In the plausible scenario where these are undercosted and overeffective for what they bring and don't have enough meaningful counters, how many of you would politely refuse to play against lists and players that include them until GW fixes the pricing in about a year or so, as they've done before with the "new hotness" once they've sold enough?

Players that claim to like the models could just run them as regular Intercessors.

Obviously official events are a lost cause, but if enough people collectively said they weren't comfortable playing against people that exploited intentionally bad pricing by GW to make the usual rush for the new toys less appealing, would that make a meaningful difference in the toxic effect they'd have on gameplay?

Food for thought.

I think that GW would do their best to stamp that out. They want players to feel driven to buy the newest overpowered gak.

Considering we're estimated them to be 28 ppm, and a regular Intercessor is 20ppm, giving you no extra shots, +1T, and 1 extra wound per, and +1S and +6 relatively meaningless inches to shooting...

For a nearly 50% price increase, you're getting less than a 50% performance increase. I encourage anyone who wants to complain about that to tell as many of their opponents before hand as possible.

I recently got into warhammer 40k (4months or so) I picked marines as my army as I hadn't painted before and liked the look of Primaris marines so went ahead and picked up a dark imp box set and started away looking forwards to getting into a new hobby and perhaps meeting some new people in my area and playing some games and perhaps making a few friends

I'm not a power gamer so since running into the problem of marines being overtuned I have been making weaker lists that I could to keep it competitive. But still have had a game or two against salty people that all they did was complain about marines untill I conceded due to not wanting to sit through any tirades on a subject I have no control over I picked an army at random in a new hobby and they happen to be op.

What your suggesting is to disallow people that are interested in the same hobby as you from playing games with you just based on an army they have spent good money and hundreds of hours into getting assembled and painted.

Sure there will be some power gamers out there that make neigh unbeatable lists if so just avoid playing them in future but what your suggesting is blocking out a whole bunch of like minded people interested in a niche hobby that you also are because of something out of there control

We all like trying our best and thinking up army's that will be great and do good in a decent fun game and let me tell you it's no fun having to make lists for games with the intention of letting opponents win just to be able to play

Your essentially just saying let's stop people who picked up marines from playing the game because you don't want to lose. What happens when you're army's codex comes out you go to your local gaming club with an army you have made, painted put a lot of hours into only to have noone to play against due to something GW did.

On the subject I myself have stopped playing against non marines to avoid people that share your outlook and are just looking for a way to stop people doing something because of something they can't control....I'm sure you've never been left out or made to feel bad about something in your life that was behind your control so keep it up champ

The points cost etc on them may have a toxic effect on gameplay but people but blocking people out of our hobby will have a more toxic effect on a hobby we all love

To keep you happy tho just make anyone you play against only use basic troops with no upgrades and let you have T1 each time

it's worse, it's Talking about Boycotting a unit before we even know how many points it is,and assuming it HAS to be OP. even if heavy intercessors are pound for pound JUST as efficant as standard intercessors the mobility disadvantages will likely hobble them. you can't put them in impulsors and can only take 5 in a repulsor.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

as bad as this sounds, I think 12 year olds would find this level of whining excessive.

If the unit is that disagreeable to you(them) no one is forcing you to play anyone, but a fething boycott, lame.

"Won't someone think of the whales?"

To put it bluntly, why should Timmy Come Lately matter more than the literal rest of the hobby when he more or less knowingly chose to chase the meta as his debut? If someone chooses to play the Flavor of the Year, what makes that something to be coddled and enabled? It's good for GW's bottom line for someone to buy lots of the latest Primaris- screwing over everyone else in the process by drowning the release schedule in this crap- and use it to skew gameplay, but who else is a tidal wave of Gravis spammers actually good for? Certainly not hobby enjoyment for anyone but themselves.

If he loves the models so much, he can run them with vanilla Intercessor rules. After all, surely a newbie who just lovessssssssss the Primaris fluff and style so very much and whose decision making process had nothing to do with them being OP won't mind giving up that advantage, will they? If Chaos has been stuck with counts-as since forever, Primaris fans that want to bring units that happen to be nonsensically statted can do the same, surely.

If you have the basic decency to play for flavor rather than exploiting the advantage GW gave you at everyone else's expense, what do you want, applause?

If they're actually unbalanced, it'd be laudable to boycott them. A bit early to make that assessment, though.

In any case, better to just boycott GW altogether.

You're freaking out at something that isn't released and you don't know the points or full set of rules for. Do you want applause?

You do realise custodes are more resilient and are troops? Breachers have existed for years now with that T/W combo but with better guns. Or do you freak out about things with marine in the title just to try and win forums points from the cool kids?

To put it bluntly, yes, that is what the OP post is saying. If they end up being undercosted or even a wink and a nudge in terms of "accidental" underpricing like GW is fond of every so often, people that bring them are going to be a problem.

If they're overcosted, great. I'm sure that'll make all the people that love their fluff/look/insert excuse here evaporate like morning dew. If not, then they're a problem for everyone else.

I missed the part where I signed a paper saying I had to pretend that 40k was balanced.

Throwing a salt fit because people don't want to play with a broken ruleset is bootlicker behavior.

They will be less than that unless you think upgrades will be free

And btw 3rd wound is huge pretty much doubling survivability against most guns they need to face. That without factoring in toughness. Their durability goes up lot more than 50% while price goes up more like 25%

I'm not going to pretend that GW doesn't make armies overpowered, play favorites, and try to drive sales by making overpowered rules. "No you gotta play against my overpowered gak, my ego must be fed or I'm going to call you a bad person" is petulant narcissist behavior. If you had balls you'd want a fair game.

I don't really have an opinion on this individual unit, but I wouldn't be *surprised* if they're busted.

Basically the argument is that explicitly IF and WHEN the unit pricing turns out to be overly generous towards people that just so happen to buy the flavor of the month, is there an argument to be made by people that aren't GW apologists or whales themselves that the Gravis troops belong in games? Not that technically they're allowed- regrettably, GW has decided to peddle even more Primaris, so they are going to exist in some form. The question is if they SHOULD be in games where both players have a say in the matter before they're reluctantly rebalanced after the initial sales dry up a bit. This happens routinely and it's honestly cynically exploitative- strip mining the hobby.

Citing "GW rules" as if that means anything in itself is pointless- most good faith arguments will admit that GW balance has been less than perfect over the years and this whole discussion is about the scenario where the rules are even more broken than the norm in the favor of the whale bringing Gravis troops because he plays the right codex and paid the right money for his new toys.

In other words, why play against a whale in that scenario when by bringing Gravis troops they're violating the implicit rules of good sportsmanship? What makes a malicious gravis spammer's enjoyment more valuable than the rest of the hobby?

If you want to argue they should be able to use their models, they can counts-as Intercessors.

If you want to argue the poor dears didn't know better, somehow and blindly stumbled their way into buying an entire WAAC force of the latest flavor of the month in blissful ignorance, you can tell them the rules are broken and to wait for GW to fix them after the initial glut of sales, like they always do.

And btw 3rd wound is huge pretty much doubling survivability against most guns they need to face

I think they'll be base 28 vs Base 20. I think 8 out of 20 is almost a 50% price increase. I think the +1S is bigger than the +6" but even both together isn't getting you 50% more shooting power. I think they get 0% more fight power. I think a third wound is less than a third and fourth wound on a second body.

It's escalated from panicking to outright hostility towards any "gw apologists" using their "whale" status to buy abox of models. It's pathetic.

The fact that GW has moved to a whale-chasing model to a certain degree is inarguable; the fact that such a model makes for shittier games is also inarguable.

What makes a malicious gravis spammer's enjoyment more valuable than the rest of the hobby?

Maybe you should just take them out back and shoot them? If those mangy polecats aren't going to play the way you want them to do they even deserve to live?

Still they're not as bad as those Deathwing spammers who insist on doing all Terminators.
