If you want something different try Wargames Atlantic or Mantic skeletons, and Fireforge or Mantic zombies.

Vampire Counts do not have access to liches post 5th, but necromancer armies are very viable.
You could use lich models with necromancer rules, necromancers are functionally undead so it would not make any difference if a necromancer crossed the line. Many are degenerate enough they might not notice until after it has happened.

I mean i can see why the complaints about them beeing fidly AF are there. those separate legs without real armor don't... well don't entice me, on the other hand i have done much worse then reposing some skellies and i quite like the new soulblight models.
As for the lich theme, it was mostly me wondering if i could avoid Vampires in it's entirety, i do have no issue with the necromnacers and can probably quite easily convert some into the more fitting bone horde theme...

Most modern GW kits are very monopose. If you go check the sprue on the GW website you can see the legs of the skellies are all one piece and their legs are spread out basically completely filling a 25mm base.

I'm sure with some creative basing you can make it work but it wont be all that simple given as they were designed for 25mm not the standard 20mm of Fantasy.

Not sure if anyone has tried yet, but maybe the skellies will fit diagonally? It'll limit the regiment a bit but it might be doable...

My kitbashing eye says no, not feasable really.

Altough in hindsight someone brought up Wargames atlantic skellies, whilest i like the greek theme i find the Wargames one to be a bit... underarmored, does anyone know any other Skelletons that fit that theme?

Well, i did dig up my old chaos warrior army now...
Seems like i miss 451 pts to have a full 2000 pts army.
Also half a exalted champion is only half an exalted champion

If anyone has any ideas for a simple scheme feel free to recommend.

Are the new Skellies really that monopose?

See for yourself:

I suspect there is some give in the designs because the waist is buried under armour so you can likely swap over torsos and legs. That does not appear to be intntional by looking at the completed modersl below but it can be done What you get are arm swaps and some head swaps but yes, mostly monopose. However monopose isn't the problem here.

I found the 8th ed skeletons to be fairly sturdy so long as you glue them solidly. Mine have held up.

Diagonal fitting soldiers is so very 4th/5th edition and it was bad.

This is the problem:

Those are 25mm round bases, most legs will not actually fit on a 20x20, diagonal placing or not. They take up as much room as orcs or chaos warriors.

I do like the models but if I buy any it will be for my RPG collection. They may do fine on a 5' grid, but then again their weapons go everywhere and might interfere with the dungeon tiles. There is a lot going for MNantic and WHFB miniatures for role playing, and with some slender exception most AoS stuff doesnt properly fit for Warhammer. For characters I dont mind that so much, but for rank and file it is a problem.

If it ain't broke....

Jup i agree, that's a snazy bunch of elves there.

Meanwhile i attempt to paint my 10 year of dusted Chaos warriors...

I also rock nowadays only half a exalted champion of khorne .. really need to order that Chaos knight kit to turn him into a standard bearer.

Yeah those Metal seaguard are awesome!

Managed to get these Ogres off my paint table. Dogs of War to go with my old Empire army. It gave me an idea to put together some Dog of War regiments. I have a box of Bretonnian Knights I can use as mercenaries, almost 40 Old Empire spears I can convert to Pikemen (once I find decent 3rd party pikes) as well as a Hot Pot I can also just use as a Mortar.

That all may have to wait though. As summers here and I like to spend my evening outside and not hunched over a paint table.

Very nicely done Polonius. The green is really starting to grow on me as a color for High Elves. But I tend to like the standard colors for High elves like blue, red, and green anyways. Purple is another if done right.

Not liking em.
I probably will go with ogres, since i have a somewhat cool concept and backstory in mind for a separate ogre army, and chaos ogres still are "fast" and can hit like a ton of bricks.

For a birthday gift, my father got me a regiment of Slayers from Black Tree Design. Here is the first of them. These are good sculpts for what you get. They're a bit more barbarian-esque than the GW or Avatars of War Slayers, with details like skull masks and stuff made from bones. Weapons are more varied than the archetypal axes. You've got battle-axes like this guy, maces, flails, and even a sword on the standard bearer.

For those interested in scale, here's one with an Oathmark dwarf.

EDIT:

Here's my first full rank of Slayers.
