Tip: if you paint only using washes* you can cut more corners and achieve better results than only applying base colors. win-win situation.

Albinos, eh?

Absolutely. Barring the Stormvermin and Grey Seer who have lore fur colors, the entire army will be albino. And I'll have a nervous twitch after painting that much white...

Taking a look at your first unit. I think you need Army Painter Soft Tone.
Albino or not, these ratties are way too clean. Also the teeth.

My plan is to ink/wash them later at my leisure, as what little time I have to paint is geared towards our goal of having every army for WFB 6th and having it fully painted.

Also, notice the bases. Goblin Green and flock. That's pretty much the mindset of my entire painting ambition.

To be fair, we did try an experiment. We went to town on one of our High Elf regiments, Gradation shading, ink, the works. I checked the army book after we were done and found that not a single stat line had changed. Did you know there's no +1 LD for stippling? Odd...

Rim & flock is not a cop out, it is a decent tidy solution and was a staple for good reason. I changed from Goblin Green and flock to Desert Yellow (army painter) and flock, with variation only for characters, as it is the theme I use for my Realm of Battle boards and the brown serves as my base for non flocked areas.
I believe that oftimes less is more, and in the case of basing there are several advantages to a minimalist base no matter how much effort you place on the paintjob.

Not seen painting for advantage since the late 80's. So oldhammer you are trying to resurrect old sins even GW moved past. tut tut.

It would appear you missed the satire...

I paint my models so you can tell what they are, not because of some enriching feeling of having painted models. I saw two stealth Marine armies face off once, and it was comical once H2H started happening. I don't paint to show off skills that I frankly don't see as useful even if I DID have them. My painting exists solely because of the gaming is what I'm trying to say.

You missed mine.

Painting for advantage is all but impossible now. I cannot see any means by this it can work. Painting <insert army> bright pink will not give them a fabulous save.
Painting for advantage was a part of the game in the distant past back in the days of 2nd and 3rd edition when units had common statlines and you could upgrade most, but not all units to elite. Back in the day WYSIWYG was very important as there were very thin covers for army books and exact equipment on model was more relevant as it was the defining characteristic. Armies had their own fluff and background but the distinction between normal and elite troops was defined in the army list. So knights and halberdiers were knights and halberdiers, but either unit could be elite. You had to follow WYSIWYG on equipment, so wargear had to be depicted and painted the proper colour, so metal armour couldn't be painted leather brown. But beyond that and the need to clearly document everything you didnt have to reveal more than what the opponent could see. You had to point out characters, but not explain what they were.
So here is where painting to advantage came in, for tournaments several players would give regular troops full livery, colourful banner etc, while the units with all the elite bonuses would have a tatty banner and plain dirty wool or leather surcoats and rustier mail. Some players went as far as to use a lower quality paintjob. It would take contact with 'cheap militia' to find that they had a potent magical banner, many elite abilities and their unit 'Champion' was in fact a Major Hero.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I made the rules for the campaign myself, including rules for all special characters ( Eltharion, Grom and Blacktoof) so it was no problem, even if it's not in the core rules.

Things I'm working on for WHFB/Old World:

1. I have the Kruleboyz from the latest AoS box, and I want to build an army around their aesthetic. Sticking to 6/7E, not really optimising for tactics. Will run the Hobgrots as either garden variety gobbos or Hill Goblins to jack up points cost and bring down model count. I'm Likely to 3D print a batch of river trolls from Emang's Total Warhammer rips. Definitely going to use the troll with an orc on it for a giant.

2. High Elves. Likely not going GW with the models, as there's someone who does High Elves exclusively on MMF and Iike the cut of their jib. Haven't thought about this too much yet, I just know I want elves.

3. Warmaster. It's really achievable in terms of modelling with lots of support from the 3D printing crowd. I'll play this game double fisted if I have to, I've been itching to try a smaller scale fantasy game for ages.

4. My Dwarfs, they comin along:

Oh why thanks a lot for the kind words!

That 15 minutes with proper light and scenery at our gaming club really payed off it seems, great models from GW altogether.

Unfortunately, only the Dark Elves have seen action so far in a small tournament in October.

But I plan to get on with my Waagh!! Grom Campaign, so Ol'Blacktooth and Eltharion can cross swords/magic boomsticks

This weekend, we will play out the Battle at the River KweiƟ, where 2500 points of O&G are trying to get on/over a bridge to reach Grom's main force, but the Empire has deployed an army of at least equal strength to prevent them from doing so.
Army list must contain at least 1000 points core, max. 0-1 Lord, 0-4 character models in total, 0-4 special, 0-2 rare choices.

I have lost my previous matches in the campaign, so the Empire player has some advantages. He has 3 support points, which he can use to

a) change one of the rare, special or hero slots to another one of these (for example 3 special 2 rare, and 4 hero slots or something similar ('Cost: 1 point)
b) buy an additional rare, special or hero slot (for 2 points)
c) add 175 points to the army's point limit (2 points)

Spent the last few months only working on Terrain so I decided I needed to get back into the groove of mini painting by finishing off a model I have had sitting primed on my desk since 7th Edition.

Figured I'd finally paint my Arch Lector as I love this model and really have no excuse for not painting it other than laziness.
