Haven't played in a long while. Thinking of finally putting my Dark Angels together. If I do want to game will the new supplemental codex be enough or do I need the Space Marine codex as well. If so, why? How does the Space Wolf and Blood Angels supplemental codices work?

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

You'll need both I would assume looking at the Deathwatch and Space Wolves releases.

40k: Space Marines (Rift Wardens) - 8050pts.
T9A: Vampire Covenants 2060pts.

Welcome back! You will need the Space Marines Codex and the Dark Angels Supplement to play. The Supplement will have the unique units and stratagems, but you will need the main Codex for the rest. It’s a change from the last few editions.

All you have to do is fire three rounds a minute, and stand

No it wouldn't be enough. You could however play DA with just the codex, you would miss out on most of the specific stuff though.

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

Notably, the DA supplement is not out until likely January, any DA book out there now is the old and basically outdated one. Buy the latest space marine book, which has the basic DA army specific rules at least, and then add the supplement when it comes out.

Right now, there is a full index online with the FAQs that is supposed to be used for DA until the supplement comes out. Yes, you will want the Space marine codex as it has access to about 75% of the units you will be using.

I don't think you can play at all with only the supplement, the codex is mandatory.

To play Dark Angels, you need Codex: Space Marines (2020) and Index Astartes: Dark Angels from the FAQ page. Once the Dark Angels supplement is released you'll need the supplement instead of Index Astrartes.

Well techically you could play with just da specific units. Would suck balls and miss chapter bonus but technically doable. Belial leading deathwing knights and ravenwing units should get you to 2k.

Good luck winning a game though

No, there's a lot of rules, keywords, weapons and general stuff like Angels of Death, Chapter Master, Frag/Krak Grenades, etc that are not described in the supplement. Even the specific datasheets from the supplement have tons of references to the general codex.

The codex is mandatory.

Thank you everyone. Dang, I was hopping we were not going back to having more than one book to carry.

It seems book bloat is a thing again.

Alright, time up to save. Just sucks, just lost my job too covid. At least now I have time to put my minis together and start painting the back log.

I hope everyone is well. Best to you all and again, thank you for your replies.
