort of a shallow melted look but will be ok. Torture Wrack not glued correctly to bench so its raised a millimeter on 1 side but no bigdeal.
Kellars Keep looks to be perfect.
Return of the Witch Lord has 1 skeleton with a unglued shoulder and a 2nd that is warped or glued with its shoulder at wrong angle.
Mythic Box has a hammer orc with an unglued shoulder and 2 white dice with missing detail on a couple sides.

The dice are my only real annoyance but I'll live with it. You can still tell what they are and only 1 is really bad. Overall I really like what I see.

Does anyone know if the new rules are different from the original? I ask as the original was aged 9 to Adult but this new version is 14+.

Is the new one somehow more complex so that my 10 year old nephew will struggle?

Cheers

Mostly the same as the original US rules which aren't much different to the UK rules. The 14+ is so that they don't have to have it meet the safety tests for children's toys not to do with the difficulty of the rules. Children's toys, at least under EU law, are those suitable for under 14s that's why you'll see 14+ on products that are in theory suitable for younger ages.

You'll be fine. My 10 and 8 year olds are not hardcore gamers and they're having a great time with HQ.

It really is an ideal family game.

Just got the chance to (re)play it tonight with my youngest son - he's 17, but autistic. He took to it straight away, and didn't seem to mind too much when he got clobbered and killed.

We were using the rules from the latest version, but I'd found the solo quests from the Barbarian expansion and were using those maps since he was playing solo. While it's been 30 or so years since I last played, comparing the old and new rules I didn't see anything different. And comparing the quest books from the main game, they look to be exactly the same (including the annoying 6th quest...)

Yeah age guidelines these days are more about covering the toymakers in case of a lawsuit and not really a guideline for who will enjoy a game. 14+ is probably more a function of the number of small parts than complexity of rules.

I was hoping to post this in the original HQ25 thread so as not to cross over here but it’s locked.

Hasbro has privately responded to several backers on Twitter and Facebook regarding the Ludofilia exchange. It was initially thought to be a fake message as there is a lot of misinformation and some are deliberately posting fake info but several people have now received the same response and the Darkstone forum seem confident that it’s real now. Hasbro still haven’t posted anything publicly.

Hasbro and Ludofilia have agreed to a one-time deal for Ludofilia to purchase a limited amount of English-language HeroQuest games. Ludofilia will be using these games to fulfill a past, independent crowdfunding campaign, which Hasbro was in no way affiliated with. Backers of their crowdfunding campaign will have the option to receive the Hasbro English version of the HeroQuest game or Ludofilia’s forthcoming, rebranded game. All fulfilment will be handled by Ludofilia.

Still no indication of how to do the exchange as the links don’t work now.

More Info on the exchange it’s live now. - log into your Gamezone account and Canje HQ (exchange) will appear at the top of the categories menu - but there are catches - of course there are!

Exchange costs €20.80
Must be claimed by 19th December after which you will get Tseuquest
No extra charge for shipping - (select the GZ Canje shipping option).
Additional content/add ons excluded from exchange
English version only

Spoiler:
Optionally, Backers and pre-sales will have the opportunity to exchange their reserved copies of the Ludofilia game for copies of the Hasbro version of Heroquest:MAXIMUM 1 COPY PER BACKER.
-Obviously they can choose not to receive the Hasbro game, receiving instead our game renamed as TseuQuesT.
-Ludofilia has a limited number of Hasbro games available to Backers and pre-sale customers, exclusively.

-This exchange offer ONLY for crowdfunding backers and pre-sales, for a limited time, until December 19, 2021, any possible combination of redemption may be requested.
-Anyone who does not respond before the deadline or who does not request any type of exchange, will receive what they already have reserved but renamed as TseuQuesT.

-Hasbro Heroquests are NOT available for sale to the general public through our online store. Neither Ludofilia nor Gamezone Miniatures are going to sell copies to the public.
-Each box of the Hasbro Heroquest that is redeemed carries an additional cost of 20.80 euros, per unit.
-Ludofilia will receive Heroquest copies from Hasbro at its Seville facilities.
-Shipping the Hasbro Heroquest from Seville to the address of each backer / pre-sale client does not entail any extra charge, shipping costs that were already paid will be used at the time.
-Any additional content / addons that have been reserved are excluded from any type of exchange.
-All copies of the Hasbro Heroquest will be sent in English.
-EXCHANGE requests that meet the prerequisites will be dealt with, in strict order of arrival (first come first serve) until the end of Heroquest stock received from Hasbro.

-Any exchange that does not meet “MAXIMUM 1 COPY PER BACKER” requirement will be canceled.

I resent the €20 charge and I must be mad but I’ll take the chance it’s paid by PayPal so I can dispute within 180 days. At the end of the day I was in for €110 on GZ, Hasbro HQ is €120 so I’m down a tenner if it pans out (okay plus all the extras I forfeit but so be it - have I convinced myself yet )

Thanks so much for bringing that to attention DaveC

Wow I have just checked my Gamezone account and that was back in 2014 for the Heroquest boxset, crikey. Plus the 31 euros for shipping.

Like you it might well be a case of "fool me twice" but I've paid the money for the exchange and just see what happens. That is handy with Paypal that you can claim back, so hopefully this time it is a genuine item sale.

And yes - Wow, it really was 7 years ago that I paid the postage for the original Kickstarter stuff.

So I can't use that €30 that I seem to have donated GZ out of the goodness of my heart...

Oh well, in for a penny, in for a pound.

At least if this turns into one final screw-over, I'll be able to rage about it on here with you guys!

Just to be clear, y'all know that if this don't work out the rest of use have every right to point and laugh.

I mean really, at least Palladium produced half the game they promised.

That sounds fair.

Although, I wouldn't be so generous to refer to Uncle Kev's attempt as half a game, more like a third.

Absolutely deserve to be mocked if I lose the further £20 on top of the money from back in 2014!

I thought it was worth a gamble, and hopefully Paypal will allow the money to be reclaimed if we get to Feb/March and still no sign of the game.

Do you mean for the P&P?

I assume that will just be used for the postage for the Hasbro game if you have chosen to switch, or the 'TseuQuest' option.

Out of interest - is anyone actually waiting for that version of the game rather than just exchanging?

Its just a shame we won't see a follow up for Space Crusade. While its great to see Heroquest return to retail, I have very fond memories of when I received 'Crusade as a birthday present.

It was then a year or two later that the girl next door introduced me to Heroquest!

Most appreciated! My original assessment did lack a certain je ne sais quoi.

I did think that looking at it a few hours later, the postage charge might be used for the HQ delivery postage.

The odd thing is, for those schmucks that bought in at the higher pledge level and redeem it for the HQ offer, do we lose that extra money or did I read somewhere that we're still (ha!) getting the Tseuquest expansions? Cos that would be weird.

I agree A Space Crusade redux would be awesome, but 2 major issues arise regarding that.

1. Would it really be the same without the GW art, figs and fluff?

2. Would there be enough interest since Space Crusade was never released in the USA?

Well.

One has to assume it boils down to who owns the rights to what.

The models? Very likely GW.

The rules and that? It’s my understanding one can’t copyright rules - I accept I’m possibly misinformed.

The game title? Well. Who knows.

But if HQ starts making regular retail waves, I don’t see GW not flexing their IP and facilities to produce some form of the game we know as Space Crusade? The same for Hasbro really.

You are correct, you can't copyright rules, only the specific instantiation and wording of rules.

As to the title, IIRC Prodos already tried it and nobody sued.

A true crime against humanity!

But to be honest it would take a joint Hasbro-Gamesworkshop effort as the game's characters and setting is 40K itself.
