If it’s a Warhammer Store, it’s a yes whenever it reopens, you’ll be able to claim any coins you might’ve missed out on during lockdown.

Unsure if you’d have to make multiple qualifying spends.

No, GW, I'm not going to put my elderly parents' lives at risk by coming to your store in person just for the chance of a free witch elf. Bugger off.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

It's also a bit of a dick move from GW torwards what should be the epicenter of the community, the FLGS, atleast over here.
But then again maybee they percived it as a good opportunity to cut out the middleman?

Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"

The new lockdown was announced, what, last week? GW aren't casting up a bunch of coins, planning a "free miniature" scheme and churning out the relevant packaging for their ten paint deal between then and now. They weren't planning this for lockdown. It was an initiative that they evidently had on the cards prior, and have now had to make contingencies around the new lockdown in order to deliver it.

I'm not defending them, I'm not really interested in any of it, but let's be logical about it at least.

Unlikely.

It costs GW more to sell through their own stores, than FLGS, due to the dramatic increase in overheads.

100% you’d need to buy three lots of £60 to get three coins if let’s say they didn’t open till Jan.
They wouldn’t give you all three for one £60 spend.

Well, I've fancied painting a Witch Elf just for fun, and to see how it would look. Now I can do this without having to buy a whole box. I just have to wait for the shop to reopen. I would have been going in then to collect my White Dwarf anyway, so no extra effort involved

I think this might be a very good gateway into getting new peple in.

A free mini for somebody that doesn't know its value seems like a good hook.. I'm going to try get my friend to come with me so that he gets a mini and I get a mini and then rob him as "well youi dont really need this do you???" mauahahha"

10 Paints and a brush is going to be about £35 and you get a free mini to paint plus more minins the next month so for someone very conservative about starting new hobbies its very low investment with the knowledge that they can get a monthly supply of plastic crack.

Its not quite as good as the starter sets though.. Do they still do them ?

Overall I think its very smart on their part.
The GW marketing goblins seem like wizards on occasion.

Maybe they will bring back the bits boxes days... (who am I kidding)

GW see people are actually exited to get pointless token stuff like themed dice, and make these coins to really see how far they can push it.

At least they are free, kind of.

I bet they resize the coins soon enough, and make the collectors re-buy the old ones in correct size (and also a new collectors case because the coins dont fit any more)

Dont worry, Im not ragebitter, just joking around.

Yep. The 40k Paints + Tools Set is £27.50 for 13 paints, Brush, Clippers & Mouldline Scraper. The Necrons & Marines boxes are £22.50 for 3 push fit models, 6 paints, and 1 brush. The AoS Paints + Tools Set is £25 for 13 paints, Brush, Clippers & Mouldline Scraper. The Stormcast & Nighthaunt boxes are £20 for 3 or 4 push fit models, 6 paints, and 1 brush.

Sure, they’ll put a free mini In your hand, but you have to pay for the antidote.

First they alienated people of a certain political persuasion by telling them they would not be missed. Then they alienated everyone of the other political persuasion with a pandemic-risky promotion.

You can’t score record breaking case numbers every week with responsibly-closed businesses. Things are bad enough in the places where stores are open.

Is it necessary to clarify that my "bugger off" was intended to be at least a little bit light-hearted? I'm pretty damn cynical towards GW corporate, but I don't seriously believe they're actively trying to murder my parents. It's just deeply unfortunate timing.

Fact remains, though, that whether my local GW is open or not, I won't be going in there until there's a vaccine. We are currently getting food and other essential supplies delivered in a contact-free manner. But I realise that most people aren't in my situation (sole carer for two elderly people with comorbidities) and don't need to be as cautious as I am.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

Yes, because if you think about it you'll realise that just buying 10 paints from any company that does 10% or greater discount works out just about identical and is way more flexible, and that buying a box of 10 or minis at same discount means you've got a free mini that you actually wanted Vs paying RRP and getting a random Witch Elf.

Denouncing racism is not about political views. It is about supporting basic human rights.

I've been told that GW stores can now take payments over the phone. It might be possible to call your local up (once its open again) and place an order through them. They might be able to have the order sent to your home, but at the same time put aside any rewards you qualify for for when you can safely enter the store or at least call by.

There’s no way a guy running a One Man Store is gonna take mail orders, pack them up and take them to the post office. Simply not gonna happen. You want store stuff? You go to the store. It’s the whole point... driving footfall to keep stores open and their staff employed.

Overread is likely referring to the GW stores actually being able to take an order over the phone and then place it for you via the webstore.

Yes, but the freebies will physically be in the store. The webstore won’t have them to put into the order. Doesn’t matter what the order counts as, it matters that the freebie product is only in the store’s themselves.
