So I had my 1st game of 9th with a buddy (1st time 9th for both of us) and we decided to play for fun. Since this is the age of Indomitus, we decided to theme our armies after it. I went with a Adeptus Custodes force and he went with a 1K Sons.

Just for fun, I decided to run Gulliman with the AC. Now what I wasn't sure of, if this canceled the effect of the +1 to the AC's invulnerable save if you are battle forged.

Was this Battle Forged?

Assuming you weren't running a Superheavy Detachment of Custodes with Guilliman in it (which would not be legal in matched play as they don't share any non-IMPERIUM faction keyword), Guilliman would have had to have been in his own detachment of ULTRAMARINES (presumably a SHAD). So Guilliman would not be in the AC detachment, thus not affect their detachment trait.

Detachment traits are on a per-detachment basis, not an army wide basis. SM, SoB, and Necrons do have pure army bonuses (and so will every future codex most likely) as well as pure detachment bonuses, but AC don't have such a bonus.

Instead of a SHAD, you could use a Supreme Command. He is a Primarch.
