So, not as productive an Orktober as I had initially dreamed of (work sux (it doesn't really, I'm very lucky, but it has been very full on)), but, I managed to finish a whole something, at least, so that's cool! Can cross this old 4-ork booster off the to-do list!
Also! Gork (or Mork)'s teeth! A new army? Again? Mcbogus, isn't the first step admitting you have a problem???
Back in I think spring sometime, I spied a few really great deals on Mercari, and decided to pounce. I don't think I even have a full kill team (I've got two more orks on the workbench), but man, as someone who dreamed of being able to do orks, of being able to do them paint-y justice like I saw in my head, this feels great. I set myself a bunch of challenges with orks, to make each one as unique as possible, and standing back and looking at all four, finished like this? I'm pretty pleased with the result. Ever since I got into the hobby, I've wanted to do orks, so to have this lil baby waaagh, all of my very own, feels great.
love the olive skin tone of the first few the most. very nice
Check out my gallery here Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Thanks! Haha, I couldn't decide which green was the orkiest, so I decided to go with a whole bunch of different tones. But in my headcannon, because a Waaaagh draws orks from all over the galaxy, it would make sense that some of them would look a little different from each other! A fun step, maybe, but if it ever comes to making a proper army, it might end up making everything much slower
Cheers very much! The first few minis of a project are always a bit nerve-wracking, but I'm glad they came out okay. Thanks for the kind words, I'm a big fan!
Gork (or Mork)'s teeth! My gitz only gone and got famous on the internet!
Really pleased that I got noticed by GW, even if it is just a trifling thing. I got a bit experimental with these guys, and pushed myself out of a few comfort zones, especially regarding the cloth and the amount of gore, and to hear such kind words from not just pros, but GW pros to boot was a really proud moment for me.
(Dear Peachy, yes, you're right, you did murder the username )
I've always been nervous about painting orks - so much flesh, cloth, weathering. I always wanted to grab some when I'm started, but always held off. To try out, and get such a great response is maximum warm fuzzies. Looking forward to finishing off my last 2 ork minis soon!
Spoilered because rant, disregard, being a pissbaby (but not about GW for once! Someone buy a lottery ticket!)
Spoiler:
Made that hobby insta a while back, kinda just to practice my 日本語 and see if I could make contact with any Japanese-language warhammer community online, partly because, like, not gonna lie, feeling a bit burned out on Dakka lately, and I'm toying with taking my main hobby internet presence somewhere else. I wanna say that I really love this site - there are a whole bunch of people who clearly dedicate a lot of time to knowing the rules really well - to the point that I can ask about "Space Wolves but no primaris marines or even any wolves" and still get tons of responses, all of them interesting and thoughtful. The P&M section is always full of positivity, and it helps that there are some real talents here. There's a nice mix of grognards who know how stuff used to work, how minis used to look etc. but also it seems like enough new blood, too. I really have wasted some excellent hours on Dakka, with some great people, and I wanna thank you all, including the mods, who have even given me bits of models, even though I'm an idiot who sometimes enjoys getting into internet fights more than I should. But idk, I'm also feeling kinda tired and frustrated.
Anyone had any joy with twitter?
I kinda just like posting pictures of my lil dudes, and talking about how to paint little dudes. I like some of the discourse around tactics and strategy, following releases and speculation about future directions and fluff and stuff, and boy oh boy do I like a bit of shitposting, but it feels like ever since Corona got big (understandably, really), a lot of the behaviors on this forum have gotten worse.
There are more price hikes, and like, fairly sus behavior from GW on a bunch of fronts, 9th was released, and the rules are crap, space marines keep getting too much stuff, whiteknights and black knights are everywhere, just gaking everything up with arguments and counter-arguments that are often at best tangentially related to posts in question, or even to the point they're re-buffing. We can't really talk about tactics right now, beyond marines and necrons, because the rest of the rules are a total fist, so even speculating about building a new army isn't really plausible. IDK, maybe it's just because the game is in a crappy state, and 2020 has been a crappy year, but I'm starting to feel a bit like I just want to live in a cave and paint toys when it comes to hobby stuff these days.
I decided to paint up a whole box, and then post them, rather than upload one at a time as I finished each mini, because I decided I wanted a break, and also it was my 666th post, and also Orktober. It was fun. I like putting my pictures here. Idk.
How do, Dakka? Due to a whole bunch of crazy stuff going on, I haven't been online a whole bunch.
I've managed to squeeze in some painting between the madness, however. Got this beautiful metal albatross off from around my neck, feels pretty good.
I went a bit mad with this one. Decided to do gecko-like eyes (after much eye research. Man, lizards are wacky-looking lil dudes), and, because this was originally a flash git, but I wanted to use him as a nob in Kill Team (a year ago - I didn't have any nobs, he was cheap and I think he looks big and mean enough), I decided to try and make the bandana less space-pirate-y, and more just good ol' fashioned war-y.
At the time I had been watching a TON of Vietnam-era films and documentaries, on the back of Ken Burns' 18-hour MASTERPIECE. For whatever reason, I decided a South Vietnam-style tiger stripe bandana would work, and I quite like how it came out. I want to keep throwing camo into my orks, even if it is a bit grueling hahaha
A late-night final flourish was messing about with trying to make a quick blue glow effect. I think I'm nearly there with it now, having tinkered with this effect across a number of minis, and feel like my recipe is near perfection. I was inspired by all the esoteric kinds of ammo he was carrying. A big double barrel shotgun almost feels out of place with Orks, who broadly prefer a high rate of fire, but it started to make me imagine him as slightly smarter ork, who got more satisfaction from one, single, huge boom over the sound of rattling, incessant fire. To that end, the different kinds of ammo felt like they made sense, as he collected new trinkets to blow apart his foes, from shotgun shells, to the 40 mike mike looking solid slugs, all the way around to the mini rockets and this odd glowing thing (I like to imagine it as some horribly unstable plasma grenade that he's saving for just the right occasion... or maybe git? Between the camo, the unusual gun, and his little toothy companion, I feel like he's probably much smarter than he lets on to the boss, and grimly corals his mob of boys to get the mission done, just so he can go back home, to skulking around corners the boss might pass by with that big boomstick of his. Kunninly brutal? Brutally kunnin? He doesn't think about that one too much, much more pressing matters at hand.
Anyway, he's with his gits now, and eagerly awaiting the big boss wading in, and maybe a few more reinforcements (better not be gretchin. The boss always sends gretchin when things are getting really tight...)
Hope you enjoyed a trademark McBogus disjointed ramble! Thanks for dropping by and looking!
Automatically Appended Next Post: ahh goddamnit they're sideways again. I can't fix this right now. Sorry if your necks hurt.

Fantastic work on these orks. I’ve said it before that carefully building and painting each troop as a unique individual is no way to build a horde army, but that’s what I do too since the GW ork sculpts definitely have enough character to justify it. It perhaps makes more sense at the Kill Team scale. Nice job on the flash git but I wish I hadn’t seen him because I had forgotten about that one and now there’s another old school mini I’m going to have to troll ebay for. Keep the posts coming and great work!
Thanks so much! Hopefully I'll be able to edit the post and flip them around someday!

Oh, absolutely, Orks are a total damocles sword - I fell in love with the army for the unique style and individuality of the troops, and dream of charging across the universe astride a great green tide, but...
...when it comes to painting, it's the slowest way of doing the army ahaha.
Still, the minis are expensive enough, so I might as well make them look as good as I can.
Good luck on your search! If he made his way out to Japan, then I'm sure he can't be all that rare!
