Lance845 wrote: Except that again, Wakanda is a nation in Africa on this plane of existence. And K'un Lun is a extra-dimensional city that doesn't exist in Asia and doesn't have to be Asian. The thing that needs to change isn't Danny Rand's race (again, cast him as whoever would play the part best) it's K'un Lun's presentation. Like the Ancient One being a horrible stereotype and recasting him as a celtic her was a good choice the presentation of Kun Lun doesn't need to be an Chinese thing when it doesn't exist on Earth.
Wakanda, despite being embraced by the mainstream population, is a racist caricature of Africa derived from the idea of a mystical city in a jungle that fueled many colonial adventures. It is as detached from our reality is K'un-Lun. K'un-Lun, while being extradimensional in the Marvel Universe, is derived wholeheartedly from Chinese mythology. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kunlun_(mythology)#Modern_popular_culture Denying it's relationship to Asia, specifically China, is akin in my eyes to denying Mt. Olympus' mythological connection to Greece.
1) I don't agree with Wakanda being a racist caricature. It's afro futurism is a relatively modern pop culture thing (though still very niche) that traces it's roots to the early/mid 1990s. Again, the origins of black panther are not great. But the MCUs presentation is great because it presents it's material with respect.
2) Yeah but Olympus isn't IN Greece. Just like Asgard isn't in Norway. If Idris Alba can play Hiemdal, The White God: whos mythological origin says he has teeth of gold and skin like the purest ivory, then the mythical placement of the city of Kun Lun in the MCU has a equal racial basis in China. I.E. none.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.
Normally, I’m very happy to binge telly I enjoy. Yet, the majority of those now consist of an over arcing plot, and “one and done” refresher episodes. Something thrown into the mix to give us a breather.
The Netflix series? They’re absolutely well made, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise.
But......as others have said, they’re overly long. And none, to the best of my recollection, include any “one and done” palette refresher episodes. So we have to watch all of them to ensure we’ve got all the plot strands.
It’s not so bad on the first watch. But for repeat viewing, it’s a bit much.
But we’ll always have those glorious corridor fights! *TV suddenly bounces off my bonce, bringing this post to an end*
I've been binging a lot of anime recently and its pretty remarkable what a difference 30 min episodes make compared to a full hour. The longer hour long shows go, the more they breed up these secondary characters who spend 20 min+ off on tangent side stories that really drag down the pacing. I'm sure some of this comes down to logistics (actors and sets create extra film compared to animation which is expensive to produce) but I vastly prefer the pacing of the latter.
I think its has more to do with what shows you're specifically watching.
A huge amount of anime has tons filler secondary characters, tangent side-stories and entire filler arcs for their 30 (or 22) minute episodes. Some have feth all for a main plot (as much as I enjoyed Ranma, for example, it doesn't have a real plot. Its all side-tangents from beginning to end, and ends up just shrugging off anything resembling resolution).
Now it can really depend, as there are some shows that are tightly written 6 or 13 episodes that just get on with it, but there's still the Big Shows (older or modern) that are a couple hundred episodes of largely garbage characters and nonsense. The episode length isn't relevant here, and some of the shows that have shorter seasons also have longer episode lengths, with less tangents and better pacing. [A lot of OVAs were set up like this, with longer running time, but much tighter script/plot]
Any Jump adaptations get bogged down with filler; though even those have started to veer towards a seasonal release schedule that gives the manga more time to produce content. I think 26 episodes that are 22 minutes long still tend to be better paced than a dozen 48 min episodes though.
I found it interesting that Danny's rival to the Iron Fist was clearly SE Asian in Kun Lun. Plus, the IF series shows that Danny technically LOST to Davos, and instead was raised up for other reasons.
Plus, it seems like Iron Fist failed and Kun Lun was destroyed anyway, so..... not much of a white savior then...... more like a white failure.

From what I Remember, The Father didnt want his Son to die, so he had to call it cause either
1: Danny would kill him
2: He would kill Danny and Then the Dragon would kill him
3: The Hand would eventually kill him.
Danny was prepared for the physical part of the IF, but not the actual part or Duties.
If i was to hazard a guess, S3 was going to be him about him actually earning the title IF.
I did like IF, but i knew i had faults.
After struggling to get through S1 of Iron Fist I couldn't make it through Defenders. When it became clear that "nothing was connected" to the MCU I checked out.
Yeah the shows are only connected very loosly, with only refrences i think in all of them being in the first few episodes of Daredevil.
The shows started to become disconnected because they where not told anything about the way the MCU was going to work or go forward.
Agents of Shield did at first, but then kinda defaulted into "Ehh, it could be connected" kinda BS. To the point where it has time travel, but their time travel is different from Endgames.
While im sure other reasons existed, we didnt get S3 of IF and LC because of the direction of the MCU with the half of people getting dusted and 5 year time skip.
For as fun as the MCU has been, they've cast a bunch of stuff by the wayside as they've gone. It really annoyed me with the Netflix shows how Shield never showed up to check out any of these super powered people.
It's the problem with creating an ongoing series with a episode count to fill in with a weekly schedule. Agents of shield should have never existed as a standard show.

The Marvel Netflix shows had a different, "street level" feel to their story lines. The stakes were not earth shattering, they were very personal to the characters.
I think early DD referenced the Battle of New York a few times, and that was about it. They referenced events in each other more than the bigger MCU.

It was mentioned a few times when the series started but as the Netlix Marvel universe went on it seemed to vacillate between being part of the MCU and being its own thing.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.
Edit: I guess I will always be left wanting for Luke Cage S3 when Kingpin tries to move in on the new Godfather of Harlem's (Luke Cage) new turf. That sounds like a really good plotline for Defenders team-up II.

I'd like them to bring Luke Cage back in some format. He's one of the more interesting characters that they've brought into film or movies and one of the less elitist. Thor, Black Panther, and Iron Man are fun, but they're all entitled men born into either wealth and/or royalty.
The characters that come from more humble backgrounds interest me more. To quote Captain America: The First Avenger: "A weak man knows the value of strength."
The only way we can ever solve anything is to look in the mirror and find no enemy
I am sure all 4 characters will return at some point. But I think Luke, Jessica Jones, and Danny Rand are all going to be on hold until they feel comfortable doing another Iron Fist. Luke Cage and Iron fist go hand in hand with heroes for hire and JJ is Lukes love interest.

Seriously though, the first couple seasons of Arrow are pretty solid network fare IMO. But the more it because a '-verse', the cheesier things got. 'Legends of Tomorrow' reminded me of its '70s semi-namesake in all of the worst ways.
Legends is Insanely fun once to get to like, s3.
S4 where they hunt a buncha monsters is great.
Once it stops being a place they put side characters from the other shows and start doing its own thing, it gets better.
That said, these shows should not be judged like netflix shows IMO, they are different in terms of how thet work and are written due to one airing on a streaming service that allows episodes to be any length and pacing due to no Ad breaks compared to a show airing on cable that has to hook people to come in every week.

Still head canoning there's a deleted scene not dissimilar to the Wolverine one from First Class involving Jessica and Fitz/Simmons

That's a time investment I'm not willing to make. No sirree.
Skip to it! The best part about legends is that you are under no obligation to watch the whole show. I enjoyed the first season because it was like a weird superpowered successor to Prison Break, purely from the actors. But there was no connection between season 1 and 2 that I could find, and I doubt that's changed.
Casablanka would be totally worth the price of admission to see Blanka trying to keep a low profile in a trenchcoat and fedora.

Black Lightning is as good or better than any of the Netflix Marvel shows (IMO)

Yeah. Black Lightning is the one I didn't even watch through the whole season. I liked the actors and the family dynamic of BL as a retired hero turned family man was interesting, except it quickly became a nothing-burger plot point and the next few episodes were equally dull and burned away the potential of other characters with no real build up.
